Project GORGON soon released on steam by former AC1/2 developer CITAN. Already spoken with AC2 players who probably gonne try out STEAM early access which launch in next few days
Hope to build full AMD system RYZEN/VEGA/AM4!!!

Very sad and even worse they are going back on their word to give the game assets to the players to make having our own servers easier to achieve. I am very glad I have Project Gorgon to soften the blow.
You sure its not simply a case of no one coming forward to volunteer to run a player server - and ultimately make sure it is funded?
Yup, they came out saying we know we said we would but we can't. ☹️
OK. Never saw an update on the forums is all - just the stuff about technical issues and then .... silence.
You all just said it was reddit generated topic. Didn't believe me. Now I can say I told you so. So far, all my predictions are coming true. LOTRO/DDO get sold to an investment company, probably won't last more than 2 years, I give it a year at most. Asheron's Call is first to go (however didn't know it was going to be THAT fast).
Next on the burner is LOTRO/DDO going into maintenance mode (DDO will likely fall first between the two, it isn't nearly as popular), Everquest license either gets sold or just shut down, along with all of the other Daybreak titles. LOTRO makes sense to not last more than 2 years at most, because they can't go anywhere after Mordor. If the game licenses (like EQ) are sold, probably to a junk company like Perfect World Entertainment. Very unlikely to be a good company. More likely at least some of Daybreak games won't go anywhere but to the MMO afterlife. An investment company doesn't care, just want the most money they can get.
Geez, stop trying to be a grinch. A savant you are not!
I landed in Holtburg on Solclaim in Oct of 2001. It was my intro into online games, and I felt right away that this was home. And it was for many years. Thank you Turbine, the Solclaim community, my guild Strife, my Patron "My Angel", and all the friends I met along the way.
Wow guys! A truely sad day in MMORPG history. My first online game, and still one that I would play given just some modern improvements.
I know they flopped with AC2 but that was only because it was released way before it was ready. If they are serious about AC3 I would commit money as a founder to help get that started.

It is one of my big regrets that I never played AC; EQ at the time took all my attention. I agree with others that it will be a sad day when AC's servers are switched off for the last time and we lose one of the traditional, original MMO's of the past. Hopefully one day in the not too distant future a dev team will resurrect some of the features that made AC special to a lot of gamers.
In the, at least, first four years of Asheron's Call it was often looked down upon by people who played Everquest or Ultima Online. The reason was Turbine's willingness to publicly state what the other two developers wouldn't. Turbine accepted that players were going to use macros. Including combat macros.
They split the difference between attended (ACM) and unattended combat macroing (UCM). ACM was accepted. UCM was not accepted and could lead to suspensions or bans. Turbine wanted people to actually play AC but accepted the inevitable and did not publicly disapprove of attended macroing.
I tried macroing. I found the process of creating a macro to be tiresome. I found no fun in creating a macro or enabling my machine to play a game. I still don't. I pay my money to play a game. Not to watch my computer play it.
I found watching my machine play a game to be more boring that trying to watch Will Farrell try to be funny.

Thank you very much Forest for preserving memories in Asherons Name
My fellow Aubereans, fellows of Dereth, it was great knowing you
Another blog deserves to be created on the 31st when our final deaths come.
My hope is we just aren't ceremoniously ignored that day when they bring servers down for maintenance at 7am central time though I suspect this will be the death blow.
2017 "The Year of Sundering MMOs" will be our hardest year.
I still have dreams about AC! That was the best mmorpg I've ever played. I remeber the meetings to create the Darktide Rhino Party alliance to fight Blood and the PKs! Played as Zuz, Wotan, Darkon and other characters.
