Those are really old by now. That's 2014-2015 content or so.

    A nice touch though.

The internet today: EA announces Previous Expansions Will Be Free With Arrival Of Onslaught.

I'm thinking of grabbing some popcorn and a few beers to see all the reasons people still find a way to knock EA.

I can find several reason to beat EA over and over, without a care, but a reason to defend then, now taht is something hard to get

It’s nice, but the constrictive f2p model they employ negates it, imo. Still, this is a good time to try it if you haven’t, imo.

I don't get the hate. If LOTRO turned around and started giving away all of its past expansions for free everyone would praise them for it.

I don't have much love for EA, and don't care at all about SWTOR, but this is a good move all around. It doesn't matter why they are doing it, just be happy they are doing it.

Idon't rmeember lotro locking hot bars behind a pay wall, plus lotro is a nice, swtor get the hate for 3 things EA, bioware, its a star wars game and will not have another till this one is closed, the first one is a given no one expect anything better from then, bioware is the salt in the wound, they had higher hope from then, most makrk this game the reason for bioware decline, the star wars thing I don't belive I need to explain

plus that is what you get when the dev who makes a game is proud of the sound files in the game, not the gameplay

Are these the ones that increase the level cap? I think you could only go up to level 50 or something before as a f2p player? With the cap being 70 or something.

I forgot there were expansions and didn't realize they still charged for them. I only bought one. All the other content was included in some other perks or packages or deals I got at some point.

I guess it's nice that they're dropping that fee. The worst parts of their hybrid f2p/sub model I'm pretty sure will remain unchanged - limited crafting and quest rewards unless you sub.

MMOs have come full course. They dropped the mandatory sub to make them accessible, then added cash shops, loot crates, and RMT currencies. Then they locked key systems or mechanics behind the sub. The classic triple dip has become the default standard.

This is why I've come to hate whale driven gaming. It either puts you in the position of leech or sugar daddy and robs the voice and vote of anyone willing to pay some reasonable middle-ground price for a game.

    I couldn't agree more.
Sadly it's our fellow gamers who let companies get away with this. The ones so eager to buy an advantage that they drop 10's of thousands of dollars on a game. =/

It's painfully obvious on BDO and some other MMOs with heavy P2W elements.

That's rather the problematic part, as it's not just whales the modern system targets. If it were only whales, it wouldn't nearly be the same kind of problem because there's only so many people that can just drop "10's of thousands" on entertainment like that. There's a tendency to be chasing impulse buys instead.

Like the common mechanics in Korean MMOs to have gear upgrades with fail chances, and you buy booster items for them from the cash shop. Or in the case of this game, componentizing of many basic features to sell them back for the convenience and better gaming experience.

Those aren't meant to expressly catch whales, that's meant to pull many people in with individual smaller purchases that happen on quick decisions instead of structured analysis. It's only when you take the time beforehand to tally up the costs of everything they are doing this with, or the probability behind the desired results that creates an average for how much you'll have to buy a random element, that you then realize just how out of whack it is.

It's not just targeting people with money, but anyone that are soft enough targets to let go of their money on an impulse.

Just an observation: this will be the first time that same-sex romance arcs will not be behind a paywall. 1-50 companion romances are opposite sex only, and the sole same-sex "Flirt" prompts are tucked away in Bounty Contract Week encounters.

So, good job, I guess? I find it hard to congratulate 7+ years of Pay to Gay.

Giving out full expansions but not enabling some bits of the UI, disabling action bars.

    Yeah, that makes sense.

Yea because the idea was pay for as much of the content/game as you want...now that they are offering things free it kinda blows that idea out of the water and no reason to support the f2p'ers now.

If they do still support the f2p scrubs that's 100% on them now.

I could try those expansions for free. I bought the game at launch but I refused to buy those DLCs because i would still have remained a peasant with preferred status.

Im not going to defend EA by anymeans, this games F2P is horrid and its far better if you sub which gives you the things anyway, BUT with that said KotET and KotFE are amazing stories, with what feels like true to bioware story telling and are worth a playthough even if you dont do any of the other MMO stuff.
