The reason that WoW has so many subscribers is that Blizzard puts out lots of other kick-ass games. The "big three"...Diablo, Warcraft, and Starcraft...they're just such good games
Blizzard puts out games that are easy to play and require less thought than other competitors. For the casual gamer these games seem good however... They often lack a great deal of substance... Diablo, Warcraft and Starcraft all alike. Blizzard has done nothing revolutionary... nothing new, WoW is just a dumbed down version of what's out there. And people love it.
I prefer pushing the threshold rather than... retracting it.

Partly true, but "dumbed down" is a phrase I wouldn't use. Simplified, yes, it lacks some of the intricate detail of its competitors. However it is by no means lacking in substance, style or content - it's rich in all three.
Pushing the threshold is fine, I prefer to be challenged.
Don't confuse challenging with cumbersome though, which is how EQ2 is designed.
WoW on a server with hardcore rulesets would be infinitely better.

4. Ive noticed less younger players in other MMOs once WoW came out... Its geared for a young audience and the young audience loves it
Personally I like EQ2 better.
They are both far from the best MMORPGs out, though. Had a 60 mage on whisperwind, before the Honor system etc...

PLEASE SOE MAKE A CLASSIC EQ SERVER. Shadow of luclin was a prick in EQs side. PoP Was a gun to the face.
I think Shae hit the nail on the head. Blizzard took out everything that John Q. Average gamer finds offputting about most MMORPGs out (steep learning curves, massive downtime, glacial character advancement, classes that are useless gimptards solo, 12 hour blocks of time required to experience the high end content), while leaving in most of the things John Q. Average gamer wants from a MMORPG ("phat lewt," powerfull well rounded classes, exploration, quests, big gnarly monsters to kill, PvP).
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

That's it. What's worth pointing out as well is that Blizzard always ramps up the difficulty in their expansions.

I can give you more than one reason.
1. Geared for less "hardcore" players.
2. BLIZZARD is a huge name...
3. Low hardware specs required to play

Large open beta that went very well ( for the most part) (word of mouth)
pc systems requirements allow for more of the general audience to try the waters
