Prime Progression Server to Launch on March 7th - Rift - MMORPG.com

Rift News - Trion Worlds has announced that the subscription-only Rift Prime server will be launching on March 7th. As announced last month, the Prime server will "return us to the launch of Rift" when the cap was level 50 and at a time without boosts, supply crates, no equipment or bags in the Store and more. "This is the world of Rift before free-to-play".

I might just be there,in these times, i mostly wait for AoC, CU, or something, been returning to various old mmos lately, most recently lotro, and a little age of conan. but all these micro payments, seem to create or foster various negative aspects of both the game and its inhabitants(this includes alot of mmos).

Wait, the prime server is time-gated? FFS I just lost all interest. Why in the world would they do that? Edit: This completely turns off most people who only have a couple of hours a week to play. I was actually legitimately excited to play this, but what's the point when I have to go over to the free-to-play garbage servers at some point anyways?

Primalist will not be available and classes will be more in line with whats available today.

You will also be able to transfer your Prime character to live servers at the end. Which 99.9% means you will probably join the F2P model at that point so its a choice to continue. I will get this confirmed.

Players have wanted a better way to level up for three years now so they aren't on their own leveling, most stop by level 30. I would consider this a great opportunity to level up with others and also enjoy the old content with others at the difficulty they are originally instead of going in now 20 levels above.

Level 50 is maximum level on Rift Prime Edit: Level 50 is the first cap like original servers with higher levels being added later.

More like they see easy money and are taking it since they wont have a chance next year with wow vanilla servers

I'm all for seasons but this isn't like diablo where you can get to end game in a day, and actually feel like you progress after 3ish hours. This is 50 levels of pre-F2P Rift. You need to dedicate some time to get to max level, then grind gear for raids then grind raids for epic loots.

This makes absolutely no sense to me.

I'm sure based on response to the server they will probably consider keeping these up as sub only servers and not force the move over to the F2P servers. I'm sure it's based on the actual number of people that want to use the server. I'll try it out when it launches and hopefully so will enough people to justify this P2P server.

I agree. Not a fan of the time limit, however I may give this title another look. F2P is what caused me to stop playing in the first place.

I can only imagine that this is a really good metric to see if people really would rather pay a monthly subscriptions and be done with cash shops and loot boxes. Only time will tell. Good news though.

I, for one, would much rather pay a subscription.

I really was interested till I saw it was for a limited time, so seems pointless to devote time and a sub to it as even if your character gets transferred to the f2p server at the end I will never play it as I have no interest in the f2p server what so ever and will never play it.

F'ing Trion. Anyone who's played the original knows how long it takes to get your first mount....but for 30$ get instantly! Obvious cash grabs are too obvious sometimes.

Not surprised. It's only a matter of time before Trion slips a cash shop into everything they touch.

the idea was good till I read the time frame for then transfer for the crap servers fucked with all cash shop thing, I mean for what reason someone would pay to be in a P2P server so tehy can just be tossed with the whole pay to win peeps?

they should keep it and then launch teh updates(without the cash shop) in there overtime not after a certain time make people transfer.

No point playing on this server if it will end up on FTP server. Really slick way of getting people to pay a sub though.

Nope. Shutting it down and forcing people onto F2P servers killed this idea. My guild played Rift at launch and loved it. We were really excited to finally play it again until this news. No one is touching it now with a ten foot pole... available for purchase on launch day from the Trion cash shop.
