imageYour Favorite MMO Classes? - The List - MMORPG.com

In last week’s List, we discussed our favorite MMO roles, so this week we’ll narrow it down a bit more to discuss our favorite classes. This list is by no means exhaustive, of course. There are far too many awesome MMO classes to pick from, but these are some of my favorites.

hmm.. Guardian/Juggernaut from SWTOR is probably the best version of a warrior that i've played.
other than that i don't think i really have any clear favorites. it's more of playstyles that i prefer like stealth classes and such.

I had fun once, it was terrible.

White Lion was great in WAR. I personally enjoyed it when the Lion could 3-4 shot ppl in seconds for awhile there which ultimately made the lion Batman and the player Robin.

EQ2 - Ranger World PvP was a lot of fun.

SWG - Clothing Designer (lol). It was so awesome waking up and finding a whole ton of in-game emails requesting custom clothing.

SWG - Bounty Hunter. There is nothing more immersive than hunting down a real player in a video game. This should be available for all games.

Everything else since has been the same old same old.

    Everquest - Cleric
    DoaC - Blademaster
    Black Gold - Dwarven Punisher
    Guild Wars 2 - Guardian
Dungeons and Dragons Online - Paladin
War Hammer 40K Eternal Crusade - Assault Marine/Choppa Boy

I've played a lot of other games, but none of them long enough to really get involved enough to have a class that felt I liked above all others, mainly because I didn't enjoy the game enough to feel out the classes and other parts of the game.

Seeing WAR makes me sad... So much fun and such a great game just pushed out to early by EA. I also played a White Lion loved the unique classes each race had. Also each race having its own starting zones I think WAR was the only MMO besides wow I maxed out like 5 or 6 different characters

WAR-Witch Hunter. Mostly just for aesthetics, but the aesthetics were that good. I like the class lore from the universe, but it was never really explored much in WAR and the mechanics were one of the few classes that didn't really feel pushed the envelope.

WAR-Warrior Priest. A healer that can just smash about and frontline decently with AoE heals for all my people. That sorcerer in Al-Haikk still owes me two wishes...

Man, if they just would have made a more enduring and endearing game around the classes. I could name almost every class in WAR on this list. Not many I really disliked.

SWG-Bounty Hunter. As Dauzqul mentioned, hunting down real players. Team Alderaan World Police. The class also required a good amount of thought and exploration, both of which I enjoy tons.

EQ-Bard. I saved this one for last because mentioning it would likely make my carpal tunnel flare up. Jack of all trades, master of none. Could fit any role in a pinch and more than once switching roles on the fly was the difference between a member or two down and a full wipe. Great for exploring. The change in attitude and morale when people realized you were a 3-4 song weaver and juggler instead of a set and forget pop star was awesome.

    LotRO - Captain

By far the most engaging class I've ever played. So much depth to the combat when things get hard, kept me entertained for years and years. Also wears heavy armour and uses halberds, so often quite aesthetically pleasing too.

Loremaster and Burglar also both awesome classes in LotRO (can you tell I like support roles?!), not quite as deep combat-wise but both much more enjoyable in PvP.

    WAR - Black Orc

Not the most enjoyable in combat, but orcs are my favourite fantasy race and warhammer has always had the best variant of orcs, though admittedly over the years they have been continually dumbed down and turned into cheesy one-liners. The black orc was just a great hulking lump of spikey metal, some really great armour sets, particularly sovreign and either conqueror or sentinel (whatever you got from bilerot burrows)

    SWG - Pikeman

I'll always have a soft spot for pikemen in SWG. It was my first MMO and this was my first profession that I mastered. Just lots of really enjoyable animations. I never made it to jedi, so this was the closest I got to being darth maul!

I personally always used the Healer type.

If I was playing more like a lone wolf, always had used dps ranger.

The original version of the Dread Knight from Vanguard: Saga of heroes. It was the funniest tank I've played in a game with ridiculously powerful words of pain that you could use every 10 minutes. The original from was once a day, which made is stupidly powerful but awesome at the same time. It was a two handed dodge tank, with heal on hit abilities, that could teleport behind for back-stabs which would heal you for the dmg done. Was so much fun to play, haven't played anything like it since.

I really like all the support classes, not just healers but also buffers, debuffers, crowd control, and the like. Soloing is fun because you have so many options when it comes to taking down obstacles, but you are also a very wanted commodity when it comes to playing in groups because not very many people choose the support path.

I've always loved the subtle 'bardy' classes that don't fit into the trinity but can turn the tide of battle by nerfing opponents, CC, buffing allies and generally doing a wide variety of sometimes unusual things, often unnoticed....yet can hold their own soloing. One of the best examples is the Lore Master from LOTRO, particularly at launch when there was a lot of whacky situational flavor skills and trees before they 'standardized' it in later years. I think it says a lot about the lack of imagination or innovation of most MMOs that all classes have to be canonically trinity with very defined 'minmax' specs with a focus on balance. I also think it's what makes all MMOs feel samey and perhaps one of the reasons they're flagging. But I don't expect companies to make a game specifically for my tastes obviously.

My favorite class is vanilla UO character which could be re-trained into anything I wanted, from herder-bard with halberd to thief with x-bow to stealth mage brawler.
