"they aren't in touch with their players" is just true.

No one in their current fan-base was asking for a phone Diablol

And as for WoW Classic, that news was just disappointing. Part of the $15 sub?! Nope. Not for a 14 year old game. It should be $15 a month for live, $5 a month for classic, and $18 a month for the bundle of the two. That way they could use the hot marketing term 'bundle' and for both you would be saving $2 a month by bundling.

They missed it with both of those.

The only thing good I think was Warcraft 3 HD. Everything else was a wash in my opinion.

They may or may not be in touch with their fan base but I don't think the "No one in their current fan-base was asking for a phone Diablo" is the correct statement.

More like "they want to expand their fan base so they created a game on mobile to do so."

The two are not mutually exclusive...
That's true. I mean, how do we really know that "no one asked for it?"

It’s not meant literally... that no single human ever asked for it. I mean , technically the guy who authorized the project asked for it.

I think the point is that there was no groundswell of their community that was asking for it.
Your correct. But I do think they are looking to expand into mobile and what better way than to get some people in your customer base to try the game, love the game (they hope) and spread the word?

Because, again, as I mentioned above, isn't that partly what happened with World of Warcraft? People played the real time strategy games, they became interested, they might have brought some friends into it so there was a small core of people and then they advertised the crap out of it and got "everyone else."

That was back when Blizzard was actively developing Warcraft.  It was only two years after Warcraft 3 released, and one year after the Warcraft 3 expansion.  Blizzard hadn't all-but-abandoned the beloved franchise for half a decade before releasing WoW (and it was announced during the same time WC3 franchise was actively being developed and already announced).  That's likely both why they didn't get the backlash from Warcraft fans and why the IPs popularity translated into hype.

What Blizzard misread was how wildly out of control people's expectations would be at Blizzcon, which they attempted to temper by releasing an annoucement just before to try and rein people in but was unsuccessful.

They haven't mislead anyone if they really have several other Diablo games in the work, but players probably need to let go of their speculations until Blizzard is ready to share.

Not surprising Activision stock took a bit of a dive, no doubt dumped by either investors who made the same miscalculation as gamers did, or just a dump in retaliation by butthurt and petulant fans.

Blizzard will weather the storm and likely continue to rake in the cash and this kerfuffle will quickly fade into the past.

stop blaming gamers, it was an error on blizzards part. It's a franchise with a primarily pc fanbase. They hyped up diablo as their center piece only to announce a mobile game. That's like bethesda's fallout 4 reveal actually turning out to be fallout shelter and nothing else. It's a result of being out of touch with thier fans. Read mark kern's twitter if you want the best description of what happened. Now stop being a shill.

He's not a shill. I agree with him.

It was an error on their part. People will live another day to play the diablo game of their choice. No one died because of that announcement.

And if I'm a shill as well then "great" let me know when I'm going to get my paycheck since you know so much! B)

Lol Kyleran the shill.. wtf ..

And its funny how people want to ignore the fact that Blizz is part of Activision who also own King (Candy Crush  etc.. )    ATVI entered this mobile market in 2015 and has a part to play here in having Blizz expand D3 to mobile , most likely to increase Blizz MAU numbers as they were lowest in stable last year ..

Lol,and Mark Kern .. really hes been upset and butthurt at Blizz since they chased him out , then REd 5 chased him outa Firefall ..... He needs to get a job ..

Red 5 was bought out. Mark kern puts players before investors, which is why all of the thigns he worked on at blizz, in high positions mind you, are their best products. (Ex: Vanilla wow, diablo 2, WCIII:TFT, SC and BW, etc) He left blizzard to create a studio, he wasn't chased out and left on amicable terms which have deteriorated. The article about him from The9 seems like corporate sponsored bs. Many former red5 employees will attest to the cut throat actions of the BoD.

PoE still is the way to go for hardcore hack-n-slash fans for years to come. D3 for me was a play-once-put-on-the-shelve-and-move-on game.

He was fired erhmm(mutaully removed) Fired from Blizz .. and then removed from Red 5 after all his debacles there , here is a picture of the 3 million dollar Firefall bus he signed off on that was delivered late and missing parts .. mgu-body-image
The board of directors of Firefall developer Red 5 Studios has voted to remove co-founder Mark Kern from his role as chief executive officer, according to an email sent to Red 5 employees and obtained by Game Front.

According to the email sent by Vice President of Development James Macauley, the board voted to remove Kern as CEO “effectively immediately,” as well as from his position on the board. Kern will “no longer have any authority to act for or on behalf of Red 5 Studios.”

In the email, Macauley assures employees that he and other management staff at the company “will continue to be here to serve and support each of you,” but also acknowledges that “this is a major change for our company,” without going into further detail about what might change at the studio.

Kinda odd how you never hear Mark Kerns name any longer unless Blizz has some kind of slip up or drama , This latest ex(Immortal), and Nos .. Otherwise hes non existent..

He was not fired/mutally removed he left to help form a studio. Saying otherwise is blind speculation and contrary to the many wow devs who worked with him. That being said the bus was a bad move in every sense and screams of a guy whose ego got to big for his own britches. Again he was removed for wanting to rework elements to be more player oriented rather than monetization oriented. I'll see if i can find it, but he had wanted to make firefall p2p. However the board members wanted f2p with Micro-transactions. He worked for player agency and was punished by corporate for that.

The Original quotes in that article are taken from the one by The9. Again no names are given and it sounds like corperate bs. And look at red5 now. Its grave i mean. Kicking your idea guy may not have been the best... well idea.

I think we're asserting points that, as Slap alluded to, aren't mutually exclusive.

Speaking of strcitly dollars and cents, Immortal is inevitable.  From the more human viewpoint of fan loyalty and artistry, Immortal was a huge gaffe for Blizzard at a rather inopportune time considering the woes of their latest WoW expansion.
