Gonna pass on this. Seems like they have given up on this before they've even implemented it.

Going to pass too might as well play "Black Desert" if you want to play Rift, And not having cosmetic Items carry over or class servers to a subscription server is nuts.

It seems to me the only reason to play is you avoid F2P riff-raff? ;)

    Will LFG be available?

    Yes

    Will LFR be available?

Maybe, working on it but because of 20 man more work is needed

Nope if I wanted to play a game with LFG/R I would be playing FFXIV or WOW. Sorry but these kill MMORPGS and its been said thousands of times over.

so let me get this straight , is the same game as live with 50 max lvl , new server and unable to play some souls? everything is the "same" (of course no ca$h $hop items and what not but the gameplay wont change at all , is the same skills , passives ect)

the only good thing going for it is fresh server and no cash shop thats good and all but i dont know if its worth it.

Its a clean server, making sense that none of the things you already have on live will be on this server. there will also be monthly contests held that could involve wardrobe collections so it makes even more sense. Attaining wardrobe items will be different with stuff currently on the store being attained via the game. More fun!

Level 50 is the starting cap so souls in that level, new levels like Storm legion will come later and those souls with it etc

I'm going to pass on this too, although initially optimistic Prime would have been great, it just doesn't have the same appeal as a genuine chocolate Rift server run like Oldschool Runescape would have had.

Im still interested, even if its just 1 year of some semi-nostalgic fun, perhaps by then we will get AoC or CU..i find myself in a place of limbo with regards to mmo´s. its either wow, where the irl friends are, or ff14. i simply miss an open world mmo, where the is alot going on in the landscape with goup, and dungeoneering, and pvp. so what else it there but rift prime?

Totally understandable but with the thought of possible transfers at the end it makes sense that certain things are done in a way so that transition is smooth. Bringing back stuff that no longer exists would only make it a messy and give false expectations/experiences.

So people who subscribe already will have to pay a second sub for this?

With the Rift cash shop being considered so p2w and the BDO cash shop being considered so extremely overpriced by many.  What are the mmorpgs that have a reasonable cash shop to indulge in without being so mandatory or p2w?

But you will avoid it only for some time. Eventually your character will be transfered to F2P version of game and maybe new Prime season will start for you to do all of that again. This is terrible in my opinion.

Hoped for separate non F2P server that will go on alongside F2P version for players like me that dislike that model and even B2P MMOs to some degree. In short when game heavily relies on cash shop.

"Some time" will be more than a year - once the server pop falls to unsustainable numbers your characters will be migrated to F2P servers.

Again not sure about you, but expecting this to stay up forver when pop falls down to like 100 players would be absurd.

I mean it is completely unrealistic for this server to remain up forever, not sure how players dont understand this.

if it was unrealistic why bother do this? and they didn't ask forever, just as long rift exist :p, with it won't be that long, this will not bing new people, if do after the sever expire they are gone, trion name only bring shudder for people who dealt with then before

Time will tell, it all depends on how many are interested in the Rift Prime Server. They would need enough players for it to be sustainable. They are taking things slow; I understand that.

They are not only giving players enough time to enjoy it but enough time to themselves to figure out how important this is to players. If this gets more people to purchase patron so that they can play on this server, this may change.

A PR gaffe they could've avoided by merely saying "it will be permanent so long as it's popularity makes it sustainable."

Two sides of the same damn coin, and they somehow still failed to take the more PR-friendly route to avoid turning off potential players who aren't interested in F2P Rift.

I haven't done the rift thing before and am considering this as a new work to explore.

Is the lore fun? At least some epic quest lines? Or is it more of a homogonized quest hub blah thing?

    But this is common sense.

Any game will have servers up as long as its sustainable.

When its no longer sustainable - servers shut down.

Should every MMO state "we will run as long as there is enough players to pay the bills and keep servers running?"

Becasue they all do this already - the only thing Trion said here is state the obvious.
They went out of their way to make it seem like they're heavily leaning on shutting it down.

Look through the threads about this idea, see the responses.  You guys can equivocate as much as you want, it's quite clear the message that many potential players are receiving.

Personally I think this is great and if I didn't have such a loathing toward Scott Fartsman I would be in. Got burned with Defiance and Archeage so not another dollar of my money will ever make it into Fartsmans pocket.

Because a large number of players dont have a realistic grasp on their own MMO subscription tendencies.

Majority who complain about this would never play even for a year and would quit while the server is still up and running, probably within the first 3 months.

Its litterally making a complete non-issue into a problem heh

And none of that changes that the largest deterrent for folks so far has been that it's been introduced as a limited time server.

If you go to their site they have it setup like a permanent fixture. I think they'd like this to be a permanent thing and a success. They are putting in the effort to present it that way. We'll see how everyone feels in a year.
As soon as they confirm they plan to drop the sunset date, I'll likely try it.

Glad to hear they're backing away from offering a sunset timeline prior to even opening the server!
