In Verbis Virtus - $5 - You play a mage and cast spells by speaking instead of button mashing. Pretty neat so far. It's pretty funny when you're being attacked and keep messing up your spells because of panic. It gives you a new appreciation for the spell interrupt mechanics of old RPGs.
Divinity Original Sin collector's edition - $14 - You get two copies( 1 for you; 1 to gift) and the older games in the Divinity series.
Dark Souls 2 - $10 - I figure I have to play the rest of the series at some point. You can't just keep coming up with new and innovative ways to die to DS1 bosses forever.

Each steam sale gets repulsively worst, I miss the days flash sales would actually be an amazing deal. Deals these days are more akin to a deal on greenmangaming or other resellers on a normal day.
I couldn't agree more. This is exactly what I've been saying for the past couple of years.
The last decent Steam Sale I can remember was in 2014.
I don't see any difference between this sale and others, there is some big savings. I picked up Jurassic World Evolution for 13 bucks -75% off and the South Park's second game for -75% off..
I was thinking of getting Ark, but after reading about the whole Atlas thing, I decided to not give the dev my money. I'll hold off and if Atlas is good, i'll play that.
The only thing im looking at getting so far is Project Gorgon.

So far, Distance has been amazing. When is the last time you can say you've played a racing game for the narrative? It has an aesthetic that's really hard to define; somewhere in the suburbs of Tron, with a little more space influence, and this weird horror overtone.

Not everyone has the same buying and playing patterns. Personally I often buy single player games which have actual endings, and I play them until I get to that ending. I've got 40 games in my steam library, and I've finished about 15 of them and put a lot of hours into 5 more that don't have actual endings. So that's a 50% 'successful play' rate.
I want to help design and develop a PvE-focused, solo-friendly, sandpark MMO which combines crafting, monster hunting, and story. So PM me if you are starting one.

I've bought a few games that were cheap and it ended up being a waste. So I will only buy games that I intend to play usually at the time or I know i'll play it in between my PoE.

It was between that, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Arma 3 and Divinity Original Sin 2 enhanced edition. But I ended up with MHW since I felt like for now, I'd get the most hours out of it. I'll pick up kingdom come/divinity for another sale. Arma 3 I won't be getting, since my friend doesn't want to get it, so wouldn't be nearly as fun as arma 2 was for us.

Winter Steam Sale is here, i held off buying anything over Thanksgiving because I was waiting for the winter sale. What you guys are gonna pick up or have picked up. Maybe I can get some ideas.
I'm looking at: Project Gorgon (The Demo actually worked on me and i'm interested to see how the skills work at higher levels) No Man's Sky (probably hold off on) Civilization 6 (Even though I think Civ V is better and I play that)

Civ 6 is so-so...
It's very on-rails-ish, which is weird for a Civ game. Lots of moving parts that I never have to interact with. It's more... do I want option A, B, or C (presented to me neatly by my several advisors)?
Civ 3 was the last one in the series I played, and this feels far less sandboxy although it has great production value.

I picked up a pair of games that have been on my wish list for ages. Stellar Monarch and Supreme Ruler: The Great War. I wanted to see SM because it is much more an empire management game without (mostly) all the micromanagement of other titles. SR:TGW, well, I'm a sucker for WWI and massive wargames.
I'll still manage to kick No Man's Sky around a bit, although that is getting a bit repetitive.

How they heck do you have 5,700 games in your library? I mean, you've probably only played a few hundred i'm assuming? What's your total hours played? Holy bejeezus . . . You're like a hoarder but of digital games.
I've played maybe 40% of my library. I mainly PC game so all my gaming time is basically on Steam minus MMO stints I go on. I buy way more than I play and a lot of it is due to how crazy cheap bundles are.

I wish I could take the credit for that however I have steam friends that have over 15,000 games. If you look at a leaderboard there's a ton that exist. so honestly on the grand scale of things I'm in the top tier but no where near the ridiculousness of some.

The thing about cheap and free games is that there is a limit on time.
You see a game you like and its is like down 90% and you're like, sweet, i'll buy it for $3. But the problem is, the more games you do that, you inherently decrease your overall utilization of the product.
I see myself, I bought Darkest Dungeon at $7 evne though i bought it once and refunded it already, i bought it again in a PoE lull. I've also bought other games for $2-3 knowing that the likelihood I play it is remote.
It's like hoarders, the more stuff you keep and store, the less likely you are to use the next subsequent thing you hold and hoard.
So many times there are cheap or free games I may be interested but I won't buy it (at least I try to) because there's always a limit on time. I can only play so many games.
That's the main reason why I probably won't buy No Man's Sky even though I heard about it and I want to try it. I doubt i'll ever get around to playing it. Why buy Civ 6 when I am enjoying Civ 5. Plus, I can only get periodically addicted to Civ V and not really play it too much.
Even Project Gorgon, but I kind of think the game has nice features and I surprisingly don't overly care about the shit graphics. It's such a deep game with their skills.
However, I am interested in playing ark: Evolved, but If I buy it now, i'm not sure i'll even play it any time soon. My game time is like this.
Play PoE when season comes out . . . die a bunch and quit . . . until next PoE season starts. Hence, I only have a small window to play other games. Usually, I'll default to Civ 5, get a bit bored there. Play some Entropia (a.k.a lose money) . . . for a bit and then i have small window to try out other games.

With a backlog of cheap but notably great games in my Steam library, many purchased last year but never opened, I can't possibly see buying anything else.
The entire Witcher series, Endless Space, Cross of Iron IV, Elite Dangerous, Conan Exiles, Legends of Grimrock 2, Prison Architect, Massive Chalice, 7 Days to Die, Civ 5, Total Warhammer and XCom 2 which apparently includes several DLC packs as well.
Never mind I want to go back and put more time into NMS, (only 175 hrs so far), continue playing FO76, (reached level "22" last evening, many are up in the 100's), and my friends (yes, I actually have some) want me to join them on a new DAOC freeshard starting in January.
I should also go back to Skyrim (88 hrs), Fallout 3, FO NV (180 hrs) and FO4 (1200 hrs) and try playing them with Mods, something I've never done before.
Oh yes, and now Bethesda is "giving" me 3 early Fallout titles so I can go back and "enjoy" them once again. As if my backlog could even consider such.
Busy, busy, busy, where will I find the time?

No I think I'll have to pass on future Steam sales, even if the games are being sold for next to free.
I guess Destiny 2 was given away for free recently on one of the new launchers, and free games are going to be given away monthly. Can't even consider signing up for such a thing, it would likely destroy my soul.
Like you noted, each new game added to the backlog almost cheapens the experiences one can have, unless of course you are the type of person (a "hopper") that rarely "finishes" games and has no desire to.
Maybe instead of buying good games I should pick up crappy ones or those I am certain to dislike.

I just finished Odyssey @ 142 hours played. For me it was an awesome game and one of the few I actually finish these days.
Shadows of War for $12.49 is a heck of a deal, especially if you enjoyed the first one.
