Yea, but no one will though.
I don't understand. PvPers claim that PvP community is huge, and games should consider them. You get an open world PvP optin game. If PvP community is THAT big, there will be enough PvPers roaming the world to keep you on your toes. Or you only PvP if you can get easy prey? Just a thought....
Edit: this is not to say that I fully like this solution, If I even understood what the approach will be... Videos and interviews are "illusive" to say the least, so who knows how it will play...
If players could toggle off their PVP in Fortnite the rounds would never end. It's not about easy prey, that's not what a pvper want's that's what a douchbag wants and they exist in every game not just pvp games and will pray on unsuspecting noobs at every turn. What people are complaining about here with a "toggle" is it completely removes the rush, thrill, and excitement of a pvp game.
You can have entire zones that are not allowed to have pvp in, similar to empire space in Eve or the blue (wrong color?) zones in Albion, but there is not "toggle" so when you venture out into the danger areas where pvp is allowed you are watching your back. It's just as much excitement being hunted as it is hunting for the players that enjoy this. being able to just "flip a switch" and not have to worry breaks it.
If that doesn't help you "understand" then you probably never will and probably enter cheat codes in single player games because you can't handle losing.
But none of that would be an issue if the toggle was only useable in a factions capital. Once you head out into the world it is what it is. The upside to this is that all players, both pve and pvp, can enjoy the entire world instead of pvpers having access to all of it and pve players don’t.

Does the way your toggle work mean that you turn it on only in the capital and it remains that way wherever you go and you cannot change it again except in the capital. Meaning if I turn on a toggle for PvE I can then leave the capital and go anywhere and another player cannot attack me. If I wish to change my status I go back to the capital and change it.
As much as I am pulling for this game to come through, I gotta admit I am very skeptical and very worried about it. Being an Alpha player and seeing what content the game had and then them taking the servers down, informing the players what they were planning on doing and then officially releasing less than a year after the alpha went down seems a bit odd... No team could put a good amount of PvE content in a game in less than a year...especially coming from what PvE content the game had in Alpha.. which was very little to begin with.
I dont know... Going from a full fledged PvP game than completely putting the breaks on and completely changing the scope of the game in less than a year comes off as too hasty and no real identity as to what they even want this game to be.

Those rift like spawn stones will be a serious fail in design.Eventualy players will be strong enough where a few can sit at that spawn stone and just aoe everything as fast as it spawns. So then what turn the game into a ARPG just spam killing everything that spawns?
They have guilds, talk about guilds,is there even any player functions/abilities/spells that aim at GROUP play?Or is it really just a bunch of soloer's wearing a guild tag?
How far and thin are these "protector" creatures of each territory,or are they only spawned at those stones making for a guild hot spot with more problems arising?
There is way too little shown on the actual game play, devs want to instead make videos that give a GLIMPSE of something great, basically trying to fool it's audience.
IMO if the dev has nothing good to show they won't and can't show us,so either they have nothing except these hints/glimpses or they are too dumb to actually market the real positives of the game,if it has any.
IDC about warring factions, players will see their 3 PALTRY choices in the start up creation screen.I don't really care about the creatures either unless they want to show me how they have written really good combat scripts for them or WHY they are even in the game.
What is the actual PVE of the game and don't give me that "exploration" crap, that last about 2-3 days then what? Then the crafting, simply crafting to supply your guild is laughable, the little that goes in to this,MOST players wil be making their own stuff otherwise they will get VERY little out of the game, pvp or bust.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

This is like taking a very hardcore PvP game, adding one instanced dungeon to it, and saying "look, there safe is PvE content!".
The changes New World received go soooo much further than toggle PvP. The game as it was in alpha, versus what it is right now, is completely different. Even if they slapped a PvP server onto the current game, you'd still be looking at completely gutted or removed systems that made the open world PvP work in the first place.
The only way for New World to solve that, is to quite literally do a complete revert back the state of their game ~8 months ago. This would be an admission of defeat however, so it will not happen. New World will forever be stuck doing... whatever it aims to be, like who even knows at this point, certainly not the developers themselves.

To be fair, Fortnight is a Battle Royal Game, the whole point, and ONLY point of Fortnight is to fight to the death.
This is where MMO's divide, it is not the PvP that is the problem, it is when I am dealing with a difficult Mob, or harvesting, or crafting, or maybe in the middle of a jump puzzle, and some jackass ganks me that is the problem.
Let me give you an idea to the level of douchebaggery people stoop to, in GW2, they had a jump puzzle in the WvW Zones, now WvW Zones are Faction Based PvP. Teams would set up Siege weapons in the Jump Puzzle to just to troll the players trying to do the jump puzzle.
This is really a problem that every game MMO with PvP faces, is players trolling other players.
See in Fortnight, the whole idea is to keep killing till you either win or die, but once you die, you go a safe place, character select or the waiting yard, and wait for the match to start.
Now imagine if someone could kill you while you were in character select and looking at the store.
That is what MMO's PvP feels like.
And that is why players don't like it.
The idea with the toggles, again, if not enough people would be PvP On o make the PvP a noticable pat of the game, then maybe PvP was not a good thing for the game as a whole.
Which is the point many people are trying to make.
Egotism is the anesthetic that dullens the pain of stupidity, this is why when I try to beat my head against the stupidity of other people, I only hurt myself.
Same like bless, astellia and etc. garbage huh. Honestly looks.... average and unpromising. Knowing amazon management and that they're making a mmo, which needs a lot of management and proper decision making is a big black hole for me. The lack of info and their "shady" hidding of info also doesn't seem good with "overhauling closed BETA game before releasing it in ~8 months".
Hopefully it has sth to offer to not be burried in its own coffin at release, because the hype ppl are giving this game is huge and with the draught the mmo community has nowadays the flop of new hyped mmo is a death flag.

If the option is only in the capital then it’s really location based, like I said about Eve and Albion and others, and not a full toggle. Then it’s no longer a discussion and the toggle is only for pvp in high security areas.
The “upside” you speak of completely changes the game. If they don’t shift the game 100% to pve then it will not be either and just be a complete pile if shit.
It's not location based like high sec. He's saying you can only turn PvP on while in the main city, then you must venture out into the world pvp flagged. This is how war-mode in WoW works. You cannot turn PvP on out in the wild when you see someone. You have to decide to PvP flag before venturing out. Once you toggle this on you are 100% PvP-able anywhere anytime.

Forced PvP games today need to compete with MOBAs and Battle Royales. The former is all the group PvP game play with the annoying forced grinding toned down to bite-sized sessions, while the latter is all the "gank someone when they're at a disadvantage and full-loot their corpse" either completely without the annoying forced grinding or with it toned down to bite-sized sessions.
The only audience niche left for a forced PvP game is those that are interested in resource-zone contesting and particularly massive siege battles, and that's assuming the MMORPG pulls off resource-zone contesting and siege battles right in the first place (which is a lot harder to design in a fun and functional way than just slapping players into an arena and letting them duke it out like MOBAs or Battle Royales do, and also has much bigger lag issues and a need for a much larger player base)
I guess any forced PvP game also needs to compete with Eve in the west (and Lineage in the east, I guess?). That game probably has what's left of the niche "Resource-zone contesting" player base, and IIRC even that's shrinking.
I'm glad it's consensual pvp. Never been a big fan of the full on PvP, After playing Ultima Online, Meridian 59, archage, and a few others. The open world PvP seems to come down to, "hey look, they mining or fighting a monster. I can get a few shots in before they can react, that way i'll win their loot because I'm cool like that."
My friend has been testing it and says there's still a lot of work to do, but looks promising for him.

Yea, but no one will though.
Correct. When given the chance to pvp vs other people who choose pvp, most folks won't. 99% of PvP MMO players don't want consensual PvP.
People don't flag for PVP by default because they start with a disadvantage. Other players will see you flagged and they can opt into PVP right when you are fighting 10 other mobs so they start with an advantage over you.
If, however, you allow forced PVP, even if this situation is still the same, it allows you the option to revenge your death in the same way which otherwise without forced PVP would be impossible.
What makes you think people wont wait for you to fight a mob before attacking you in forced PvP?
Here's an idea. If you want full loot PvP so bad, how about you just toss out your gear every time you lose a fight and start over, because 99% of the times the person you just killed won't have anything you want and taking their stuff is little more than a dick move.
No such thing as forced pvp. When you don't buy a game you don't want to play you don't have to abide by its rule set.
Not hard.
If a game hits 99% of everything you love in an MMO, and you thoroughly enjoy playing every aspect of the game with the exception of open world PvP, one might say PvP is being forced on you.
It would be no different if New World gave you everything you wanted in an MMO as well as remained full loot, open world PvP but the only way to get gear is to craft it and you hate crafting. You might say crafting is forced on you because you really want to play the game for everything else it offers.
Of course, nothing is literally being forced on anyone... it's a game. But gaming is a hobby most people here enjoy and pretending you don't understand the context of how "forced" is being used here is silly.
It is ridiculous that anyone thinks the word 'forced' is used like someone is literally forced in the real physical sense. You feel forced in many situations to do things you have no wish to do and games are no exception.
How many people have you seen complaining about being forced to take a up a craft in a game when they have absolutely no desire to do so. You see all over the forums people using the term forced.

Only if trading isn’t allowed, which is another checkbox so if it doesn’t have trading/market then I don’t play.
When you want to play a game, because some of the aspects look interesting. But you'll have to face the danger of other players attacking you, just to enjoy the other stuff then it feels like you are forced to confront that aspect of the game.
Though PvP can be fun, it's not something everyone wants to face when playing. I want to explore this dungeon, but i don't want to be faced with the PvP combat. Yes I can run, but yet I can't get to anything good unless i FORCE myself to face that PvP chance of the game.
Only if trading isn’t allowed, which is another checkbox so if it doesn’t have trading/market then I don’t play.
Like he said. Simple. Don’t be silly.
Well then 99% of the game doesn't appeal to you and you wouldn't apply to my example of why someone would feel forced.
I love how people try to get so specific on a generalization. Silly is thinking your very specific example is the only possible way and that everything outside of your narrow viewpoint is invalid.

If it has pvp and you don’t like pvp then don’t play. IT’S NOT FORCED. I love how people are so narrow minded to think that only your opinion matters. Fool.
Not having trading is the ONE thing, like having pvp to you, that I wouldn’t want. So stupid.
I thought, I wear like shirts and pants a lot. But uh... this is very different. No one buys multiple shirts with the same color and design in the front. Plain shirts like me, yah, but not this lmao. Hilarious. But of course this could all be fake I don’t know.

Kyleran on yours sincerely
'But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.'
Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...
'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'
Gdemami absolutely not being an armchair developer
My friend has been testing it and says there's still a lot of work to do, but looks promising for him.
mmm, okay, that's not a good thing.
How many people have you seen complaining about being forced to take a up a craft in a game when they have absolutely no desire to do so. You see all over the forums people using the term forced.
Well then 99% of the game doesn't appeal to you and you wouldn't apply to my example of why someone would feel forced.
