Black Desert Online would have rocked the western world.

BDO have a great foundation when It comes to quests, mini games, farming, crafting, sailing, hunting and ofc the open world, no loading zones and well crafted one with sweet graphics.
Then we have the enchantment aspect of the game, you have your armor, weapon and trinkets, now you have to enchant em to get better stats and that are really stupid system to begin with, yes I understand it is kinda normal in Asian games to have some kind of grind.

If they dropped all this enchantment system and went full classic drops, sets via quests, crafting, bosses like western games I'm sure this game would boom in players, I don't mind farming or grind but the idiotic enchantment system really ruins the game, the game it self has so many fun things to do so many life things to do, but If you want to compete you have to play the RNG gods in enchantment system.

I would like too see armour sets you can find in drops like in EQ, you fight bosses, mobs and hoping for a good drop.

Just my few cents on the matter.

The PVE would still suck ,   the worst PVE ive seen ... just terrible .. and negates anythig positive that BDO does imo

i am the same level as you... bdo visuals are top notch.. none mmo beats that.

but ye same crap as AA... gearing and RNG is a major thing.

might wanne add that there is not much of group play in this game. both pve and pvp.

    boss fighting envolves around dps.

it could have been a very big game. with some minor adjustments. but on the other hand its doing fine right now aswell.

    shitton of content
    enjoyable combat visuals.. animations
    best looking game overall.

i stop playing it due to rng and no group play

Are the stats you gain with each level still partially randomized? If so that always comes to mind as a baffling decision for any non permadeath game.

in everyway ...  Its to easy ..have gotten to lvl 57 ( returned again last month for a bit)

Ive never died once , Never gotten close to dying , and this is consistently pulling mass amounts of red con mobs(over 20 at a time)  .. can do purple , but the TTK is to long ..

Helen Keller could PVE this game if given 5 minutes learning combos .. Could stick her in a spawn area and turn her loose ...

When I tried it out I found the PvE to be extremely easy, and I've heard there isn't much in the way of traditional endgame raiding. I've seen many critique these elements.

Does using a credit card help you with enchanting?  If it does, I think that is the whole purpose...

Except for it is boring as heck. Combat: Boring and unrewarding Crafting: Boring and overcomplicated for no reason Quests: Boring and lifeless. The only thing it really had going for it was the graphics.

Well op i disagree on pretty much everything you said.

First of all BDO's foundation of game design is horrible, the ONLY reason i quit the game quickly and never wanted to go back.

Yes there is some truth to enchanting systems we often see in Asian games however enchanting alone isn't bad, just bad in some games such as BDO.

You know what i like about BDO?? It's graphics and a few ideas however even the few ideas i like were horribly implemented so pretty much 99% of the actual game is just poorly designed.

So to say it could be a hit, well yeah anything could be a hit,if this was released by blizzard it likely gets a free pass and remains a heavily marketed game with decent numbers, that does NOT mean it is a well designed game.

I do not adhere to designing games for lazy people or people who whine about time constraints as there are already TONS of games catered to those type of people,go play them.I also do not adhere to grind for the sake of running a cash shop because cash shops are NEVER on my to do list and i try to avoid all the cash shop games. If every publisher ,developer tries to enforce cash shop gaming on me,i will simply play single player or no games at all.

I can break down EVERY single aspect of a game's design and tell you how it should have been done or at least done better or with some effort.I am not seeing much effort from mmopg developers because it is a very tough genre with a lot of systems that all need addressing,so yeah takes a lot of effort to do it right.

BDO has everything, but none of it provides substance. you'll be logging in only for the FOMO on rare/expensive monthly gamble loot (daily logins chain into a final monthly reward). you'll most likely spend this logged in time participating in activities such as horse breeding -- which allows you to autowalk to level them (being part of the afk BDO botnet). BDO wants to be inclusive, but it's really meant for those with high-end PCs because otherwise you're missing out on the only good part: the graphics.

the whole goal of BDO is to gear your character so you can survive in pvp/pve, but the mechanics of pvp/pve feel so bad that it isn't worth doing. so why would you play BDO to participate in something that sucked balls to begin with?

Most of the praise I see for BDO is based on things other than combat, mainly the life skill elements in particular. It would seem for those so inclined that combat and the related numbers, and the other issues routinely critiqued, aren't so important they override what they do enjoy about the game.

An appeal not shared by you, or understood by you, doesn't negate it for those that have it. If everyone wanted the exact same game there would be only one to have.

So, the reason some play BDO is tastes vary, and the only taste that matters when choosing what to play is your own.

Have been playing for quite a while now, and it is one of my favourite games, i don't engage in any kind of combat, about the only time i engage in PVE combat is for guild quests, usually killing various mobs in kamy usually no more than 3 times a week. Currently 26% towards level 63, but only because i leave my character overnight bashing the training dummies, don't want to waste my actual play time on grinding after all  :p

Suprised you play this game considering Tencent has invested money in Kakao and i noticed in the other thread you said you have concerns about Tencents investment in Epic

That's exactly why we have the incredibly punishing RNG system in BDO, yep.
The entire thing is built around the cash shop and has become increasingly more P2W over the years.

I would love to see a hybrid of BDO's graphics and combat system with more traditional western gameplay systems for the leveling and the gearing.

Alas... Western devs don't care about graphics enough. And Korean devs can't even begin to fathom the notion of not having a P2W gearing system and ridiculous amounts of grind in their games.

So the cycle continues. Ugly western games with decent gameplay. Pretty Korean titles with P2W trash systems built around the cash shop. FFXIV is probably the best middle ground I've found so far.

I've had the game for a couple of years and the PvE was so bland and uninspiring I gave up on it.  I've tried a couple of times to get into it, but the uninteresting PvE puts me off it again.

I have a lot of concerns about Tencent, its not about influence though, but the insidious nature of their investments and how much access to data they have. By now Tencent has a lot of fingers in a lot of pies and that in of itself is also concerning. :/
