No video? There certainly needs to be a video before asking for money. The game looks great, but even I can make a similar world in Unity3d.

Way too early.  For those who jump in now, I hope it works out.  However, don't come whining later that you wasted 40 bucks if it doesn't.  It's too early for the safe bet.  Risk takers are another matter and I wish them success.  Me... I'm gonna hold off for a few more tangibles.

While I normally agree that asking to buy into an early bird program with little more than some words on a website a very short environment video is not a good way to establish yourself the following from said website does indeed seem to show good faith on the companies part for those that opt-in,

"We offer unconditional refunds. As a team, we all agreed that it's unfair to get caught up in the hype of a new game and end up getting burned. We do not want you to feel like they bought into a game that isn't what you hoped for.

So, up until the second phase of Alpha testing, we'll let you refund your early bird purchase with no questions asked. This gives you a chance to play the Alpha yourself, and opt-out if you think the game won't develop into the game you wanted. There are no restrictions on amount of time you have played, and there are no limits on how long you owned the game -- so long as you decide before the second phase of Alpha Testing starts you will be granted a full refund.

Yep, quoted their whole refund policy in the full article. It's a good deal, if you ask me. I'm considering the twenty dollar version.

Without the refund clause there would be no chance... with it... unlikely but I will go look. I still hate the fact that the WarZ guy is in any way associated with this.

Also interesting that they talk about needing to request a refund prior to the second phase of Alpha testing but the packages dont refer to phases.  Just the ambiguous access to closed Alpha events for two of them.

    Buyer Beware.

How is the WarZ guy involved?

They purchased his engine to make the game on, so indirectly.

The WWO team has spoken VERY strongly about the fact that they are using an engine but that the dev is NOT involved in any way, shape or form in the project on any possible level. This is how misinformation gets spread to the ends of the earth.

You can read their statement about the matter here:

Before you start shelling out money I would get clarification from them which packages get this refund offer as they said you have to up until the 2nd alpha to get a refund but looking at their site and the packages it seems the $20 package doesn't get alpha access.

edit: sry my bad the $40 package has it checked just not the $20 one.

I don't care about alpha. Beta or even EA release is fine. Policy seems pretty solid.

Yes.. the engine developed by "one of his companies"

Sergey Titov is not involved in the development of this game, but yes we use a game engine developed and supported by one of his companies.

That is the exact quote. If you want to rely on one of that guy's companies to support the engine driving this game go right ahead.  It's not that I am saying he is secretly developing the game, but the game developers will be relying on Sergey Titov's company for the engine and for ongoing support of the engine.  To me personally, he is not the type of guy that I would want to rely on for anything, but to each their own.

What a person "says" and what a person "does" are frequently two different things in the game industry.  Much like when Chris Roberts said in 2013 that stretch goals would not delay Star Citizens 2014 release.

I remember one of the remakes of war-z said they were a brand new company and tried to make it appear that Titov was not involved.  It later turned out that he was.

With all the game engines out there, to choose that one with its poor reputation and with its biggest complaint being the amount of cheaters/hackers and then to say it was picked because of the strong anti-cheat built in should be sending an alert to your game-dar or ripoff-dar.

Titov did not license them the engine for free.  He may not be involved in the "development" of the game but he sure as pie is involved on the backend somewhere

    Got burned by Project: Genom!

Got sucked in by their awesome video and pretty images, only to find an absolute TURD of a game when I first logged in.

Pretty still images, does not a good game make. Steering clear of this Chinese parade of Red Flags!

Have to agree, been shat on several times from buying an EA (Early Access) game which ceased, so i am very weary thesedays. I wont go for this as of yet as it is bar far way too early. It is one my watch list however and i do hope it plays out as it most probably would be a game i would purchase but only after it looks like its actually going to release and be good.

From what I see on their web site I think it's static pictures + text. That should appeal to the ultra-retro crowd.
