Ok, just thought I would bring up the topic of players that are considerd "Legends" in certain mmorpgs, Example: Zezima in runescape, a long time player. Rumour has it this person is 30 years old living in his/her parents basement, playing 20+ hours of runescape a day, just to keep the
#1 position on the high ranks. Now I know there are many people that are considerd "legends" in other games too, they must have to play so much everyday. Whats everyones thoughts on this? im not trying to offend anyone.. just thought it was a very interesting topic. Thanks

That's scary.....................
If they exist, I won't necessarily call them "legendary"................spending 20 hours a day in front of a monitor isn't legendary at all.
But I know several players that, although they don't smash every single record, they are excellent players with a charming personality.
But they are not legendary enough to be mentioned
Maybe Monk in Gunz Online
and TigerWood in shot online...
yeah, I wouldent consider them "legends" in rl.. heh, but I guess what i mean is they are looked up to, or very well known.. but play a ridiculous amount of time, which is sad in a way too..
well, this person wasn't a freak, but a legend in Anarchy Online circles. Boglwe. She had a spot in borealis and she'd just stand/sit there ALL the time. Some how, she was level 124 when I last saw her, but until she quit, she'd always be there when you went through the town. I wish I could see her /played hours, because she was just there All the time! If you ever saw her move, it was a huge moment. EVERYONE wanted to be her friend, and she was very popular, and big into role-playing. I recently started AO again on a free account, and everytime I go through borealis nowadays, I feel like something is missing .

Mumu in FFXI. The only player to level all 15 jobs to level 75. The mind boggles.

He did say "legends" and not legends guys. I beleive the OP realizes what everyone is saying about they may be losers but for sake of a better word...
Legendary, notorious, infamous, famous, whatever you want to call it I think if you stop throwing down slams at conceptual people, you should know what the OP was trying to say.

Great topic..
Somehow I consider myself at least semi-legend from Neocron early days as "Maker Of stuff" as I had a very good reputation of getting slots on pretty much everything.
"Trailrix" from Anarchy online, was with me from beta and later joined my guild, sold his account for an unprecented amount of $. ( hey mate, if yer reading this, (umbra@algonet.se for msn 2252239 ICQ )
Ethernal from Anarchy-online as well, the keeper of warr-net and tara-net and some other "nets" as well, when he left much of AO died, maybe not the most cool headed guy but fair and smart, I do hope some MMO company have picked him up. ( again, send me a tell? Borel/Barimen )
"Kieasia" from Asherons call, my patron on solclaim´, again mate, please send me a tell..?
"Vayy" from EQ2, my guild leader and dear friend, allthough I do no longer play, of all the people I have ever met in any MMO this person is indeed as high a quality as they ever come.
I have many more but sadly they do not count as "legend", allthough they should..

About the only MMO "Legends" I know about are from SWG, mostly because that's where I've spent most of my MMO life but there was a few stand out people there.
During beta and all the way through about 1 year after release, there was this guy that everyone called the wanderer, I don't even remember the characters actual name because this was the only name anyone ever called him. Basically all this guy did was walk around whatever planet he was on at the time and recite music lyrics, poetry and riddles. One of the really neat things this guy would do was hide little fun things in his riddles, so if you listened really carefully you could pick up clues on where to go, most of the time it was just a little house he'd set up with a few cheap presents in there for people. It was a small thing and I have no idea how even lasted as long as he did (god how boring it must have been) but it really added something... different and interesting. He was really missed when he left, I still have friends that talk about him.
As much as people hate Jedi now in SWG (cept for the one's that are Jedi that is... actually even some of those hate Jedi so scratch that), there was a time when becoming a Jedi was a complete mystery and everyone was trying to figure out how to do it (these were really cool times in SWG). Anyways, eventually the dev's spilled the beans and then the Xmas Holo thing came around so everyone hit the ground running for Jedi. A really great friend of mine was the first the unlock his Jedi on our server and right away I guess he turned into a Legen in his own right, it was really cool and this guy was really into it, he so deserved the pay off for the time he put into it. Before everyone knew about holocrons this guys tried EVERYTHING, and I mean everything to try and figure it out. So funny but great to see he got it first in the end.
Important Information regarding Posting and You
To me personally, This is the only type of player I have really ever considered legendary. To me the defined difference between elite and legendary is selflessness. I think any player that is this level of selfless is worthy of legendary, I have only met two ever, I am familiar with the one above and a name I cannot recall from back in the UO days.
Also to me no Elite player will ever be legendary in my eye's, ultimatly to be elite you play for your own selfish desire's. I fall into this group I wont deny it, I will never be at the level of a ledgendary player, but for my own personal goals I will accept that. However those few players that are the above to me deserve the highest amount of respect.
As for those that simply have tons of toons maxed out, *shrug* I really do not put much stock in that, sounds like too much time on their hands to me..but whatever they enjoy, I honestly do not care to make presumptions about their personal life.
Every game has it's own legendary players - those people who, through one means or another, helped to SHAPE that virtual world as they played it.
Many people play these games, but most people do not actively shape the world around them while they do. They level up, some fast, some slow. They do the quests. They talk some on boards. They pvp, if it's allowed.
And then there are some folks who, simply, go above and beyond.
Folks like Rageous, on DAOC-Galahad, who would show up in the frontier and INSTANTLY have a 200-person zerg following him around - staying organized, and cohesive, and wreaking havoc. I ran my share of huge raids myself there, but he was well above that.
PKs like Shollos, Mordok, Blood, Aerious, and others, from AC1-Darktide. These folks killed more people there in a month than most PKs might manage in a year. They were epic, legendary.
Folks like the RPK Og, from the same game (and others), whose name was known by EVERYONE on the server, to the point where "getting Ogged" was considered a sort of strange honor.
Names from Shadowbane like Herog, Owain, Ond, and tons of others - movers and shakers who MADE the worlds they played in what they were.
Those leaders of the Old Guard guilds, guilds which have been around for half a decade or longer - Sagacious, Deyth, Owain, KV, and many others.
Perhaps because I play more in pvp games, where it's easier for players to have a real impact on the world around them, I see more of this than the average player. But I cannot recall playing an MMORPG where I did NOT see characters worthy of the name legendary. It has nothing to do with how much they played, or how fast they leveled. What is important is what impact they made on the world, and the other players - what lasting stories, tales, and fables were left behind - and how the other players saw them while they were (or are) there.

In any game i play
I am pretty much a legendary player on any server i play on
i am well known
Every knows me cause i pretty much pwn all in pvp and my enemies fear me for the most part
I wish every game was like Daoc where it would announce to the whole zone your name when you pk someone i think thats great and helps you become legendary faster
The thing that can ruin your legendary status is when everyone catches up to you in level
so the best games to be a legend in is where their is no level cap
like in tibia i have a level 100 and i can pwn anyone
Like i used to pwn every1 in swg with my bh pistoleer and 2 ATSTs when it was new
In lineage 2 when everyone was low level i could just pwn everyone cause they where into just grinding and powerleveling and u could gank anyone all the time
Guild wars my teams pwn everyone in the arena all the time
In wow i pwned everyone and i was the 1st sergeant major on my server ranked number 1 in pvp
the first week ranks came out, but to maintain that rank i would not have been able to sleep so i had to retire that character or i would have lost my legendary uber status
If you are 30 years old, living in your parents basement and playing any game for 20+ hours a day and not getting paid well................................
I'm not trying to get banned so I'll keep my thoughts to myself.

Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.
Furor Fires of Heaven and Tigole of Afterlife were famous for thier exploits as leaders of thier own guilds in Everquest. And they had ALOT of power and thier word carried alot of weight with the player-base. This was due to thier raw style (especially Furor) and success in EQ. Basically they were they top guilds of all EQ for years.
Guess were Furor and Tigole are now? Yeap, working for Blizzard in the #1 MMORPG of all time. So I guess, playing alot for them wasn't a loser move, eh.

Eq1 Xblade Paladin with every AA possible sold his account for near 5000 dollars and this was just like last year.He allways kept 25 or what ever the max AA's banked.
Legends? More like massive nerds...
The kind of people who give MMORPG players a bad name.
Tigole was not a member of Afterlife. He was guild leader of Legacy of Steel from The Nameless server
Tarryk's a big legend on Anarchy Online. He started the online radio and partying in game. this was like a couple weeks after the game came out, I was a noob wandering around, and see like 5 or six people run into a seemingly random building in Stret west bank. Happened to be Reet's Retreat, and Tarryk had his very first mega-bash then. It was a lot of fun, and after his parties got really popular, a bunch of other people started DJ'ing, and it still goes on (tarryk retired) on http://www.gridstream.org/ but now they have to go through live365 crap. It used to be just plug in the IP address in winamp, but no, that's 'piracy' nowadays . To my knowlege he started the whole thing.

My husband was fairly well known among clerics in EQ because he lived on the boards (mainly EQClerics) when he wasn't in the game, to the point that he often had other clerics ask if he was THE Dikmer from the boards. He had a good reputation as a solid-to-amazing cleric but a bad rep for personality on our server.
(Then he blew it all off and became a mage. Oddly, his personality didn't change, but people liked him better as a mage, even when they knew he was the same person.)
That's hardly legendary... but he's my husband and I am fond of him, so I thought I'd throw it in there anyway.
