I am not inclined to spend money on EA games either. I did buy ARK but only after I was able to play on a free weekend. That was around a year after they first released it for EA.

I do have Seven Days to Die as well, but thst was bought for me. I am interested in Exiles but have to see more. I really enjoyed ARK so that is partially why I am watching this as there seem to be similarities.

Well at a bar you know exactly what you get for $30.

Would you be ok if the bar tender gave you half empty drinks that were not even what you paid for?

Thats what you get with EA - half baked unknowns

I"m not sure why people are complaining.

There are people willing to buy into early access. As long as they know what they are getting into, and accept it then that's on them.

For those who don't want to do it then don't do it.

At the bar $30 gets you three drinks plus depending on the bar those drinks are watered down,  if you made those drinks yourself at home it would cost maybe $15.

    /analogy failed please try again.

"Unity in the community" you mean people should do what you want or somehow there is something wrong with it?  Yeah not how the world works pal.

Your "unity in the community" sounds very similar to those at the women's match last weekend who made it known the women who don't share their beliefs or ideas were not welcome.

So with your logic, if I want to try a car before I buy it, I should pay for it, right? Ok...Or people could have some patience and wait for companies to screen testers and have proper testing phases before release (i.e. like Blizzard does). But ok, I'm sorry if what I "want" is how things used to be before companies realized that they could make money through people's impatience and stupidity.

Again what you "want" is fine and nothing wrong with the issue is it's ignorant to think others who "want" something different are wrong, impatient and stupid.

I get your point but when people start talking about "unity" I suspect it's "unity along the lines of what they like/dislike/believe in".

The truth is we all have different likes, dislike, concerns, wants, etc.

Companies charging for what they want to charge is a complete non-issue for me. And I say good on them.

I also say that if players don't buy then that's on them and they misjudged the market. If players do buy then they have a customer base interested in those things and I have no problems with them making money selling to their customers.

Because in truth, given that people do buy early access, DLC and whatever else there is, that means that there is a good portion of people who want this stuff.

So who should be in unity with each other?

In this case it would be like ordering a gin & tonic and just getting the tonic. (Well we are still distilling the gin you understand it will be along later - unless the bar has to close down.

I don't see anything wrong with the suggestion that buyers get more info. As it stands Early Access could mean anything. Game not due to finish for 5 years - or in several cases - never.

Edit: graphically the game looks good; and the lore / background story is ideal. This could turn out to be one of the better "survival" games.

    Well "no".

If a car company did that and no one purchased they would learn that there wasn't a market for that. If a car company did that and the majority of people were happy to comply they would have a market for it.

Of course, it's a bad analogy because a car needs to have loads of features to run as well as certain safety requirements. A video game can still be played "given what it is" if it has a feature missing or incomplete.

Obviously, the people buying into the experience would (should!) be accepting of that fact.

Let's say EA is like selling half-written novels before proof-reading. How does that hurt people whom like to wait for the published final works?

And this whole "paying to test their game" is a joke really. You being there does nothing for them in terms of testing, unless they just need to stress test their server. And that can be easily arranged by making an announcement and a free access over a weekend. What you do is up to you, you can just play and not test anything for them. Hell, I don't even report bugs when I am invited to alphas and betas for free--hire game testers.

Now I'm not saying I'm definitely right. But I haven't read any rational reasoning behind this complaint yet.

You can be the first! Tonight.. on mmorpg.com!!

Stop paying for early access games and they will stop charging or offering it. I like my meals finished not half cooked and still cold..

Why pay to be a tester.. I never got the logic.

They are supposed to PAY for testers or do a few open betas to get the bugs out.

But hey to each his own..No thanks I can wait until it actually comes out later this year.

IMO devs should be required to state % of completion for any EA that charges money.

At least give buyers an informed decision if they are paying $30 for a product that might be 70% unfinished.

You mean like your buddies at Trion did with their early access games, I know first hand how lapse Funcom are but they are nowhere near as devious as Trion.

    Criteria for me to buy:

    1. Game is officially released
    2. I see positive reviews 30-60 days after release

    Then I'll consider purchasing.

I will never purchase a game at release again and early access purchases are no longer part of my vocabulary.

Never again. Those days are over.

There is plenty of info on Conan Exiles they have even said how long they plan to be in early access and which feature will not be available at first in early access.  It's not their fault if at this point somebody buying EA of Conan Exiles doesn't understand what they are getting.

Fantastic trailer, but Funcom ALWAYS has epic trailers. I still remember TSW trailers as some of the best. The in-game cut scenes, though, look like they were done by the intern (a bit harsh but not entirely untrue). I'm sure my older kids will want to play it, so I can see them buying it. I'm not really into the building type games, though, so I'll wait and see what the combat system is like once it's out.

I'll be there day 1. I don't think $30 for a game from an AAA company is that bad. Don't have much experience with survival games.. maybe that's why I'm so excited for this. Something new. Looks awesome from videos I've seen.

All this pissin as usual for nothing ,Its 30$ FFS, if 30$ is that much of concern, perhaps focus on other parts of your life , would be a good suggestion .. And.. Its on STeam , so you will have 2 hours to play it and refund if you dont like it ..

The idea of EA is to support a project you have interest in ,Thats who they are targeting , if you dont want to support an EA game dont .. But to Piss and moan about 30 fuggin dollars is sad and pathetic ..

Why this would be any better than AoC?

They used the same assets, same engine and probably the same Siege mechanics.
To me that's just a small scale AoC, anything you can do in this game you could do it in AoC.
    Unless I am missing something.

AoC is dead so they had to do something with its assets.
Exiles is just a cheap way to recycle an old game and turning it into the flavor of the month hoping to squeeze some extra cash from the IP.

I understand why Funcom did it, but I am not sure it will pay off.

they did not use the same engine. not the same siege mechanics either. Exiles is made with Unreal Engine.
I heard they did this and that they have that.  I think they worked this and did it this way.  A friend said they also did that.  Man this game sucks!

I self identify as a monkey.

    Lol!  totally agree with you.

If you are an adult and you really can't pay $30 or £40 in my case then you really need to get a grip on life.
Next they will be blaming it on immigrants   "no fare edwardo plays Conan Exile's, he must of stole the loots " wrong!  he has a god damn job.

Save  £10/€10 or $10 a week then in four you can buy the game if you really can't afford it off the bat.

Yep, they've lost me at that part   when Joel said in the AMA here, that they're too deep behind the valve so while EA is obviously steamy, there's no chance for a non-steamy release later.

I will still get the Barbarian edition though, just not now, rather on a sale   the comics, the books, the tabletop rpg, the soundtrack (sure, soundtracks plural, but I already have the first two, huge Knut fan here), and the bundled AoC stuff well worths the price - and when grabbed all, I still can ditch the steamy Exiles code to a buddy as a gift
