I would love a LOTRO MMO built with a RvR campaign like Warhammer Online...but better, of course.
LOTRO is still a very underrated game, I wonder if this means it is going away? If not my money is on this new one being mobile crap. Where is all this demand for mobile MMOs? I just don't see it.
interest in The Lord of the Rings IP, the Board expects that this good opportunity to work with
Middle-earth Enterprises will generate more revenue for the Group and create more values for
the shareholders of the Company. Accordingly, the Board is of the view that the development
and publishing of this new title based on The Lord of the Rings is in the interest of the
Company and its shareholders as a whole.
This type of company directive should worry fans of the IP in regards to the mmo space.
This just in... for profit games are still for profit.
What did you expect, that the interests of the players would be at the forefront of the justification for pursuing the project? At least they are being direct about it.
oh btw oddly if they base the game on similarian or however that is written(published by corporation NOT tolkien) it gets 50 years so comes in at same time .... january 1st 2024

I doubt they're going that far back in the timeline since they said it was going to be in a time to setup the events of the books. I think they should go further back, but it doesn't sound like it. Plus most people wouldn't understand The Silmarillion.
I'd like to see a game built around a more open world experience, rather than LotRO's focus on the book story line. I enjoy LotRO, but found the 'chapter' quests to be rather pointless and ultimately disappointing. Good game, weak elements.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
I stop playing LOTRO after 8,5 years...
but now...
now..
I abord the Hypetrain !! HYPE !!
New LOTR MMORPG.. OMG OMG OMG OMG
*start breathing*
Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
I'm sure it's next to impossible and unlikely, but some kind of merger with the existing LOTRO would be appreciated. I unlocked a lot of content for that game back in the day which would be amazing to play again with an updated game/engine etc.
I'll take a new linear game I can finish in a weekend instead of one filled with hundreds of hours of filler content. Missing those types of games in recent years.

You are aware you are on mmorpg.com right?
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Disney has been fighting really hard to keep Mickey and all those other characters who are supposed to have been public domain, from this fate for a very long time, last I heard they had the process eternally delayed in the courts. I wouldn't be surprised if other companies, at least in the US are following their lead.

Um, who is this company? Have they even developed a single game, because their website doesn't list any. The fact that they list F2P and console games as their plan as well is a big red flag. Add in that it's a prequel to LOTR, but almost certainly not anything from the silmarillion or lost tales and I am VERY pessimistic on this.
Sorry for the bubble bursting but they made a new development company and didn't list who they are. and frankly, I don't want a developer with zero track record making a LOTRO MMO.
The estate allowed this? Must be running out of money.
A prequel to LOTR doesnt necessarily require the Estate as there are the appendices. I'm still curious to find out why amazon had to make a deal with the Estate when their planned show supposedly focuses on young Aragorn.

I really hope it is about middle Earth and not the ring or fellowship this time.
