I got it last week. No doubt a great game overall but honestly, I think its overrated. Definitely not game of the year IMO. Still playing since its still new (and still fun overall), but just the sluggish controls alone make me want to turn it off after a short session. Coming from the near flawless responsive controls of Spider Man just makes it even worse. Even pausing the game feels slower than it should be. Having to baby-step your way across camp (and other areas) doesnt help at all. I dont know, maybe it plays better on a Pro or an X1/X?

Also im not too happy about the forced bounty. Yes, you play an outlaw, but the fact many of these required story missions force a price on your head you were not expecting is also annoying (covering your face before committing crimes is useless apparently). Specially when you just spent most of your money on camp upgrades and maintenance.

Is there even a point to keeping those useless bastards well fed? Camp full of hardened criminals, even some natives, yet it falls to Arthur to keep them fed, armed and medicated.

    <SPOILER>I wouldve rather shot Micah.</SPOILER>

Also I dont know about the rest of the consoles but on PS4 the sound is LOOOW. I have to triple my TVs usual volume just to be able to hear the dialogue (yes, I tried different game settings).

/shrug... Ive ranted enough. Im a couple missions in after the second camp, 20% or so (hope that wasnt too spoilerish) and its kinda starting to get to me. Thats coming from a guy who couldnt put PS3 RDR down until the very end.

I bought it and I like what I've experienced so far, but I'm still too wrapped up in AC Odyssey to dig too deep into it yet.

I will not pay for multiplayer on a console.  Not that I don't like consoles.  I just don't like being legally robbed.
The game is well worth the price for the story, you dont even need to have played rdr. I was not robbed and the multiplayer part isnt even released yet.
I suspect that @Jemcrystal is talking about paying the XBox Live sub needed to take part in the multi-player. And whilst it doesn't cost much and comes with games and music each to their own - legally robbed is a little strong imo though.

The game itself is released as a single player game and they have clearly priced it as a single player game. And whilst the multi-player stuff - whatever that turns out to be - will have cost them money to make they will have assumed that these costs will be recovered through extra sales and whatever.

If it like GTA 5 it will be selling currency.

    I bought it today.

No, not for me, don't be silly, (PC Master Race Only) my son has a PS4 and it's what he wanted for his BD.

You are a good father. Should give a try yourself - never let your race stop you from having fun! ;)
Unfortunately I'm "controller" handicapped, having never used one I have no abilty to do so with any reasonable competence.

I mean, like "A" button? "B" button? Where are the damn function keys? Oh yeah, why the hell do I have to hold this thing all time?

    ;)

    Never used a controller?
I have to say, while I've used one I've never really stuck with any game that required one as they feel awkward. When I was young this was a controller:

    or this:

I find them difficult. I've been practicing with the swtich controller with Zelda, Breath of the Wild as my girlfriend likes Zelda but neither of us is any good at it.

Hah I swore them off after trying to play Halo on the Xbox sooo long ago. . recently I have been playing Lego games with my son (Steambox to TV) and now I have no issues. . I can't believe I am saying that.

I hated games designed for controllers but now I imagine I would use one for RDR2 on PC. . cause it will come.  I hate myself a little bit.

I grew up on the joystick and paddle (Kaboom!).  But these new controllers have too many buttons for an old fart like me.  I can barely use the extra buttons on my mouse...
I was excited to hear that Xbox is adding mouse keyboard support.  I don't have a current gen console but assumed it would be a PS4. . now with gamepass and keyboard mouse support it would be an XBOX. . . man. . still hating myself . .

When it comes to pc I will be playing it with aim assist off and m/k. I dont get far with a controller and no assist aim in R* games. :(
How is the ps4 m&k does it require games to be built for it or can it be plugged in and used on any game?

He says he has never used one. It's in his first sentence.
Perhaps back when consoles were called N-64 or Genesis, but even then not much,  games Sonic,  Mario or even Mortal Combat held no interest.

I've never played anything with controllers in the style of the original XBox or Playstations up thru the present.

I'll blame my son, from age 8 thru 24 he did most of his gaming on a PC.  I recall buying an XBox at one time but he rarely used it.

A year or so back he asked for a PS4 for his birthday and since then does all his gaming on it.

This change in habits is likely related to the fact I've long since stopped buying him a gaming PC which I used to do when he was younger.

I turn on aim assist in everything because I suck.
I never play shooters because I never knew they have an aim assist feature.

I don't like settings, story is not that great, game is hilariously easy (godmode and faceroll through all), but at least i could watch some nice graphics - I consider this buy as a mistake imo but online play may be way to go

Exactly! Once controllers got more than 4 buttons (easily accessed by the right thumb) and more than 1 directional control, I could no longer use them effectively. Think anything past SNES controllers ;)

My thumb also does [NOT] move at odd angles. When I tell my thumb, "Go straight ahead.", a controller makes me go straight AND to the left, at some odd 85 degree angle, instead of 90 degrees. I cannot, for the life of me, run my Madden NFL player down the field next to the sideline without going out of bounds at some point.

I'm not sure who controllers were designed for, but certainly not human beings ;)

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

I haven't been playing many games of late, but I'd rather wait and see if it comes out on the PC like GTA V did.  I'm not a big fan of having to have multiple devices for different purposes.  Even worse is that the consoles aren't backwards compatible in many cases.  The current generation of consoles seems to make more remasters of good old games than it does creating creatingand selling new games that are good.  There seems to be a severe issue with developers being able to create fun games in this latest generation of consoles.  I know Xbox added support for backwards compatibility for some games and Sony has PS Now (which costs you monthly or yearly).  I'd rather stick with the PC.  I can use it as a console with controller companion or a desktop/work environment with a wireless keyboard/touchpad.  I enjoyed the first Red Dead Redemption game a lot, but it never came out on PC.  Hopefully, this one will.
