Plus the legendary week of ship sale specials has begun today with a video and the announcement of a new concept ship, the Hawk for Bounty Hunters.

A small, light fighter with an emphasis on weaponry, the Hawk boasts an impressive arsenal of lethal and non-lethal weapons, making it a perfect ship for independent bounty hunters or local security looking for a little more punch.

Key ideas are the "quality" and content of these components.

Example...Is there any reason to land on these moons? If there are modules or assets on these moons does it appear to be the same repeated assets form moon to moon?
Quantum travel is meaningless,a nice term to throw out there to make it sound amazing but it is VERY simple tech to use in a game.

To me al that matters is the overall PURPOSE to play the game.If all the game represents is a single player 3-4 weeks game plus a pvp game, that is not something i want to play, same reason i couldn't care less about Eve.
I have always had a strong gut feeling that the majority that like Eve and this game are just there for the ships, like a mmorpg gamer only there for the mounts and pets,i am not looking for superficial reasons.I want a complex yet simple game to maneuver full of content ideas and longevity systems.

Well... There's missions and wrecks you can do. Pirate hunting as well, or being a pirate. Basic cargo runs. It's interesting. I've put around 300 hours in the single player stuff mainly. Some PU stuff. Played around 5 hours of 3.0.

    >>> To me al that matters is the overall PURPOSE to play the game. >>>

The same purpose as in Star Wars Galaxies (RIP).

You are not Luke Skywalker - Hero of the Universe. You are Uncle Owen before the Imperium arrived. You are any of those guys in the Star Wars Cantina. You are any of those guys running around in the Yavin hangar bay shortly before the Death Star attack. You are the independent trader in Freelancer. You are the Bladerunner in the futuristic city. You are the sand people.

You are whom you want to be in a sandbox.

    >>> Example...Is there any reason to land on these moons? >>>

Yes - hundreds. Just make them yourself if you want.

Space bike races ? Hell yes.

    Rover crashcar derbies ... GOGO

Car long jump acrobatic competion .... YIIHHAAA

Mexican shoot outs a la The Good, The Bad and The Ugly .... do it

Find and explore derelict ships (just do not open any egg like thingies) .... why not ?

@roaland Just do your homework first and you'll be fine. A lot of stuff is in the stages of being released. So read the forums first to understand where the game is currently. A free to fly weekend should be coming up, so you can test it out first.

    Which is mainly on paper...

But yeah, free fly weeks are a good place to start. I have been in most of them, and they are a good way to understand the actual game vs. the dream of the BDSSE. Still not a game worth my time. Might get there eventually though, but I think it will be some years yet.

I've given up reading about this game.

Can anyone tell me 1) whether this game is even remotely close to being released and 2) whether it will still be worth playing at all on release if I've not spent any money on the game at all during its development.

    Thank you
  • sgelsgel Member EpicPosts: 2,197
    1) No, it's years away from a proper release.
    2) There will be thousands of players with more and better ships than you in the beginning.
That might not affect your experience if they manage to balance the ships but this is CIG so don't get your hopes high.

ad 1) I expect the Solo game in mid 2018 and the beginning of the multiplayer game later in 2018

ad 2) Absolutely worth. Join an org/"guild" and they let you fly whatever you want (large or small, solo or multi-crew) no matter what big or small ship you have at the start. Many orgs have A LOT more ships than members.

If you knew Star Wars Galaxies in the early days, shortly after "Jump to Lightspeed", when it was still a sandbox and not a WoW clone .... SC will be comparable to that. Which is a good thing :-)

    1) No. It's still going to take years.

    2) That remains to be seen. People who buy expensive ships will have advantage, but we don't really know yet how easy or hard getting a good ship through in-game means will be, and the game isn't ready yet to tell how much advantage real money will eventually give you.

In best case scenario people would be able to get those expensive ships through in-game means easily enough. In worst case scenario people with capital ships can buy NPC crew to man them and you'll need to organize a raid of poor players if you want to take kill a lone rich player.

yup I've been telling myself to hold off till 3.0 for that very reason. If they can take all of 3.0 live and have it sustained, I'd say they have a winner.

I wouldn't listen to this uninformed person. NO ONE can really know the timeline for this game except CIG themselves. Releasing the current build (3.0) to the PTU already surprised every troll and pleasingly impressed everyone else. Live release of 3.0 is now just around the corner. The game is still under development so be patient. I suggest if you're planning to play or give the game a try, to do so with an open mind...it's going to be awesome!

Nah, not 2 million people. That's just the number of forum accounts. There's probably 1 million paying backers, if that.

Basically clicking away text windows ruins every MMO, try to have fun instead of rushing things. Without story and lore all there is left is a bunch of mechanics.

You can watch the Twitch streams for yourself to find out.

To sum it up it's got some amazing freedom to fly, but too much lag and problems to make any judgements about gameplay yet.

CIG knowing the timeline themselves is awfully optimistic, don't you think?  At least if we assume the public timeline they keep giving everyone remotely similar to anything they privately believe, considering that they've missed practically every public date they've ever set.

from everything I've seen so far, I don't mind pushing dates back if it means a better game in the long run. to me it sounds like 3.0 is a great base to build the rest of the game on as they expand on it in later development and to me, I'd rather they take their time with the base and get it right before trying to build on a base of bugs. 3.0 is buggy, but its also on PTU lol PTU is for finding bugs not playing a finished game. that's why they make live servers and the entire damn game is still in alpha so ya there are gonna be bugs for awhile.

Anyone who thinks otherwise hasn't played a normal MMO at release. bugs bugs bugs, we're gamers damn it, dealing with bugs is what we put up with. be it a game that's been out for years, bugs bugs bugs, to a game in beta, bugs bugs bugs so those of you who are on the bug train, take a damn reality pill (not you Tiamat64 lol generally speaking)

Like the company or not, they've been pretty damn open about their progress and why they've pushed back dates. sure you have to read past some of their hype machine to see it, but they are crowdfunded so that's to be expected.

How many times in the past has a game been rushed to release by the fans only to have it flop bc they took out content just to release it?  lets face it, games in general have been horrid lately with a few exceptions.

Watching the Twitch streams as they actually play 3.0 is a great idea.  That way you can actually get an even better understanding of the state of the game.

    S42 by mid 2018?

Yep.  Pretty sure S42 by mid 2018 isn't going to happen.  Even after they're done brushing up the mechanics of everything, they still need to produce the content for a single player game.  And content is NOT that easy to quickly produce even after the mechanics are finished.  Otherwise you'd see MMOs updating with content a lot faster instead of the current adage of "There is no way to produce content faster than your playerbase will devour it".
