I picked up Yakuza 0 since I loved Shenmue from Dreamcast Days, and this looks awesome, also a Steam Controller for half off, cause I just got a Steam Link for my birthday. I was thinking of Monster Hunter World but not sure yet.
There was a sale on Games Workshop games a few months back, I bought every game they had on steam.. I have yet to finish a single one.. got a few hours into each.. tho.. so I am plucking away at them.
Blood Bowl 2 is a hoot!

Each steam sale gets repulsively worst, I miss the days flash sales would actually be an amazing deal. Deals these days are more akin to a deal on greenmangaming or other resellers on a normal day. But with over 5,700 games in my library Steam is actually doing me a favor.
How they heck do you have 5,700 games in your library? I mean, you've probably only played a few hundred i'm assuming? What's your total hours played? Holy bejeezus . . . You're like a hoarder but of digital games.
I've played maybe 40% of my library. I mainly PC game so all my gaming time is basically on Steam minus MMO stints I go on. I buy way more than I play and a lot of it is due to how crazy cheap bundles are.

I wish I could take the credit for that however I have steam friends that have over 15,000 games. If you look at a leaderboard there's a ton that exist. so honestly on the grand scale of things I'm in the top tier but no where near the ridiculousness of some.
I wasn't going to buy anything this sale, but then my holiday bonus came in so I got a couple things.
I picked up Soul Calibur VI finally and am addicted to it, I played like 9 hours the first day I got it. But I also have way too much fun playing ranked matches in fighting games, so that really helped. I also picked up a copy of Golf with Friends for me and my girlfriend and we had quite a bit of fun with that. I also picked up Insurgency Sandstorm for me and a buddy, love that game too.

So we gotta know, have all those titles been worth your money??
In hindsight nope, it's a disease. Impulse buying in the digital age. Big Yikes

The thing about cheap and free games is that there is a limit on time.
You see a game you like and its is like down 90% and you're like, sweet, i'll buy it for $3. But the problem is, the more games you do that, you inherently decrease your overall utilization of the product.
I see myself, I bought Darkest Dungeon at $7 evne though i bought it once and refunded it already, i bought it again in a PoE lull. I've also bought other games for $2-3 knowing that the likelihood I play it is remote.
It's like hoarders, the more stuff you keep and store, the less likely you are to use the next subsequent thing you hold and hoard.
So many times there are cheap or free games I may be interested but I won't buy it (at least I try to) because there's always a limit on time. I can only play so many games.
That's the main reason why I probably won't buy No Man's Sky even though I heard about it and I want to try it. I doubt i'll ever get around to playing it. Why buy Civ 6 when I am enjoying Civ 5. Plus, I can only get periodically addicted to Civ V and not really play it too much.
Even Project Gorgon, but I kind of think the game has nice features and I surprisingly don't overly care about the shit graphics. It's such a deep game with their skills.
However, I am interested in playing ark: Evolved, but If I buy it now, i'm not sure i'll even play it any time soon. My game time is like this.
Play PoE when season comes out . . . die a bunch and quit . . . until next PoE season starts. Hence, I only have a small window to play other games. Usually, I'll default to Civ 5, get a bit bored there. Play some Entropia (a.k.a lose money) . . . for a bit and then i have small window to try out other games.

I'm nominating your post for "Most insightful" for 2018.
With a backlog of cheap but notably great games in my Steam library, many purchased last year but never opened, I can't possibly see buying anything else.
The entire Witcher series, Endless Space, Cross of Iron IV, Elite Dangerous, Conan Exiles, Legends of Grimrock 2, Prison Architect, Massive Chalice, 7 Days to Die, Civ 5, Total Warhammer and XCom 2 which apparently includes several DLC packs as well.
Never mind I want to go back and put more time into NMS, (only 175 hrs so far), continue playing FO76, (reached level "22" last evening, many are up in the 100's), and my friends (yes, I actually have some) want me to join them on a new DAOC freeshard starting in January.
I should also go back to Skyrim (88 hrs), Fallout 3, FO NV (180 hrs) and FO4 (1200 hrs) and try playing them with Mods, something I've never done before.
Oh yes, and now Bethesda is "giving" me 3 early Fallout titles so I can go back and "enjoy" them once again. As if my backlog could even consider such.
Busy, busy, busy, where will I find the time?
Rather, "I should live so long."
No I think I'll have to pass on future Steam sales, even if the games are being sold for next to free.
I guess Destiny 2 was given away for free recently on one of the new launchers, and free games are going to be given away monthly. Can't even consider signing up for such a thing, it would likely destroy my soul.
Like you noted, each new game added to the backlog almost cheapens the experiences one can have, unless of course you are the type of person (a "hopper") that rarely "finishes" games and has no desire to.
Maybe instead of buying good games I should pick up crappy ones or those I am certain to dislike.
That way after I set them aside after a few hours I'll consider them "finished" and can move on to a new title.
Nah, probably not.
I never know a game is crappy till after I play it.
I have loved the hell out of games that, you would think would give my cat cancer by the hate and vitriol in the reviews.

Well, at least you're not paying full price for them all. You mention you purchase them at heavily discounted rates in bundles, so there's a silver lining!
Anyone who love X-COM type combat should be aware that Massive Chalice exists as a fantasy version of this type of combat.
I want to help design and develop a PvE-focused, solo-friendly, sandpark MMO which combines crafting, monster hunting, and story. So PM me if you are starting one.
Apparently Steam has fallen over due to everyone's enthusiasm about the sale. Probably back up by the time you read this, but I found it amusing.

Interesting. X-Com without the tedious, mindless air game is what I'm most interested in, but a fantasy X-Com sounds cool too.
Massive Chalice is so much more than a fantasy X-Com. The graphics are... not the game's strong suit. That stated, the long view is at times awe-inspiring in its ability to generate thoughts about mortality, descendency, and rulership. I know I'll be coming back to it again and again over the years. I just finished the first campaign in Distance, I also dabbled in some of the online play. The former was incredible, the latter I haven't spent much time in but so far so good. Easily the best new game I've played all year. There are no magic guidances helping you steer: if you fly out of bounds (which are large) and explode against a derelict building, you have only your very specific control inputs to blame. The feeling of flipping over and grabbing onto an inverted roadway as the camera pinwheels to follow is similar to how I remember some of my better snowboarding runs in my younger days. The music is an integral part of the game, as I mentioned before. In the later sectors as the time counts down into the red the sense of urgency ramps up and up: will I have enough time to win the game (relentlessly counting down from 4 hours at the start)? The ending is nearly perfect; without giving too much away it's similar to the Sandra Bullock movie Gravity.

I am a scizo misanthrope. So one day I may go BANZAI on your post. Have not yet though. Maybe there is hope? Nah there is really none for me or the human race.
I've been browsing all day. I haven't seen anything that grabbed me by the nose.
Nier would have been an option but it didn't make it in to the sales. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is on my radar and I don't know why. I just bought Rise of the Tomb Raider. Only played it for an hr and uninstalled it so I could make room for other games. I still don't own Witcher 3 so maybe I will pick that up..
Or maybe I will save my monies for Boxing Day hardware deals.
They ended up getting me for $75 Canadian because I am an idiot. I bought the Ultimate edition of Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Being as I have never played an Assassin's Creed game, I could have made due with the base copy but I was in a Yolo mood. I also bought Vegas Movie Studio 14 Platinum Edition for $20 or something but that might not count in this discussion.
Bought Warhammer 40,000 Mechanicus, Dragon Quest XI, Ghost of a Tale, Frost Punk and Deep Sky Derelits and thinking about buying Warhammer Vermitude II.
I really want to play Warhammer Vermintide II, but I'm on the fence about it since it's pretty much co-op only, and honestly, I'm getting sick and fookin tired of dealing with elitist little turd kids who whine about you not doing everything exactly perfect.
Anyone have any experience with the community? Is it pretty chill to join a PUG and have some fun without having to be a grand master, millisecond perfect expert in all parts of the game?

Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent.

Let me put it this way, I don't really care for ARPG's in general and I played through Grim Dawn with three different builds because it was so fun.

'But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.'
Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...
'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'
