Which game is still being played... and you can't believe it!

This isn't about what you don't like.  It's about what game is still surviving, even though you thought it would have folded by now.

There are a lot of games for me, but the one that most surprises me is 'Mortal Online'  I was an early supporter and knew I was in trouble when they sent out disks that didn't work.  From there it only got worse.  It continues to get terrible reviews, but somehow it still manages to survive.  Amazing.

Nexus: The Kingdom of the Winds. Not sure why anyone ever played this, but they have been since 1996 and they still are I believe.

I think Mortal is the one I would choose as well.

I think originally everyone was trashing it because of how bad the launch state was and they thought Henrik was just trying to do a cash grab or create vaporware. But Henrik apparently wasn't lying when he said he wanted to make his dream game. He hasn't stopped even when the population isn't huge, his team just keeps plugging along. It's surprising. I always want to go back and try it out, but the bugs I encountered originally really make me not want to. Duping, NPC's spawning inside of eachother in hundreds, hacking, corrupt GM's. But who knows, maybe it's gotten a lot better.

Mortal Online is actually a great game.

The graphics are outdated, but it has a lot of nice features to be honest. Very in-depth. If they could remake it with amazing graphics and a bigger team it would be awesome.

How come no one said Entropia?

Istaria or when it was released it was called Horizons I believe (I have a bad memory!).  I do remember beta testing this game wayyy back and it is still somewhat kicking around the MMO World.

Is that Nexus TK from Nexon? I never played it but i did play their 2nd game Dark Ages. That's been around since 1999, changed ownership from Nexon to Kru, and it's still kicking even to this day.

This was going to be the one I listed as well.  I actually played it for a 1-2 months every year or two for awhile.  Like many others it had potential.  I really liked the huge pile of races to pick from and the class setup.  It also had a good crafting and housing system.  But nearly non-existent population.  I will confess to having bought the game at a CompUSA for like $25-50 when it was Horizons and still relatively new.  Long time ago.

Yeah, I haven't logged in for a while but the last time I did it seemed deader than dead.

Add to the list: Wildstar. In so many ways I think it deserved better than it got, but I'm really surprised that it hasn't fallen to the axe... Yet.

I'm kinda surprised the first Guild Wars is still running -- and, more shockingly, getting some recent updates.

The 4th coming. It was the very first MMO I ever played. Currently as of writing this theres only like 56 people online. I'm very surprised that game is still running.

Atlantica Online, without a doubt! It's totally P2W, and the graphics are dated. It used to have the worse publisher ever, Nexon. Not to mention A LOT of forum drama.

Bless online, easy one!...I'm looking forward for their 10th revival in 2030 starting with alpha where you can buy access for like 300$ and thousands of US folks will just pay to support this cool new MMO with huge potential to be next "WoW"...amen to that!

Wildstar. It makes less money than City of Heroes (which was making money) and somehow Wildstar lives and City of Heroes died...when it was making money

I understand why people still play UO despite the graphics I can't stand anymore... because there's nothing similar nowadays. All those "UO successors" didn't make it.

I don't understand why people still play DAoC though, when you have way better games nowadays with 3 faction PvP.
I think it's the unique focus on keep/tower sieging.  Also, something I think is an underlying current for all of these titles: some folks enjoy the familiarity.  Maybe not many, but enough to keep some of these titles around.

I think nostalgia, familiarity, and community have a lot to do with it.  My title is Aion.  It's been out in the west for about a decade.  I quit playing after a year or two, but when I think back to the game, I can only remember the awesome experiences.  It also had one hell of a soundtrack.
