I was just wondering the reason most people quit mmorpgs here, so tell us your story of any payed mmorpg that you quit and why
Here are mine:
World of Warcraft-
Basically I went on a reroll-fest.....
+Started with a Nightelf Rogue, found out they were not as optimal in groups at high levels at level 42.
+Rerolled as a Troll Shaman, found out they were really boring to solo with at level 23.
+Rerolled as an Undead Mage, I could not beat a lot of classes in PvP, and regening mana and Hp got exhausting at level 28.
+Rerolled as a Nightelf Warrior, I got to the Stranglethorn Vale quests and could not do them again, tried to grind past them but it got really tedious, my character also looked really lame in the armor at level 33.
+Rerolled as a Nightelf Priest, I really liked this class, but I went Shadow and was only around level 28, so I wanted to reroll as a Dwarf for Fear Ward and do Holy.
+Rerolled as a Dwarf Priest, got to level 20 and wanted to be shadow again, then I wanted to be a Druid because I heard they were easier to level and just as good as a priest.
+Rerolled as a Nightelf Druid, on a different server and leveled to 20, then I realized I wanted it on my old server............at level 22.
+Rerolled as a Nightelf Druid, could not do the Nightelf Starting quests again......level 12
+Rerolled as a Human Paladin, Gnome Warlock, and some other randoms, all under lvl 10..
+Rolled my last character, a Nightelf Hunter, nearly killed myself because of how tedious the beginning of the game was and got to level 23, then taunt stopped working from my pet everytime and it loss a lot of fun value.
+Then rolled like a million other low levels and in an angry rage canceled my subscription and moved on to.......
City of Heroes-
+I leveled my Empathy/Radiation Defender to level 16, then I got really bored of the game, mission after same mission, level after hard earned level..........canceled..and moved on to Final Fantasy XI
Final Fantasy XI-
+Leveled a Thief to level 20 then became a bard, really bad choice and nobody wanted to team with me, so I leveled my White Mage up so I could be a Bard/White Mage which was acceptable but I could not grind Vulkrum Dunes for like 1904809375 3812-571-835713 hours ever again to get to level 20, plus this game had no solo content and the economy was extremely high, so it was not fun getting new equipment, I hate feeling broke T_T. Canceled and moved to........The Garbage...I mean Matrix Online...
The Matrix Online-
+I really liked being a coder and getting new items, but the combat system in this game was really terrible, and the mission were like clones of City of Heroes. Canceled and moved to ..........
Everquest 2-
+Leveled a level 20 Mystic in a really cool guild but the loading times for zones finally drove me absolutely insane....sometimes I would log into the game and just sit in my room on my bed and /shiver for hours.............. really really good game other than that, which makes me sad.....Canceled with a sigh and moved on to...
Guild Wars-
+Leveled a Monk/Elem to 20 in the initial rush and never felt like doing RP again, so I just PvPed for a while and got angry when I would keep my team fully healed for like 15 minutes only to get flawlessed at the end. PvP relied heavily on getting a good team, as in good players AND builds. GvG and the Hall of Heroes took too long to be fun for me.........but its free so I still log every once in a while for a few matches.....moved on to......
Next I went into a fit of downloading every free mmorpg on the internet, and even plummeted into the void of a mmorpg that is Runescape.....this included....
Rose Online
Ragnorok Online ( lots of e-mail accts)
Irth Online
Dark Ages of Camelot
O2Jam
Kal Online
RYL:The Whatever to the Whatever...
Maple Story
Gunz Online
GUnbound
Flyff
Various Open and Closed Betas, plus some really bad browser games....
Then I officially went insane from good MMORPG Deprived syndrome and started playing Counterstrike and KOTOR to fill the void, but it wasnt the same......
And I suppose you had hoped that maybe this story had a happy ending and I finally found the right mmorpg, but it doesnt really..... I am playing Anarchy Online to keep my sanity, so far its really cool, one of the first mmorpgs that I have played that actually has an interesting story, besides Guild Wars....
the gameplay reminds me a lot of KOTOR (Knights of the Old Republic).... I have also restarted going outside and seeing.....people....again.... I had given up my addiction to Dance Dance Revolution, but that came back from my abscence from the fantasy world.
Now I dream, dream of the day that some really amazing mmorpg comes and swipes me off my feet, and gently kisses my..............I mean....keeps me up night after night......I mean gives me that feeling that all of these games did in the beginning, except it never goes away..
I hope this odd guide/story helps you in some way, whether it be in picking an mmorpg or just causing a laugh.....
Currently I am looking forward to beta testing Dark and Light, Dungeons and Dragons Online, and some other new games.....If there are some games I have not tried I can when I turn 18 and get my own credit card because my mom got sick of putting her number in, especially after all that trouble to unsubscribe to the Matrix Online...
Hope to game with you someday in an MMORPG, not once was I ever called a noob in a negative way so it will be an enjoyable experience for both of us ^_^....Happy Adventures

Like, I kept gaining levels, and it never stopped.

All my friends were better than me.
Never had any other bad experiences.
Combat Upgrades.. grr..
scientology
The first MMOrpg I played I think (if memory serves) was Asheron's Call. Did the whole grind/power leveling to get so some of the more challanging content, and, started getting tired of the fantasy repetition, longed for some good Sci-Fi action.
I dropped that account and beta'd Eve-Online, but got extremely bored with the beta and decided not to get the game. So I heard about this game, Earth and Beyond, went and checked it out, played for about 2, maybe 3 months, but the game was just too limited for my tastes, so again I moved on.
Next on the horizon was Anarchy Online, which I have to admit, I enjoyed for a long time, over a year. Due to financial restraints at the time, I had to leave that game. Probably would have stayed with it a while longer if it wheren't for that. Once that was straightened out, I went back on the search for a MMOrpg I could play. I wanted to play with some of my real life friends, and one was playing City of Hero's, so I got it, installed it, and after 3 months or so, the unique effect wore off as there was no player economy, no pvp, and really all you could do was have costume contests or grind out levels.
Alright, so toss that one out the window. Another friend was playing Star Wars Galaxy. Even though I protested anything associated with Lucas Arts after Star Wars Episode 2, I agree'd to join my friend. That didn't last too long. He left, I got bored, and well, that was that, another dull ending.
Alright, so the super hyped WoW came into existance, my friend was all pumped about it, got me pumped about it, and on day 1 we where in and lobbin heads any way we could. I did the whole Nightelf Rogue thing, became one of the most notorious rogues around, but got very dissapointed at the high end content and the fact that rogues where a dime a dozen so I rerolled an Undead Mage (this is about 2 months in or so). Again, I leveled the heck out of that character, wanted to get back up to the 50s+ where my rogue was before deleting him. So I got into my mid 50's and again, started to get bored. I think I started spending more time in towns just chattin with friends or selling enchanting services then anything else. Did pvp alot for the first few weeks that the new honor system patch came out, got a high ranking, killed alot of alliance, died a few times, but for what? No real satisfaction or reward other then just sayin "yeah, I killed them".
Alright, so the Sci Fi itch was creepin back up. I enjoy fantasy, but I feel my Sci Fi itch has never been properly scratched. Oh, forgot, also beta tested Planet Side....nuff on that one. Ok, so Sci Fi, I need a Sci Fi fix. Decided to check out Eve Online again after trolling around and not finding anything better. It's been improved greatly but loosing everything you own to player pirates is a bit nuts, so I'm still sitting in a dock trying to train up all my skills to be able to compete with those that have been in game for a year or more. So I log in when a skill is about to finish training, pick a new skill, say hi to friends and then log out.
Ok, so what to do while that is going on.......well, I decided to check out the hyped Guild Wars. I still play from time to time, but don't feel as dissapointed since I'm not paying a monthly subscription. Ascended 3 characters now and about the only thing that I do now is run UW or FoW for kicks.
Ok, now what? While I anxiously await the release of Auto Assault, I'm still looking for my niche. I tried getting back into Anarchy Online, but just couldn't get back into it. For me, it was hard starting over from scratch again when I had 2 lvl 150+ characters, one being a fixer in GA3 and QL 200 implants/weapons. Even supprised people with a Trox Doc I made that turned heads. (sold my orrigional account hehe)
I would really want to see a good sci-fi game that has the ability to keep it's customers enticed no matter how high level they get. I'm sick of the fantasy band wagon. Give me lasers, give me computer hacking, give me borgs, robots and pin point beam satelite systems, oh my!. With all the great minds out there, and all the great sci fi games of past (Cyber Punk, Shadow Run) doesn't anyone have the ability to come up with a kick butt, break out of the mold, awesome, drool enspiring sci fi mmorpg???
I remember playing Shadow Run on the sega genesis (and the pen and paper version). That has been the ONLY game that I played from start to finish about 3 times in a row playing from different aspects. Even though the game never changed from the first time til the last time I went through it, it never lost my attention. I would eat, sleep, and talk nothing but Shadow Run.
I've also played games like Ragnorok Online, but it was just too childish for me, and there are others I can't even remember.
I crave for a Shadow Run, or Cyber Punk online game. Neocron was a nice try (didn't actually subscribe, did the test of it) but didn't have that Cyber Punk feel. That to me seemed more like a blade runner type game.
Car wars was the very first RPG I ever played on a computer. (commador 64 days) And from all I've read, Auto Assault is trying to create that feel in a more modern graphical interface. If this is true, I think I can be happy with that game for a long time to come. At least until someone finally makes a Shadow Run Online.
For me mostly friends leaving. Had typed a full post about my history, but boss came around the corner and had to hit the panic button
"If all magic fails, rely on three feet of steel and a strong arm"
Eve - Combat became far too gate based, with gank setups everywhere due to modules without penalties. Most of my other concerns have been fixed with the cold war patch.
Vendetta - Lack of stuff to do, but it has been improving a lot recently.
GW - taking a bit of a break atm, spirit spam and air spikers are making the PvP a little repetitive and boring.
---sig---
PvE in general is pretty lame, if you think long and hard about it. You are spending your time beating a severely gimped AI that would lose to a well trained monkey. Best not to think too long and hard why you are wasting time playing games in general actually...
What makes me leave/quit an MMORPG is when I would rather do something else besides log in for more than a few days in a row... usually if I go a month with no real urge to log in I will cancel my subscription to a game.
Typically if I quit an MMO it's begun to feel more like a job than a game and I spend more time bored than having fun in it.
Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.

Still in: A couple Betas
I generally quite whenever I get bored, which generally happens when the reward/work ratio gets a bit off kilter for me. I also do find that if I stay away for quite some time ... like a week or more ... I am much less inclined to ever go back. I think I just kind of move on at that point.
EVE has managed to keep my attention the longest by far because I can take periodic breaks, still advance my character, and I have really strong personal relationships (read: friendships) with people who play the game that have spilled over into real life as well. Ultimately, I've found that it's these personal ties that keep a game more interesting for me, fun, satisfying and social as well, rather than just "a game".
When I realize one of the following:
3 main reasons:
1. Lack of content and variety in that content.
2. The game is just too damn easy.
3. Lack of classes/races/skill customization
Joined 2004 - I can't believe I've been a MMORPG.com member for 20 years! Get off my lawn!
Everquest -> Friend forced me to play it, I played for about 2-3 months until I told him: "Look, I hate First person RPGs, I need to see my character in 3rd person view" quit.
Star Wars Galaxies -> In the Jedi village, escorting quest was bugged, SOE's customer service told me to f*** off and couldn't fix the problem and just wait for next month. Lost an entire month of a Force Tree unlock, I had already done pretty much everything this game had to offer except being a Jedi. So I left... if I can't unlock jedi, what else can I do?
City of Heroes -> REPETITIVE!!! Remember all those boring SNES Capcom beat'em up games? Like Final Fight? Well that's how I felt. I create a hero, which was cool, then I beat up the same damn humanoid NPCs over and over again for XP. Game lasted about 2 months. What sucked was that each of my super heroes lasted a week. I'd make a hero, raise him to level 15, get bored, reroll another super hero, and repeat.
Dark Age of Camelot -> I just quit cause World of Warcraft came out and it was just as fun and I don't have time to play 2 Fantasy MMORPGs at once.
Lineage II -> Game sucks big time. I coudln't stand it for more than a week. Kept being ganked and lose money and items. Community is like 1000x worst than WoW. Too bad though, the dark elves were HAWT!
Guild Wars -> Reached level 20 (cap level) in 7 days, I hate PVP all together, this was so not my game cause once you're level 20, all you do is PVP. Total lack of PVE content. When they release more content, I'll re-install it... thank god no monthly fee.
World of Warcraft -> I didn't exactly "QUIT" yet... I just haven't played for the past few days cause I'm back in Star Wars Galaxies. But the game was getting boring. Running BRS, Scholo or Strath everyday. I can't stand Molten Core cause I only have 3-5 hours of game time per day. Takes 1 hour to set up a MC raid group, then takes AT LEAST 3 hours to get through Molten Core! I actually told the group once after 1 hour of playing: "Sorry guys, I gotta go" and they go so pissed. So f*** them... whenever they made a MC raid, I just didn't ask for an invite. At least LBRS can be done within 2 hours or less.
So that's it. Now I'm in SWG again, hunting Jedi, killing and punishing all those dumb@ss Padawans cause I'm not a Jedi myself. It's fun. I enjoy hearing them whine how they were just minding their own business. ROFL... ya shoudln't of become a Jedi if you weren't expecting to be hunted, idiots.
___________ ___ __ _ _ _
Stealth - Ambush - Hemorrhage - Sinister Strike x2 - Cold Blood - Eviscerate - Vanish - Preparation - Cold Blood - Ambush - ... you're dead! :P
SWG = Cu
then continual patches that only addressed the alpha class
promised re vamp to smugglers not seeing them even though told coming after cu then deveolpers saying all new content on hold ( in the same breath seeing needed changes to another class any way)
entertainers being marginalized, changing musician up so much patch 20 and all the insturments being done a different way
patch fatigue, account goes till augest but not will be re upped at this time
just have no faith that the things i am interested in will be fixed any time soon
Everquest 2 & SWG: Sony's exchange policy. I won't play and SOE game again.
The Matrix Online: It got very repetitive
Saga of Ryzom: Lack of updates, lack of missions/quests.
1-Bad PVP (Lineage 2 -RYL)
2-Nerfing (EQ - EQ2)
3-Simplicity (WOW - GW - EQ2)
4-Lack of players (Horizons - AC - AC2)
5-Wrong genre (AO - EVE - SWG)
6-Boredom (DAoC - AC2 - SWG - Ryzom)
7-Simply awful games (at least 10 others that are not even worth a mention)
1. Lack of anything to do except collect items/lack of content
2. Too many aspects of the game completely broken
3. Good ol' boredom

MMOs Retired From: Earth and Beyond, Project Entropia, There, A Tale in the Desert, Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Eve Online, City of Heroes/Villains.
MMOs Currently (worth) Playing: None.
MMO hopefuls: Age of Conan.
This one's easy: Dull repetitive gamplay and a serious lack of original thinking.
Seriously, every fantasy MMO (add Anarchy Online to that) that I've played is the same damn game. The only thing that ever changes are the graphics and the name.
In so far as EVE goes, requiring a skill for quite literally every little thing in the game was a bit much for me. That and the very very long warp times (eg; waiting to arrive at your destination) was enough to finish the game for me. I like EVE, just not.... like that.

Lack of players...
bad updates/patches...
bad PvP
Slow lvling/hard grind...

1. Endless Grinding
2. Lack of contents
3. Depends on number of friends in the game
4. Too many bots around, instead of real players
5. Lag factor
The Best thing about the future is that it comes only one day at a time.
*Crying* It's true it's all true. Why do I even play MMOs? They're like bad girl friends, they look really good and it's fun to begin with but then it all goes downhill. She gets boring, repetitive and you starts looking for a new girl friend... or in this case MMO.
A never-ending circle that we are forced to repeat. But hang in there guys. Someday we will find that perfect MMO that we can settle down with- I'm sure of it.
/me promptly falls over
Good analogy. Hell, they even demand a certain ammount of money to be spent on them.
OMG if I knew how to make a sig that would be going in it, that is the total truth right there, like the Confusious truth.
