The source is a confirmed douche who has an ax to grind because he was canned by the company. Not sure why he was even given a mention here.
Horse manure. The guy is a jerk, no question, but that doesn't relegate his insights into EA's bottom line irrelevant. If you don't see the "handwriting on the wall" with regard to big house publishers and single-player RPGs, you're simply burying your head in the sand.
That is your opinion, mine is you are promoting this racist jerk and giving him a platform to spread his hate. I can guarantee if this was a white man who made the same claims about POC and came out with this revenge to get back at company who fired you would not have posted it here.
And you would be 100% wrong because I'm not focused on who he is, but what he's saying. You are only seeing what you want to see and trying very hard to be offended.
Nope I am just giving you the FACTS. Only covering one topic of his hate-filed interview is on you not me. I am not offended just pointing out you are providing a platform for his hate speech and how he cant be taken seriously. He was fired by the company now he is trying to bash them and you take him serious? He is clearly pissed he cant get a job except to start his own indie company to make racist video games. But hey FACTS= offended here I guess.
I would love to help you out, its clear your in a lot of pain over this person but I think this thread will shortly be locked and I really should refrain from saying anything.
anyway, try to relax, its not a big deal
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

Yeah it sucks we have people like him who cant keep their ignorance out of video games. They claim all "white men" are racist but they are given a free pass on their nonstop blatant racism. .. .
and why is that a problem? I mean for starters why is racism considered a bad thing by default all the time?
Well according to the media, education system, lawmakers and some pretty ignorant people racism isnt a bad thing when its directed at white males like Maneer does.
Disregarding his thoughts on EA's motive for canning single player games in favor of microtransaction-laden "open world multiplayer experiences" (i.e. "games as a service") because he has controversial views on other subjects is short-sighted. THAT is the subject of the article, not his political stance.
Ok, first of all, it doesn't take an insider to understand this. Anyone can look at their quarterly results (http://investor.ea.com/results.cfm) and make the observation that their digital revenues are massive. I mean their "Service and Other" revenue for 2017 was nearly as much as their actual product sales ($600 million versus $800 million), so it really isn't rocket science that they would try to push the envelope and capitalize further. It's the same reason that you can do your groceries at Walmart, or get your credit cards from Walmart.
Effectively, digital goods and services could actually be saving the industry. Now, in the context of EA, we aren't talking about "saving" in the same vein as someone smaller, but their net income is such that if they didn't have that category, they could be showing losses some years. Effectively, a game alone does not guarantee success. So it really isn't that surprising what we're seeing. nothing remotely of the sort. not even sure why you would think that, I am just saying its clear that you are in a lot of pain over this subject and for reasons I can understand. Its not how I see the world but I DO understand your pain.

Honestly, the only part of that interview that interests me is the part about EA and the issue of monetization and the death of single player RPGs. The rest I can dismiss because I don't care what he thinks about any other thing. I don't get too worked up about some game developer's political opinion. I make my own choices and decisions by looking to people whose opinions matter to me. His do not. But his thoughts on the games industry have merit.

Oh I am sure suzy being a stand-up journalist (if they are called that on this site) reached out to EA to verify Manveers claim players are spending $15,000 on packs. I am not sure how he would know this since he was fired BEFORE ME:A launched so I am sure she verified the information right...

No need to be insulting. It's possible to have reasonable discussions without being nasty.
On topic, he was speaking of ME3.
Secondly, you understand the difference between a "news piece" and an "article"? This is just an informative piece to say, "hey look what's out there since we last talked on Friday" and not an analysis of what was said. That's what the thread is for.

He is probably correct in his assertion this time, but why are we giving Manveer Heir any credibility?
Because whether or not you like his politics, he is still an "insider" in both BioWare and at EA. His points with regard to microtransactions and EA's killing off of single player AAA games stand as valid.
Politics implies that his statements hold potential merit in a conversation. No. When someone wakes up and decides "you know what? Fuck this entire race of people in particular," it ceases to be politics and veers into the domain of legitimate hate speech.

which is why many will ignore literally all news, all information, all science, unless they personally witness it.
I find that not useful but I get it but it does make it hard to do even the most basic of things like check the weather or traffic
You asked "why would he make this up". I find that an odd question for an adult as you (and most of us here) are adults, we've done some living, we know that there are all sorts of people out there including people who just "say things" because ... well, their own reasons.
All that other stuff you just put there falls under "what the heck are you talking about". Then again, you've always had your own sense of logic that I think would make more sense to us if you actually let us in on the train of thought.
Part of it is the source isn't it? One guy says bad things about a company and it may or may not be true because there is no way to really know except to find other people to corroborate his story.
that's the crux of it isn't it?
The whole reason the news has at least a little more truth about it (and this depends largely on which news organizations one listens to and who they are owned by etc, etc) is that it's their business to "report the news". If a news organization gets it wrong more often than not then they are not a good news organization and won't stay in business.
Of course, this says nothing about news organizations that "touch upon the truth" but are more about entertaining or just plain sensationalism. But that's another topic.
if one person says something, and something that seems to be alarming then that is cause to look further into the truth. Not to take that person on face value "as the truth".

like I said, its completely possible the entire thing was a marking scam put on by EA and he is getting paid. In fact I think that theory I just gave is more plausible
now if you excuse me I have to check the traffic but not sure if its real or not
or maybe...and this is just a theory a bluesky thought so to speak. maybe he is not making anything up, maybe the article is 100% correct and maybe his information is 100% correct. Do you think that is possible?
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
As negative as this news seems to be and is, there's a small glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel. There has been a growing demand for more immersive, open-world, and multiplayer rpg's with the increase in technology that makes it possible now-a-days. With this shift from less "single player" games and more "open-world" games, they do have a large market to appeal to. Unfortunately, it's EA though so they'll likely manage to screw this up and add some garbage p2w.

The service and other though includes "net sales previously presented as “Extra Content” and “Subscriptions, Advertising and Other" so I don't think we can conclude that it is simply microtransactions.
