Its quite possible some of them have. Some of us here have been monkeying around with the MMORPG industry, as part of the creative process or as customers for as long as the fucking genre existed. I'm sorry if we feel like we know our ass from a hole in the ground having watched the industry grow from its infancy to what it has become today.
Being "part of the creative process or as customers" provides 0 qualification on business related matters. Same as false thinking that being a player makes one somewhat qualified to become a game designer.

    It's called self-entitlement...
This clueless attitude is exactly the reason the gaming industry landscape, the MMORPG landscape in particular, is littered with the bleaching bones of failed games. I mean oh sure what could these people possible know? They're just gamers right? Not people who outside their chosen hobby have actual professions or job skills. I find it highly hilarious how many times we've seen these sneering echo chamber fools pampered blind by their own arrogance go from "The customers are morons, don't listen to the customers" to "What the fuck!? Where did all our customers go!? How could this disaster have happened!?"

That's fine though, go ahead and stay blind, people in the gaming industry, we'll just keep queuing up to dance on your graves.
He's not saying you're wrong because you're just gamers. He saying you are assuming you have far more understanding of a situation than you really have.

Sometimes I wonder what would've happened if they really cleaned up Dust and made it mutliplatform. The interconnected system seemed like a great way to get people into EVE without necessarily getting people into EVE. It might've done some good for both games.
Yeah it wasn't a bad game, it just didn't have a robust audience at any point on PS3. Plus the control scheme would have been much better with M+KB.

If you really think "software management" is more of an issue than natural attrition, retention, acquisition, and the historic life-cycle of an MMORPG, then maybe you should take your own advice. I don't know if self-entilement is at play here or not, but there's certainly a bad case of Dunning-Krugeritis plaguing this thread.
What do you call many failed projects, as well as a failure to be successful with anything but EVE; not to mention a failure to create a decent revenue stream in order to stay in business... other than bad management?

I've been saying since Dust 514 launched that it should have been incorporated with Eve.
They would have doubled their player base easily.

    Sandbox+FPS+Strategy+Space Simulation.....what's not to like?

I call it a weird assessment based off false data, but you've always been very clear that no amount of truth or counterpoints will sway you. I mean, you write this the day after the release of the third expansion for Valkyrie.

Are you saying a VR game is going to carry them forward? It's another limited install endeavor not unlike Dust, a successful limited product does not make for a successful company. Kingdoms of Amular was a very successful game, yet did nothing for the company that made it. And that wasn't even a limited product like a VR game.   Just looks like more bad management to me.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

I was in beta for this game, have a toon I created in 2004 named Blessings. Anyways... as soon as I heard they were going ftp I knew they were done. Besides that, this game came out in 2003, it's almost 14 years old. It never had WoW numbers, but did well for them. I think they should have focused on making a newer version space-based MMO, for PC, PS4 and XB1 with amazing graphics and a great single and multiplayer aspect. Unfortunately, they didn't... and instead got involved with other projects (including VR, which I still think we're not quite where that needs to be to blow up yet) so they might be done. Star Citizen is trying to fill the void somewhat, but they are not going console either, so it will only get so far. FFXIV, Neverwinter and ESO are some MMO's that decided to be multi-platform and it's working out well for them. EvE was good while it lasted, I suppose. And if EA buys them out, you can totally kiss this game goodbye. They have the opposite of the Midas touch, ask some old E&B players.

I have waited for this moment for many years.

They had a great opportunity , being the only real space RPG game out there. Their stoic insistence on 100% PVP or go away has finally caught up with them.

Can't wait to see them close up that game.
    @ominator

It isn't the only real space RPG.

Let's also remember that this is just a rumor.
