Lot of good comments added. I personally believe the very modest approach in the video shown is the way to go for the developers, although I expect the graphics to be improved. I dont know if its important to improve it by a lot, though. It depends on the audience. At this point I believe they have to get some early access alpha rolling sooner than later if theres any hope of salvaging anything (I sill believe the intention is to create a game and not to scam backers)
Imagine if 3 years in Star Citizen pulled this and said hey guys this is pre-Citizen...
Cool I would be able to play it then!
Not sure why people bring up how much money they have spent. Them getting paid 70k each a year, seems way too high. Small indie company that really isn't making that much. No idea of the going rate for that industry, but my guess, they be on the lower end. If SBS was really low on funds, there are so many different things they could do to boost the hell out of sales. The point they don't milk people for everything they are worth, seems to say they are fine on that front.
First, I assume they ARE low on funds. Secondly, if Star Citizen would launch within the next quarter I believe a big majority would prefer it happened without performance issues, even if it meant worse graphics. Back to the point again; The first clip we were shown, how many here believes this is indeed the world (alpha of course) or just a small instanced town. I think thats an interesting subject to discuss, because what we have been shown previously, with lots of shinies, was just small instances. My point is, IF they actually managed to create the world instance, with NPC's, I am personally more inclined to believe there actually IS a game coming. I dont think they will be able to pull of most of what was promised, but theres some interesting things being revealed; The inventory, seems to indicate the developers are NOT intending to launch a game which from start is "survival mode". Meaning, theres NPCs selling or giving avay already functional gear of certain quality. That mace and those clothes indicate were starting off in the middle ages. Will there be progess, or will the players not be able to advance beyond that technological level? Correct me if I am wrong, but I had an idea the gameworlds would start off somewhere around year 0. Maybe this means theyre scrapping the developing world idea. Which would make sense. Too many risks. Secondly I wonder if what your toon learns will be passed on to your heir. Would you need to relearn ALL names and locations? From the video It looks like you need to. Its a small village, and the played PC has to learn about not only location but also personal details about the customer being deliveres a package. This seems tideous at best, but at the same time its an idea I personally find interesting. Im bored of mmorpgs where your toon already know the whole world and all people in it. Still, leaving your toon completely blank is NOT the way to go. Can anyone shed any lights upon what game engine theyre using, and how easy it will be/not be to change the graphics into something resembling what theyre presenting on their frontpage? If not, thats clearly a scam and must be adressed very soon. They cant sell the game on the base of graphical presentations which they can not deliver due to changing engine. Thats also something I find interesting to know more about.

Well for whatever reason I can't upload pictures... but glassdoor.com lists 1 salary for a Technical Animator at SBS and its 70-76k (not including cost of benefits).
Their funding is going to hinge on the "reverse auction" of the remaining land. It will be hyped as the last chance to buy the advantage of owning land in the game and you can even get it at a discount!. I think this will spur existing people to buy more land because they will need to protect their earlier investment. Shortly thereafter (or maybe simultaneously due to the multiple month delay in the reverse auction) I expect them to start selling more upgrades.
My gut tells me that they will be able to generate enough of a FOMO that the same people that spent $6.2M toss in another million or two. But who knows, maybe people have had enough. Time will tell.
To me, the most interesting time will be when people are actually allowed in the game. When CUSTOMERS are walking in those videos linked in the OP. Will that hold their interest and ramp up the hype? Or will it turn people away for good? Right now the game is all things to all players. Once people get in, that will start to change. Caspien has already started to try and frame the narrative by saying things like:

@Slapshot1188 did he really say people actively searching for bugs in an ALPHA access would be thrown out? I feel...I dont know...Overwhelmed could be the word im looking for.

Alpha is for testing the features to ensure they are enjoyable. Beta is for making sure there are no bugs outstanding.

I have absolutely no reason to doubt you, on the contrarly I always rely on the information you provide. But someone within his own ranks would have to explain to him Alpha and Beta stages are indeed to find and iron out bugs, not to enjoy the features. Maybe direct him into CU's beta testing program?

It's unlikely that CoE could get their employees cheaper than big companies. More likely they have to pay more because developers know that their funding is uncertain and want some extra for that risk.
I dont know where I read it, but I am fairly certain I read somewhere theres trainees developing content as well. If they have 2-3 trainees in the developing departement out of how many? 10? thats already a good reduction on the salary. But were on the semantics side again, discussing finances, which has been done and will be done until it releases or evaporates. Lets get back to the newest released in game footage

Clearly proving once more he is roleplaying as a game development lead. (And has no future in a PR career)

The good news is as per Caspian in the March State of Elyria address, "Pre-Elyria 0.50 is coming along great, 60% finished now and the remainder of it should be done by end of summer 2019. We are already in summer, So pre-Elyria should be out in literally 3-4 months. I can't wait to hear the excuse Caspian makes when Pre-Elyria doesn't make it into 2019.

That game looks literal shit and I can't stop laughing at those terrible videos they call actual gameplay. It looks like a 1st year game developer class project. The fact that there are actually people excited for this debacle is hilarious. Judging by the progress they are either just really slow, or through the magic of internet video working backwards. All in all at this pace I bet Star Citizen will launch before this game.
Probably because they'll still be fine tuning D&SS in Sept.
Well Caspien”s latest update yesterday was that “DSS is nearly complete” and remember... their burn rate is real and their next sale is tied to auctioning off the unsold land parcels which they can’t do until Selection is over.

That be doubtful. Going off the last mini update. I'm expecting it to happen early next month. Getting it thrown out another two months. They really have to stuff something up for that to happen.

We know that the next sale will be for 'unsold land parcels'. What's the next sale after that going to be? Will it keep this flying circus going? Will the next sale gather enough money to keep this farce running? Are the developers out of monetization ideas? Have the whales been beached enough? SBS and the various communities (including us) are the soap operas of the times.
No matter what anyone thinks about COE or its development, it has shown aspects of the human animal's mind that we only feared were true. SBS provides the stimuli; we react. Observing this could provide material for countless sociological papers. All the college students wanting to poll the membership about 'games', don't bother. This team is putting out more material than anyone could ever need every time they communicate with the world.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

If you go to their discord and mention any of this, they will shoot you down instantly, that is the white ivory tower over there. You need to keep in mind there are people who put in BIG money into this game, we're talking hundreds of people who put in $5000+ buying up duke/king titles....no matter the delays they will never admit they wasted their time and money...all the sane people have already abandoned following this game long ago, after the countless missed deadlines and nothing to show there is an actual game being produced. I don't know how Caspian can sleep at night knowing his studio is all talk and nothing to show for it. 3 years post-Kickstarter and they are showing simple videos like you said that can be made in a 1st year developer class. I give this project about another year before Caspian shuts this down.

If they can deliver the game play systems they are developing, I will have 0 problem with the graphics as is.

Great graphics, bad gameplay, systems, I will certainly pass.
Star Citizen changed game engine with almost 0 loss of project integrated, kind of speaks volumes on development skill level in my opinion.
But it must have taken considerable time to do so. This seems to be a pitfall of Indies not sure this is true for large studio games? They either change the engine or decide to start some other sort of game like voxel or mode like BR. Or maybe because they are KS this sort of thing is just more noticeable and the large studios keep the gaffs under wrap?
