All I really know about the game is its sci-fi and was terrible on release..>Can you guys go into a little more detail about the gameplay?
Its a sandbox exploration game set in space. There are more planets than you could possibly visit in a lifetime of playing which were all procedural generated when the game launched. Not sure if they are now fixed ie a Virtual random replica of the universe or its all created on the fly but either way its impressive. Each planet you visit will have different biomes , some have life some dont, some have conditions where you take damage , some dont its all very unique.
The game loop is Exploring, or what i "think" is the point of the game and reaching the center of the universe. The game is kind of grindy in this respect as finding fuel to jump from galaxy to galaxy requires fuel materials that will have you going from planet to planet acquiring mats each time you want to make a jump.
The other really cool thing are the ships which are also procedural generated . Each time you visit a space station multiple random NPC ships will fly in and you have the option of chatting with the alien pilot buying any ship which catches your eye provided you have the credits
There is so much more to the game but the best way to describe this is think Elite Dangerous but not as serious and with more things to do. The graphics in No Mans Sky are fantastic and if you are the type of person who loves exploring in MMO's or RPG's then this game is a must buy, especially at the sale price.
It was half price on PS4 as well, I picked it up there this week. Only played for about an hour (don't have time yet - in the middle of moving) - but what little I did get to play was pretty engaging. Only 4 deaths so far!

I'd say playing Elite Dangerous is more Sci Fi Sim, Much more serious like EVE in the sense that it is a real universe. No Mans Sky is more like a Saturday morning cartoon or a comic book. I dont know if that makes sense but its the best way i can describe it .
I feel like ED has less to do but provides a more realistic setting, like i said a sim experience. No Mans Sky is Arcade with more to do. If you like one i think you will like the other.

I hope landings are fairly easy in NMS. Hearing about the challenges some faced in ED has kept me from trying it even though I bought it in a Steam sale earlier this year.

"Terrible" at release is probably incorrect, incomplete or not as promised is more accurate.

PirateHorde 1 is about to launch.
Add me to Steam. Arkady.
The changes have thrown me a bit. All of the elements are different so I'm still getting used to which ones I need to horde for survival, which are money makers, and which to avoid.
Don't ditch your starting planet and system right away.
Make a portable refinery and experiment to get used to it. Get friendly with the Gek and get your hazmat gauntlet upgrade and advanced mining laser as soon as reasonable. They provide access to better mats. I'm still working on the laser and just because you can build it doesn't mean you know how to get all the mats and components together easily.
Add me as well. blueturtle. picture of a blueturtle on profile and in North Carolina in USA
Having never added a friend on Steam I will have to hope it is easy to figure out.
Hey, no one ever accused me of being "Mr. Social Media."

picked it up the other day from green man gaming for around 25 bucks.feels like a totally different game now, very happy with it so far. Compared to release which has been said wasnt what was originally promised,it's alot closer to that now.
A few others have said this but while star citizen and elite are space sims no man sky is not it's alot more arcadey very simple to do most things, landing is pretty much a one button thing(i play with a gamepad) great for people who are new to space flight games or who want something simple to just hop in and explore a universe.

Yeah the landings in NMS are super easy , you just hit E anywhere you want on a planet and auto land. When you approach a space station you just fly into the light beam and it auto pilots you in.
As far as the the challenges of landing in ED, That was my favorite part TBH. All my time in ED has been spent space trucking. No bountys or mining just simply delivering one good from one planet or station to the next. Its super relaxing and almost zen like. For me its American Truck simulator in space, love it. Landing in ED = Backing your truck into a tight spot in ATS
huimble has the same problem as gog ( no mp ) or its with mp ( as the steam version )? Steam price is 26.99 aswell mehtinks, at least until tomorrow.
Pretty sure all version gog/steam w/e will have multiplayer as Next is suppose to be a free update isn't it?
NO Multiplayer is steam only right now, All other versions have to wait a few months or so.
Ah GOG is pushing the B.S. galaxy client then?
Noticed this about GoG since galaxy platform came out, the games they sell are no longer DRM free if there's a MP portion of the game as they generally require you to play via galaxy which is essentially a drm.
Thought HG wasn't suppose to do that...oh well is good you can get it free elsewhere along with a crack for MP I guess...lolz
Really games need to get back to the good ole fashion self hosting a la Grim Dawn for these single player games with limited MP.
