Doesn't matter: with Disney toon character graphics the game shouldn't be relevant to anyone older than 12 anyway.
Wait what? Since when does having an art style constitute whether or not people over a certain age should play it? That's a little absurd to say.
Just because you think of a certain art style as childish, and judge products based on that, doesn't mean everyone else shares the same line of thought.
While I don't like the art style (or similar art styles) you are 100% correct.
I find it hysterical that people think certain art styles are "not grown up" yet video games are "so grown up!"
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
I knew this game was gonna be terrible when first laid eyes on it. I love pirate games, but this game looked to me like a PUG/couch co-op pile of garbage. No real story or quests. Just ocean, a few islands and frustration. Plus it's first person.
Does every game have to be a single player game? No. If you want a single player game go play a single player game. Stop making every game a single player game. Not every game is going to be for everyone that is why the gaming industry sucks right now.
Did I say it did?
The problem here is you think "Go play a single player game" is an adequate solution to THEIR problem when it is not, it is a passable solution to YOUR problem and there it fails.
You suggest they go play a single player game, well what game should they play? Are you really suggesting they go play a different game? Well how about this logic, this matter annoys you, maybe YOU should go play another game. Does this sit well with you? No? Well now you understand the people you direct your "go play a single player game" at feel. You probably still don't care though.
Going back to the actual problem, the game has single player content in a multiplayer world. It is designed for both types of game along with a hybrid, the co-op gamer (which is where I mainly sit btw thanks for asking). Why shouldn't a single player play this game and wish to provide feedback they feel would improve their experience?
These barebones release trends remind me of the article @Torval linked talking about the increased cost of development.
I think we're seeing that companies feel they need to make something back prior to creating that extra content these days. Throwing the extra funding required to add a lot of extra unique content presents a higher risk than ever before, so I could see why companies wanna see interest and some costs recouped before committing to such an endeavor.
"Let's throw crap at the wall and see what sticks."
Developers did this to themselves with poor product vision/development, putting investors and the bottom line before their customers and not having a plan for revenue on lasting material. The lack of risk shows even publishers don't have the confidence in their own product to sustain sales.
Don't necessarily disagree there. I think the industry inflicted wounds on itself by allowing a trend of devaluing the base product to fester. Now, just getting a box price is like pulling teeth, because there are numerous comparable free options.
Well, until there are zero games supporting Windows 7, I'm not upgrading to Windows 10. That was what kept me from purchasing the game in the first place. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one in that boat, pun intended.
Sea of Thieves is made by Microsoft through one of their subsidiaries. They know that they lose a lot of sales, but their aim isn't to make profit through Sea of Thieves, it's to use Sea of Thieves as an exclusive to drive people towards their other services.
I don't think we'll need to have worry about for-profit PC games not supporting Win 7 for a couple of years.
I have been playing it for a few days now. The idea is very good and unique, but very poorly executed. away from the server issues ( its all expected when a online game first launch). Forced player into multiplayer mode. no single play content at all. huge map with some many insularities, but nothing on all those islands except hens, pigs, birds and sneaks (some skeletons too). Only three main types of quests: looking for chests, fight waves of skeletons, catch hens and pigs and deliver to outposts. and that's all you can get from this game away from the sailing a boat. it kept me busy for maybe a day ( and the fun as well ) and then there is nothing else to do. This game feels so hollow and lifeless
I've only played for a couple hours, but it seems to me that the game turned out exactly how I expected from its marketing, which is to say that it offers something new and unique that has the potential to be enormously fun to the right people but more likely a major dud to the masses. To make it a mainstream game, it needs mainstream ideas and mechanics, such as:
- A faction that rewards you for "evil" PvP (flagged as a Marauder for attacking/stealing from non-Marauders)
- A faction that rewards you for "good" PvP (intervening on behalf of non-Marauders, hunting down those flagged as Marauders)
- NPC ships, both 2-person sloops and 4-person galleons, as well as AI behaviors that place them in either of the two aforementioned categories, and with randomized loot in the cargo hold.
- The ability to hire NPC ships AND/OR player ships for an equal share of your voyage reward, allowing solo/2-man crews the ability to beef up security a bit and still enjoy PvE albeit with a lesser reward.
- MORE OF EVERYTHING!
- ACTUAL CHARACTER CREATION!
In its current state, this game's longevity will dwindle faster than Destiny, Battlefront, or any other recent multiplayer game that most people were disappointed by.
Guess no one has told all the haters that there is a hidden zone that opens after you reach a certain lvl with the 3 factions? And you can solo this game in your own sloop.
Also, as much as I've enjoyed many Rare games of the past, I can't help but think the idea behind this game would've been far better realized under Lionhead Studios, and yet they were shuttered. From an employee standpoint, I'm sure it's great to have a publisher that allows you the freedom to do your thing. From a gamer standpoint, I can't help but wonder if we'd get better end results if the major publishers recognized missed potential more often and shuffled assets around to other studios to create the best product possible. Of course, I'm just spitballing and have no clue if that's even something that happens in 2nd-party game development, or if Rare fully owns the rights to the idea and assets.
Guess no one has told all the haters that there is a hidden zone that opens after you reach a certain lvl with the 3 factions? And you can solo this game in your own sloop.
That's pretty crpytic. I get the idea that some things don't need to be laid out, but was this advertised? I don't remember seeing it. Is it something that's made clear to the player in-game? That there's additional hidden areas to find through gameplay?
If not, seems strange to blame gamers for not being aware of what boils down to an Easter egg implementation.
Is this "article" anything more than rant about launch issues? Because I cant see it.
If I would put the same standards when criticizing your article, as you are putting on the game, you would be on par with Steam asset flips sold for .99.
Well they specify that more will be coming later in the actual review, and that they only got to play 10 hours. So maybe writing impressions off of a broken 10 hours of gameplay with server issues might not be the most solid way to tell people how the game is.
a lot of ppl keep talking about this 10 hour gameplay is that all there is? and also i hear its just skeletons and chickens. this doesnt sound like a good game to me? i was about to buy it but im glad i didnt.
At first, I was annoyed because they were only releasing it for WIN 10 on PC. Now, I am happy they did that, because it most likely prevented me from buying it. I am one of those people that are sick of all these launch day problems even after 138932843 betas. Seriously, how many times does this have to happen before gaming companies over-prepare their servers for launch day?
On a side note, windows 10 is awful. Please don't make this a trend where you have to have it to play certain games. It's bad enough the Shysters at Intel force you to use it with their latest processors.
I called this crap MONTHS ago during the previews.
1) Forced grouping. These are a minor group of players. No one wants to be FORCED to multiplayer. Especially not to be competitive. You can barely run your own sloop without issues.
2) Content is not there. Please show me how this game separates itself from games like Sid Meyer's Pirates or even Assassin's Creed Pirates. There's nothing memorable about it.
3) Launch mess. As always, they pushed to launch focusing on the wrong things. A game should be fun, not work.
I agree with everything except the solo part. I was able to run the sloop (even better) on my own and had no problem completing content and found the odd skirmish exciting. Not long enough to even let the Game Pass renew though. . and I still haven't been able to download the game properly. Beta ran smoother.
Game will be empty in 3-4 months and shut down shortly after just like Gigantic. Once they decide you've had enough time to play the game making it not possible to ask for a refund and sold enough xbox + game bundles it's sayonara amigos.
I honestly had far less server issues than most people. The worst being the game not rewarding me gold/rep. The problem is the game is boring. And people have already seen everything there is to see and done everything there is to do. And how do they only have 2 boats?
Point is, by time they release new content everyone will have moved on to the next big thing. I already can't get my friends to play because they're burntout. I'm not going to be able to get them to play if that's how they remember the game, regardless of what extra content is added.
I could tell Angry Joe thought this game was soooooooo bad,he was at a loss for words and wanted to file it under garbage but got the game for free so felt compelled to give it a second chance but again looked like he wanted out.
A lot of ideas have turned Joe off from games like cost "again this was the case for this over priced game",however this was maybe the first time that i noticed Joe really felt this was maybe one of the weakest game releases EVER. Nothing more than ships on seas /pvp ,all else is meaningless grinds. When i say ALL ELSE,that is a misuse of words, all else would be like 3 grind quests, run back n forth with treasure chests ...sigh.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I'd like to try this out but unfortunately you have to be using Windows 10 to get it to work.
You windows 10 holdouts miss out on shit tons of great games lol. It reminds me of the Denuvo haters.
Why would I upgrade my PC for one game when everything I have works fine on Windows 7? When I buy a new PC later this year it will have Windows 7. Feel better?
