Big Names Headline New Squadron 42 Trailer - MMORPG.com

During Star Citizen - CitizenCon, a brand new trailer was released for the single-player portion of the game, Squadron 42. It is headlined by some mighty powerful actors including Gillian Anderson, Mark Hamill, Mark Strong, Gary Oldman and Henry Cavill.

They just record scenes of the game and roll it on a trailer, several scenes there like the Mark Hamill part and that prisoner on steroids are from the gameplay walkthrough shown last year (most of the SQ42 is cinematic but not as the pre-rendered video that plays out, the actual scene renders live while you're moving around and such).

My excit will depend on their roadmap. If they announce a date no later than mid 2019 I’ll be excited. If they announce something that is still years away we’ll then they can stick the trailer where the sun doesn’t shine.

I  think the game mechanics, especially AI and such will need a long phase of polish, even if the features, the content and such all there, there is a reason why devs tend to say the last phases are very labor intensive.

And as SQ42 doesn't fit the alpha/beta release, I don't think it'll make it in 2019, try mid-late 2020, perhaps they could release a playable demo of a side-mission type of content like with the vertical slice

I don't see this game releasing anytime soon. About a month ago they had a free weekend so I jumped in. I couldn't even get to the ship because the performance was horrible.

Oh like we aren't used, especially from AAA devs with the most anticipated titles, to thing like one trailer a year, for years in a row.

There's ofc the common titles kept under wraps then announced, but with SQ42 we've seen it from its very raw form, that 2015 first footage if you remember.

The new update releasing soon as it's already on testing is the biggest performance update to the game yet, the game won't demand 16GB of RAM for decent performance, and if you have things like SSD you're going to finally get good playability.  

After 3.3 is the right time for free flights to happen because with the performance up until now the majority of who tried couldn't cope with it.

I don't understand the excitement. If a few big names make your game an instant success, why don't all studios hire them? Mark Hamill I can understand he was in Wing Commander. Sorry I can't help it, but it feels like a bait and switch. Give your backers a shiny trailer instead of an actual game. Why does it need a trailer at this stage? They got plenty of money and there is no releasedate.

Game is taking too long and costing too much, support is taking a hit. They the powers that be need to come up with a release date. SQ-42

I had no idea Henry Cavill (that actor that been doing superman) was part of SQ42 too, just posted about it:

I lost all respect for Hamill after he backpedaled on Luke's character being trashed in TLJ.

lol, every game dev in this planet can do trailers of their game, CIG can without being the "devil".

And several parts of that trailers were on the gameplay walkthrough demo they did of SQ42, so what exactly misrepresents SQ42 there? Or is it just the fact "how evil CIG dares to do trailers to hype their product before it gets released"?

well only one game come to my mind on how long it did take to be made, duke nukem forever, and we know how that goes

Even the upcoming Beyond Good and Evil 2 is already reaching 10 years, but irrelevant to my response to hyperbole hater statements like SQ42 can't have a proper trailer before the game is released (like it just did!), as it is standard everywhere, with or without a release date.

Gotta pick something to hate on, wasn't this an SC thread.

The fact the game is crowdfunded does not change the reality of game dev, you don't want to give money to games years before the game is released and/or don't want to endure through delays it's simple: Don't crowdfund games!

Squadron 42 is deff going to be big on Top Gun vibe already, it already comes from Wing Commander, don't need Tom Cruise for that  lol
