Sea of Thieves News - The latest Sea of Thieves developer blog has been published on the official site to let players know that the team is closely monitoring "talking points" that are cropping up frequently in community discussions. Executive Producer Joe Neate has identified several and reveals both short- and long-term solutions the team is pursuing. Unsurprisingly, many of the hottest topics revolve around griefing.

I have to say it yet AGAIN,when you build your game to instill players trying to make life miserable for each other,WTF do you expect?

It is like walking down the street, someone runs by and steals your wallet or purse and says FULL LOOT,cya.

How about making games that bring players together to do PVE content, that is where you create a better CHANCE of good times.

When i keep seeing talk about pvp games and how they are creating a toxic environment,i just think some people are clued right out of this world with no clue.Just look at sports, players pitted to defeat each other, fights break out, words are often exchanged, they don't run around crying foul, they KNOW what they are getting into, the only thing that remains is all entities try to abide by the law and that is all that matters, dainty egos do not matter.

It constantly amazes me how naive companies are about their consumer base.

Newsflash folks: about a quarter of your total testing time should likely be spent SOLELY on identifying exploits or griefing potential within your game if you plan on focusing on multiplayer competition.  If you don't find them, the playerbase will, and they will make you pay for it dearly in PR.

Can't stop there, dev's should plan to spend a substantial amount of money on "run the game" activities such as anti hacking, exploit fixes, platform/network stability, DDOS defense, combating financial crime, unreasonable chargebacks, chat spamming , illegal RMT, botting, controlling playerbase toxicity, and generally anything else jerks do to spoil other people's fun.

Oh yeah, some decent customer support would be great too.

Yep, all that ... plus free beer!

There's only so much they do in advance.  And things like "controlling playerbase toxicity" is a pipe dream; that ain't never going to happen.
I agree, but griefing implies there's action being taken in-game or obscene levels of chat harassment.  Action being taken in-game is absolutely something that should be tested thoroughly by devs prior to release.  Literally have a few testers and tell them "do everything you can think of to try and ruin every other tester's experience."  It's sad to see these things happen over and over and over and over and over because devs think they're dealing with a bunch of damned saints.

I actually saw a hilarious video of this game where 3 friends were joined by a random 4th while out at sea and they decided to lock him up in the brig :) It was funny as hell because the new guy RP'd the prisoner quite well until they finally let him out and he joined the crew.

A little bit of griefing can be fun in the right place at the right time with the right people. But that type of good natured ribbing is rare and you usually have asshats taking things way too far. Schadenfreude has become extremely popular in recent years, especially online.

True, but the old saying goes: "One bad apple ruins the bunch."

Things like that are awesome, and can only occur when players are given freedom to do so, but that is a trap for developers because, inevitably, a section of gamers will take it too far and end up causing issues rather than enrichment.

Thats funny because there are alot of youtube streamers that would agree with this site, that it wasn't ready and was lacking. Maybe ready if it had maybe a $30 price tag.

In "Pro" sporting events these things happen but there are REAL consequences that often follow. Consequences can include everything from calling foul and penalizing the offending team to fines and in rare cases suspensions or even arrest by law enforcement. The problem in games such as SoT is that there are no consequences and people feel that they are open to do anything and get away with it. There have to be limits if for nothing else but the good of the game itself.

How are the rpg systems of this game? I can't find anything about any sort of character development system. Should I assume this means there isn't one, or one of any significance worth checking out?

@blamo2000 - There is no true character progression. The only progression in SoT is APPEARANCE. You rank up factions by doing the same ole stale quests over and over for gold to buy APEARANCE items. Nothing that affects you character.

Is that PC only? I heard Xbox membership subs received SoT for a 14 day trial. Do they count as "sales"?

I don't think this is accurate, just a feeling.

There really isn't much character creation at all in this game that should be fixed.

How can you complain about griefing in a PVP only game? Isn't that the whole point of the game? This is why I don't play PVP only games.
