At this point; Is Steam even doing anything to give devs/publishers an incentive to release on their platform without the delay? I mean, sure...it sucks if you dislike the Epic store front, but I would have expected Steam to defend their position a bit more aggressively...
The issue with the Epic Store is they want to give devs/pubs the ability to DISABLE REVIEWS. - I've probably removed a dozen or more games from my Steam Wishlist after the reviews started coming in about them. **I never would have known how bad the game is because I don't spend hours looking through articles to get an idea on the game. I want to see the reviews on the page; just like I do when I got shopping on Amazon.**
Dah well. Hopefully more characters, more content, and on sale when it reaches Steam.
This is actually another concern I have about these games doing 1yr or 6month Epic exclusives. When the exclusivity deal ends and the games come to Steam will they be trying to charge full price? The only way I'd buy a game like that if it's been out for 6mo/1yr is if it is on a pretty steep discount.
Epic doesnt have: Reviews, Mod support, user profiles, cloud saves, forums, item trading, library sorting, account sharing, streaming to other devices, wish lists, user guides; it also has pretty terrible account security - personally had my account compromised twice in the past year. Forcing people to buy certain games from your shop is not competition, its just strong arming. I really don't understand why people are defending Epic. Steam takes a cut for a lot of other supportive features. Sure I want a solid competitor for Steam, not this risky anti-consumer wannabe store.
While I agree with you to some degree, I know I don't need any of those features from Steam. (well, better account security, sure that is going to improve though) And no one is being forced to do anything. 2K is probably confident they will be able to make more money on release selling exclusively on EPIC. I can't imagine very many people who want this game won't buy it because of the platform it's on. And if they don't I can't imagine they have a good reason. Steam is no charity, no friend to the gamers. They are just another business. Their return policy and other gamer friendly stuff was all legally forced on them, or just their to make their service more profitable.
I can't speak for everyone but for me, some of those features are important. I won't by a game unless I like what the reviews have to say and having it on Steam makes it convenient. Not having that feature tells me Epic doesn't want you to know if the game is good or bad it just wants you to buy it.
You say you want better account security but Epic admitted their launch reads files in your Steam directory. To me, that's spyware and a big violation of trust. Why should I believe anything they say after that? Steam is not my friend and neither is Epic. If Epic is trying to get my business by having exclusives, they're just telling me their store has nothing else to offer. And since Epic is also a business their return policy was legally forced on them too.
Yes, Steam has a lot of room for improvement. So does Epic. Thing is Steam earned its chance with me. Epic has not and doesn't seem to want to. It wants to demand I install it in order to get certain games and that's one game I won't play.
While convenience is another matter, and I do look at reviews, I've found them less and less usefull as services pop up to sell reviews. The Steam recent total was a great idea though I have to admit. And while I can understand all of what you are saying, I think it's better for the consumers and the developers if Steam isn't as much of a monopoly. And the sooner the better. If that means there will be some exclusive games on EPIC I'm 100% fine with that.
Well i think Steam has a lot more notoriety ,people often sift through Steam while not thinking twice about Epic.So in that sense yeah they could lose money. Most of gaming is through marketing, pretty much any notable game is already known about long before it goes on sale,so it is not like a known game is going to get missed by being on Epic's store. I am not sure how anyone could hate epic's store,if there is a game you like, buy it ,it is as simple as that. There is literally no difference, refunds the same,i assume accessibility is the same.
"Exclusive".Well we have already seen this for a LOT of years in the sports games. Are we getting shanked by the idea, are those sports games charging way more than other games? We know how it works outside of gaming,we do get the shaft and big time but i feel in gaming it is still a case of 5-30 bucks for low end games and 50-80 for high end games.
If exclusive meant we were held hostage by a game we all wanted to play and saw those games selling for over a $100 then maybe we have a problem. However what are the crappy UNFINISHED EA games doing?Selling 50/90/150/2k packages. What are the very shallow once FREE games like the BR's and moba's and arpg's doing, they are selling and making multiple MILLIONS in cash shops.
Point being i don't see anything over the top happening with exclusive games.I also feel Epic/Tim Sweeney is not stupid,he is not going to create a lot of flak for the business when starting up,prices will be as normal as we can expect them to be.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

The swarm will preorder it and many of those will hardly play the game. They just collect, consume, and move along. Those with patience may wait until the game is on console or Steam, but will not buy if it has gotten poor reviews or is overpriced. The publishers would be really dumb to count on some kind of second wind when the venerable exclusivity blanket is lifted, imo. But it also wouldn’t surprise me if they are banking on it and it works out for them. Consumerism is pretty twisted when you get into the psychology of it.

No clue what Borderlands is, so won't be missing it.
First person looter shooter. Think Diablo but 1st person and a sort of Overwatch gameplay with different guns and abilities. The humor and graphics presentation via cell shading made it distinct at the time.
The newer installment can potentially be better than the predecessor (Borderlands 2, the prequel that was released afterwards was a disappointment), especially after the luckluster launch of Anthem. However the first signs are not promising. There are rumours about invasive MTX (the original game could have been built with those at the time, but had none) and a very short main campaign. And you also get the launch in a place where player reviews are not allowed, further giving credence to people advising caution.
Still, curiosity and nostalgia will probably win and the game will sell, even if it's hot garbage. After all, Anthem sold relatively well, and it wasn't part of a loved IP.
Not buying the game unless it uses Steam as a platform or standalone, and has no Denuvo DRM.
Gotta show them with your wallet if you are unhappy, so i'll just play the free version, but by the time it does come to Steam 6 months later I won't be buying it until it's on like a $10 sale.
Which means basically the developers lost $42 with Steams 30% cut from the copy and with a $10 sale will only be making $7.
Either way developers who choose to go store exclusive will just lose more money due to less sales by those who really don't want to use epic due to lack of features and stuff.

I'm sure with the extra $20 or whatever they will make from all the other millions of us who don't care which platform it's on 2K won't mind if you do that.

This is a bit of a contradictory statement, considering that greed for all the money drove him to move to the Epic exclusive deal. If he could find a way to get the free Epic money, the Epic sales and her money, no matter how small an amount, he would do it.
The Epic store defenders are under the illusion that when the dust settles we'll end up with two competing Steam like stores.
The Epic store opposers realise that when the dust settles and if the Epic store gains a leader position, it will lead on an era of locked content and anti-consumer practices.
What is it more likely, that they'll become customer friendly to reward your support, or they'll continue to repeat indefinitely what they (potentially) make them successful?
Exclusives, whether they are Steam or Epic or whatever exclusives, are obnoxious. It makes sense when Steam makes DOTA2 an exclusive or when EA makes their sports games exclusives to the EA store. But exclusives, to any online retailer that is built by a third party is weird and obnoxious. Stupid even.
The smartest move was made by Ubisoft. Between the Epic store (and their cut) and their own store (and zero cut), people will flock to their own store to avoid the Epic one.
The funny bit is that even the people who defend the Epic store for their lower developers cut, can't side with Epic this time, when the developer gives the option to sell with zero cut.

That would go against every statement Epic has made on the matter.
You're assuming way too much simply to try and criticize Epic.

I hope you are one of those people that buy only the most green and friendly products, because otherwise it's your greed that lead you to do choose the path of pure evil! :P
Actually, in this case, neither Steam nor Epic is the "Good" choice, they are just 2 companies with different fee structures and services, so you may want to bring your crusade elsewhere.
I believe what you are referring to is generally called running a business. You look at your different options, evaluate which one will make the most money, and go with that one.

Hey it's still $59.99 for basic addition.......What happened to the savings being passed on to the customer? A tax on the whole industry? That didn't include the customer right? Well at least they stuck it to Steam, lets all defend that choice, because Steam is somehow screwing us as well with it's multitude of features vs basic bitch Epic store.

I don't believe there was anything mentioned about "savings passed on to the customer." (was there? Never saw that anywhere)
I do believe they said that the developers would bring home more.

No one should ever touch the Epic Store until the commit to a consumer-first policy. EDIT: If anyone wants the info: https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2019-02-01-opt-in-review-system-in-the-works-for-epic-games-store
