@NorseGod what are you on about?

SC is one MMO, there are no "endless amounts of private servers" on its current scope.

Do you realize that on the very original scope of SC the game was made of dev hosted and player hosted servers? If anything you should be glad that the scope changed beyond that and they are fully focused on this single persistent online MMO that is the present direction of the game dev.

This whole thing is the opposite of what seems is your perception of it.

As someone else said, it's not to good of an idea to make any type of final plans during an alpha period.  At this point the Devs have a plan but plans are subject to change and nothing is for sure until end-beta or at launch. Even then they will talk about things that won't make it into launch and still keep an incremental schedule of development after launch probably just like all new MMO's do.  Most just wait and see instead of hanging onto every stated word which is subject to change anyways.

Check out 1 of 2, where I discuss gimmicks and what lead me here.

So, I'm just hanging out reading up on stuff. Waiting on the Mercury Q&A. It's a dud. It's slow, sold as fast smuggling ship. Data limitations, but more computers than any other sub-capital ship.

Then, I noticed in the last 2 days, threads about private servers and getting rid of PVP from the game popping up.

I'm sitting there reading all this about PVP needs to go, it's not fair, I just want to play with my friends, etc etc. Like, great, here we go with casual carebears ruining another MMORPG.

So casual carebears, whom will leave the game after their first 30 days, are asking for a PVP/PVE toggle, PVE servers, and outright getting rid of PVP.

THEN, I found a thread about private servers. And from the thread discussions, there will be:

    Private servers
    Public servers
    Official Public servers
    PvE servers
    PvP servers
    Capital Ships Only servers
    Sub-Capital Ships Only servers
[Insert another way to split up the playerbase] server

I asked for citations. Yep, it's true. Everybody is going to be spread out across a million different private servers. The casuals support this so they don't have to play with others or PVP, etc.

So, if you think server pop in an MMORPG is important. There ya go.

Those citations were from 2013, but no updates. They are hard to find, as with any important information with this game.

    Kinda mad about it.

It's not because of the $200 I threw at them. Not because of the new SSD I bought this past Saturday, solely for the game. Not the hours of reading and watching videos.

No, I'm mad because I have been waiting over a decade to have a large, OWPVP, sandbox MMORPG that I could get lost in again. Now it's a co-op or single-player game or, MMORPG if you're willing to pay to play on an empty Official server (why would you if there are 100K free ones to play on?)

So, another game I have to move on from. I'm so damn sick of casuals ruining games. I hope you people that care about PVP and challenging MMORPGs start speaking up loudly. I don't know what casuals do or say to devs, but, it's not a joke or something that should be ignored. If you get in an alpha or beta and see some casual thread, stomp it into the mud and make it clear to the devs that little Billy who only plays 2 hours on Saturdays isn't worth more than you.
I saw a PvP server there, you can go get lost in that one.

What I responded posts ago is the last official statement on private servers, they are not part of the current scope of what is to be released. That last statement was in 2016, I fixed the source was a typo, here it is.

It's not easy to provide citations for the full context, but if you follow development, you will see that the current direction of SC is achieving massive MP scale, with upcoming features like the server-mesh.

Links like this or this will provide you some info on the intended MMO scale setup of SC.

Or you can even watch the tech Dual Universe is developing, it's a different game but overall, the same concept on this longer-term goal for SC:

With that I think you will be able to get to the point that the direction of SC currently has years ago moved on from the intent to provide private servers or to dilute the player base (forcing this online PvPvE game-world where players are not given the option to "opt-out/in" of things like PvP or offline mode).

I already explained how it affects me. Private servers dilute the playerbase.

Inre part 1, the topic was about gimmicks and how they are nothing more than bullet points on a webpage. And even gimmicks already in the game can disappear without explanation.

But you knew that already, didn't ya?
What I know is that you are a li'l complainer.

"no" they don't dilute the playerbase. They offer players a way to create game play experiences that will keep them playing. For example: People disliking pvp aren't going to stay in a game for long that has pvp. Some will stay away because they just hate that community, some might try it and a few "might" stay.

That's like saying "alternate servers dilute the playerbase." As opposed to them offering more choice and bringing in more money for the developers provided they figured out their monetization.

(but as people are pointing out there are no private servers at this time so you are good)

The issue here is that you are hurt because you didn't figure out that a game in development could very well change. You put money into the game, found something that you liked to do (boarding people's ships and taking them with your ship) and now that is no longer an option you are complaining.

Had you actually did some thinking you wouldn't have given any money into the game and would have waited to see what the final product was.

These "gimmicks" were ideas that were talked about, implemented/discarded all in the development process. Developers should be able to do that.

I do realize that developers rely upon making people excited for their game; after all, they want people to buy into it so they can develop it. But it's up to players to go into these projects with open eyes and realize that "in development" means in development.

    You just didn't do that.

My issue isn't about where on the list private servers are at, but the fact that there will be private servers. Even Lando states that within 10 seconds of that link you provided.

Thanks for all that other info, I guess, but...uhhh.
You kinda derped me out on your response to Kyleran though...

So, as private servers were on day-1 scope of SC (as seen on KS page https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cig/star-citizen )

And as SC has moved on to full MMO and de-prioritized private servers up to a point it's something they'll just consider at some point after the game itself is released.

You then just said that you would have ignored this game if you knew there were going to be private servers. So I'm not getting this, have you just learned that private servers were one of the things pitched for SC?

In any way, I don't think there's anything to worry about this, if already when they said that and cut them from the scope of what they want to release it already bothered very few people, I very much doubt there will ever be enough demand to make them consider it after SC releases. And I'm cool with that because I very much prefer the current direction that focuses on the MP scale of the game without segregation.

This stands as the official information that has not been contradicted since, and in the wording, it also gets clear it's also a "may or may not happen" because it will and logically so, depending on demand for such feature after the game releases.

@rodarin there you go, now feel free to keep on ranting about how an online persistent game is not fully finished.

The game is a work in progress and keeps changing. This has been the case for years. Most veteran backers have learned by now that the game consists of an imaginary list of features, and there's no way to tell which ones will make it into the final release.

I suggest saving yourself some stress and accepting the fact that you have no control over what features will end up being in the game. Just cross your fingers and hope for the best.

3.2 . Cmon dude it's plastered all over the internet, this forum thread included lol

Besides if you check comments on those links commenta you'll noticed mixed coments of persistency working for some and not others.

That was because of several reasons to server crashes and people quiting without using sleeping beds in ships.

Today servers are much more stable and persistency is a thing. Not that really matters because every progress is wiped with new major patches.

You're only reading what you want to read. That isn't the issue at all.

    They could have said,

"Hey guys, I'm sure you logged in today and noticed that your docking collar is missing from your ship. No, we did not leave it out with plans to put it in later. We took it out because we can't get docking collars to work. And we feel that leaving your ship and floating through space towards another ship to board, is way cooler than docking with another ship"

    But no, they posted nothing.

ok now that is legit and agree. That talks to their level of Customer Service and "for some reason" developers "for the most part" can't seem to get that together.

I suppose there could be the argument that there are so many changes that they can't write a paragraph to every one of them but perhaps that would appear in patch notes (?)

    I don't know, man.

I think it's cool that they are on various platforms reaching out to people about the game, but it's too time consuming to sift through it all for the chance that somebody could potentially make an off-the-cuff comment that may or may not impact the game in a big way.

I'm not the one with answers. But, it would be nice if information was consolidated or centralized on their website so that anyone looking for information about any of the game mechanics or features can find it there on their website instead of elsewhere.

If you take their forums for an example. There are sections. Each section have tags of each game feature, or close to it. Somebody there is in charge of that game feature. Why not post and sticky news or updates to that specific game feature under the appropriate section and tag? They do with some stuff.

Anything is better than sifting through 6 years of content for an off-the-cuff comment that may or may not have an impact on the game.

Further, look at this resent demo about Focused Hearing. There is more information about Focused Hearing than Hired NPCs or computer mods being able to run your ship turrets.

While I find Focus Hearing "Neat", shouldn't I be able to get just as much info and demos of Hired NPCs or Modules etc? I think so. You may disagree with that. But, I just find some features more important than others. And I have to watch the video even though I don't care about Focused Hearing right now, because who knows if someone makes an off-the-cuff statement like "We scrapped the A2 Herc bombs because we couldn't get them to work". See the problem with this?

I don't see why they can't do it in "text" form and people can find what they are interested in.

The idea of watching a video for changes, in development, seems way too cumbersome.
