This is just the PSP from over 12 years ago, but updated. Jesus christ it failed 12 years ago for sony, what makes them think this is any different?. Nothing about this looks promising at all. Sorry. The psp was a novetly 12 years ago. What makes Nintendo think anybody wants to lug around a relatively big console around on the tube, bus or anywhere again like they did with the PSP?
You have no idea how wrong you are. Just wait until the sales numbers..
I know this is Nintendo, but it really seems like the idea for this came from nowhere. I don't see it doing anything innovative, and there doesn't seem to be a market clamoring for such a device. Its only advantage seems to be mobility, but that puts it in direct competition with phones, and phones have far more utility. I just can't see much of a future for the Switch.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
I watched this entire segment last night. And from the two products demonstrated, I think Nintendo's decision to release mobile games on iOS and Android will end up being far more profitable for the company than the Nintendo Switch. I don't see a bright future for the Switch.
This is why I don't understand why we can't have a gaming device that's also a cell phone. I don't want to have a portable gaming device and my phone. Its going to take a progressive thinker which will make an improved device every year just like other phones. Having that being able to dock and use a control would be so much better than trying to make this type of gaming system.
Super looking forward to the switch. I'm pretty much exclusively going to play it in tablet mode, even though I would very rarely take it out of my house. I wonder if there are many people like me...
Kind of a smart play from Nintendo with this. They didn't want to go after PS and Xbox on power so they decided to go with mobility instead. PS and Xbox are both fighting over who can pretend to give people 4k on console while neither of them actually do. Most gamers in Asia tend to use smartphones or go to internet cafes still. Here in the U.S. it might not seem like mobility is as important, but I don't think it will hurt. Some people may never take the thing out of the dock, but so what. They will sell plenty of them just out of nostalgia for the old Nintendo games that you can't play anywhere else. If it really is only 250$ then that also makes it the cheapest of the consoles too.
I can see why people are not seeing the point of the Nintendo Switch being sort of a tablet, but I think the Switch is a great idea. Gaming is more or less part of mainstream culture nowadays and everyone is playing on their phones or tablet, there is definitely a market for this kind of product. What's more is that there is a desire among a subset of the gaming community to get together in real-life to play games as we've seen with Pokemon Go for example, which turned into group activities for many people of all ages. I think Nintendo views the Switch has sort of an extension to that kind of thinking.
Phones have too many limitations in terms of gaming opportunities so there is a need for something "stronger" and the Switch is exactly that. Add in the usual great Nintendo titles to draw in gamers of all ages plus the ability to play with a second player on the go and you've got a pretty interesting mix that can cater to a wide variety of lifestyles and gaming tastes.
The family console appeal is there in spades and it looks like thats what they are going for.
Actually I don't think Nintendo is going for a "family console" appeal this time, or at the very least not the same way they previously did with their past consoles. Probably the most surprising part to me from the Nintendo Switch trailer that was released when the console was announced, was the complete lack of any family. The people in the video were largely all young adults 18-26yo getting together to play games as friends or people alone in their home or plane playing the games.
Damn this is exciting MMO news!!!!! The forum is rocking today with new MMO topics. I just learned about the Intel 6700k MMO and that the PS4 MMO beat out the Xbox One MMO for november sales. Craziness!!!
While we are concerned about all the attachments and their lifespan, our entire house is excited for this one. Glad Nintendo is finally stepping up a bit with graphics.
Jimmy Fallon's pure excitement was fun to watch. I was right there with him feeling like a kid again.
Happily playing Vanilla and BC WoW, again, since September 2016.
