You can lie and steal in any game, that hardly seperates Eve from the rest. It also saddens me that you think THATS the best aspect of the game to share with a newcomer.

Well, as I've said before, EVE is a game to be played with other folks, not really a very solo-oriented game. If you found a good corp with some experienced players, they can help you with everything from deciding what skills to train, to how to outfit a ship for certain situations, to how to engage in PvP and actually win. It's damned hard to figure out all of this stuff on your own, I agree, the learning curve in EVE is very steep ... hence the need to get together with some vets and get their advice and input. You'll learn a lot that way, and advance faster.

And yes, if you want to train skills faster, train the learning skills early on .. it really does cut down on your training time.

And as for assault cruisers, don't worry about them. They're very good, but way too expensive and pretty much uninsurable .. don't worry about how long it takes to train them, you shouldnt be worried about flying a HAC until you're a much more advanced player. if you want to aim for an advanced ship earlyish, try for interceptors ... they're extremely useful and fairly affordable as well.

That doesn't matter. Two different genres and types of game really. WoW also more server worlds than EVE which only has one server world (besides the test one). EVE just set a record for their game with 12,895 users on at the same time. Not too shabby!

Just broke ~13400, this last weekend. All on the same persistant world, no shards.

Download the trial. Look up Quanteeri, once you get in game. I'll give you a tour, and promise not to blow you up.

Make no bones about it, Eve is a pvp oriented game, though not just in combat settings, also in trading, mining, NPC hunting, etc. Everything is about getting ahead and staying there. Yes, there is a large NPC influence in the game, but the main brunt of the content is the players themselves. It is a very social game.

I believe many players, along with myself, would disagree with Mutineer's assessment. No module in the game is the do-all, end all. There is alway, and I mean ALWAYS, a way to counter anothers actions, be it PC/NPC. And as far as I can tell, at least 99% of the items descriptions are accurate.

Yes, the learning curve is stiff, but not unattainable, and it is posible to catch up to the skill levels of many players in the game. Of course you won't be able to equal the Skill Points of 2 year old players, but you can get near there actual effective levels within a few months. There is no end game in Eve, thus everything starts out as a long term goal.

As far as the Heavy Assault Cruiser goes, to give a StarWarGalaxies analogy, that would be like becoming a Jedi in a month. My corp had a guy that trained, from a newb, specifically for HACs. He was able to do it in about 4 month, this included the time to train learning skills.

Yes, the last week has been shakey for the servers, but as stated above, this is a rarity. Also, from my experiences with other companies, EA, Blizzard, Novalogic, Sony, and many others, CCP's support is top-notch. This stems rom the fact that Eve is the only game they develop, so the staff is dedicated and knowledgable. And it's not going to get shut down just because the company has some new football 200X release lined up, such as EA did with Earth and Beyond.

just have to say this: ghsc rocks!
    brilliant people absolutely amazing.

this is what makes eve worth while you could be the most powerful person in the universe but it is a long way down to fall from so high up. ::::08::::::08::::::08::::::08::::::08::::::08::

just play the trial and if you don't love the game from the start there is something wrong with you.

i am just a humble noob but it is worth it. i'll even be so bold as to say it is the eight wonder of the world.

Thanks to all the EVE vets who posted critiques on the game. I'm going to try the trial next week and massively screw up a few characters before I decide on subscribing or not. image

After hearing all these great things though I was wondering if you guys could tell me some of the downfalls of the game (so they don't come as a shock). ((Note: I played Shadowbane in the past, so the cutthroat PvP aspect of the game won't phase me much.))

Always try to have an aim to work towards, look for a nice corp, with which you can grow or become a part of, and never ever assume you are safe. Then you should avoid a lot of possible "downfalls".
