Well, at least they aren't a random chance from a box, right?

$60 for the game and then they still charge for battle passes PER character? Wow. Have fun with this BS.

I miss Marvel Heroes.  All heros earnable for free and the entire roster of this game including spiderman playable plus twenty times more (besides Kamala)

And summoner characters. But that's a particularly personal preference.

Too bad Gazillion and the game really went downhill after Brevik left IMHO

Honestly isn't a new SE tactic. just look at how they tried to do Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. "Design your own pre-order" lul which blew up in their face but they still went on with one-time use microtransactions. Unfortunately, this was just a license to print money for SE, just like FFXIV has been for them and their monthly updated cash shop (most items being character bound/gender specific even though they have an item gender converting npc in game) in a p2p game....oh but don't worry, its all optional!

Not a surprise, the game itself is poorly optimized which wouldnt be so bad if it wasnt dull and mindless but it is. All the heroes are essentially the same from the Hulk to the Black Widow so they are going to nickle and dime fans based on "hope" that the next hero might be more fun to play.

It really is like Anthem, nice looking but nothing under the surface but that wont stop them trying to gouge you at every opportunity.

Seasons passes/battle passes whatever they are called just added another layer to what was already a hobby going south.Cash shops ruined everything for me then came loot boxes and now seasons passes are like the icing on the cake.
Devs now days are just so scummy, they will exploit every foolish spender on the planet if they can and will. These foolish spenders ruin it for everyone,it keeps devs doing it.
The best thing that could happen is if nobody bought the game, now wouldn't that be a slap in the face and a wake up call, sadly those foolish people will hand over their wallets.

I got to witness first hand watching a recent fortnite steam where they had that rapper go giant large in game. What i saw were VERY young teenagers, some didn't even look to be of legal age spending like madmen on cash shop attire/costumes.

Older people are often not too intelligent in their spending but young kids, easy fodder for these exploiting developers.

The characters are still no additional cost. Battle Pass doesn't give you the character....

I know everyone REALLY wants to hate this game, but disingenuous articles like this need to stop. Fire people up with a clickbait title about battle passes while completely neglecting to mention everything that they actually did RIGHT about the system: the starting batch of characters have theirs unlocked for free, the rewards include more than enough of the paid currency to unlock each new character's pass as they're released and still pick up stuff from the marketplace, and most importantly to me they never expire so there's no FOMO.

If we're going to complain about something, let it be the REAL problems like performance, longevity of gameplay or, I don't know, maybe Sony buying exclusive rights to an entire iconic character for their platform.

This article is incredibly misleading. It is kind of missing the whole thing: The battlepass does not work like a traditional battlepass. You unlock it forever, there is only one per character and ALL 6 of the characters have one unlocked free when you purchase the game. So you can't even buy one until the first new hero comes out. You also get 1k store currency within each hero's track so, the base game includes 6000 in-game earnable free credits you can use to buy new heroes. Each new hero that comes out will have 1k credits within their pass as well. So you never have to pay for a single battlepass if you want and you would probably still have credits to buy costumes.

THANK YOU to the two people who posted before me. I was reading this article and was about to chime in because the writer of the article is spreading bad information and now has the people who already planned on hating the game, to give them more bait. You get a total of 7800 credits for FREE just for finishing the cards on the 6 heroes at launch. You DO NOT have to pay for any additional cards. It's really up to you to decide, do you want to buy cosmetics? or do you want to save 1000 credits for the next heroes card? SE is being quite generous with what they have implemented in this game. FFXIV...20 million subs and tons of cosmetics, mounts, and dyes locked behind a store. If you really think cash shop type items are going to hold them back you are sorely mistaken. Now game play, content, and whatnot....that's another story. We'll see at launch!

The sad thing is that sheeple will probably complain for a while then settle for this. It will work.

God damn! I hope(though expect the opposite) that it will fail, just so Bobby Kotick and co don't get any bright ideas.

Just being curious here, as I haven't followed the game. If, as has been pointed out, you can get enough points from "completing" the core characters (whatever the heck that means), to buy future passes and continue the cycle over and over, who is the dollar amount aimed at? If it were that easy to play and never make the purchase, why have the option? For people who want to play, but not with the core heroes?

Honestly, may get a lot of hate for this but I really like this system and I hate battle passes.

The first 6 OG avengers are free. Then when a new hero shows up you pay 1,000 credits but if you finish the battle pass you get the 1,000 you spent back with 6,000 extra because that is how much is on the battle pass board. On top of that Battle passes don't expire. So you can do the same one for a year. As someone with a family this is super nice as I can take my time grinding out a battle pass and I don't have to worry about losing the skin I wanted.

To me this is the most consumer friendly battlepass yet. Still shady in a $60 game but they have done enough that I can respect what they are doing. The fact that Battlepasses don't expire is a huge win for me as I usually hate seeing a cool skin in a battlepass and knowing I will never achieve it without money.

Edit: Plus IF the game is good I have no problem buying a skin every few months or supporting a battle pass as long as they keep to there word and keep all DLC free including characters, story, raids, etc... If content is going to be free forever like they keep saying than I have no problem throwing them a bone.

I hate how in AC though they have skins and the like for sale but then charge $15 for an expansion.

Came here for this. This is super important to note! Avengers' Battle Pass system is for sure the most player friendly I've seen yet.

I'm not sure how to feel about this.

This game has just managed to continuously poison it's own well with Spiderman exclusivity, mobile carrier skins, 5 gum promotions, and all sorts of other tacky bullshit.

I enjoyed myself during the beta, but this game is trying REALLY hard to make people hate it.

Selling an Avengers game should be the easiest task on earth.

This is a pretty fair system to sustain a live service game - you get your character for free and you pay for cosmetics.

This article could have at least included the fact that the 6 launch heroes have their premium passes unlocked for free already. Not to mention that those may include the 1000 FREE credits from completing them, each.

Even if the launch ones don't include the credits, at MOST you only have to spend $10 ONCE, complete the battle pass, and use the earned credits to buy the next one. Repeat.

Also, the exclusive stuff is literally all cosmetic fluff, don't need any of it for actual gameplay. All additional content added that matters is completely FREE, forever.

If you want more free characters and content, you have to accept the fact that they need funding from somewhere, and TBH I am shocked they even let you earn your credits back through the passes. I would have been completely fine with just paying $10 for each DLC pass anyways (probably still will, to support a game I love). Beyond fair system imo.

I was already on the fence about this game. I think this was the push I needed to NOT get it. Give us paid DLC, but don't nickel and dime me when I'm already paying you for the game.

Paid DLC? So, like $10 for every additional DLC character they add? Pretty much the industry standard at this point? I'm sorry I'm just confused as to why you are willing to pay for DLC (characters and their missions/content) but not their battle passes. This way at least gives you all the DLC for free, and only charges for some cosmetic fluff if you want it.

Also again, it's at most only $10, one time payment. Each premium battle pass let's you earn back the 1000 credits you spend on it. No time limit. This means you can just keep using those to buy the next pass and so forth. All launch characters premium passes are unlocked for free too, so there's that.

Nope, the most player friendly system is to charge one price for the whole game and not do any exclusives or paid DLC. The second most player friendly system is having a small number of expansions that's actually worth the price and doesn't make you grind for hours.

And how long do you have to grind to get those 1000 credits back? How many players do you think have the time to actually do that?

The points towards the battle passes are earned through daily and weekly challenges, pretty easy ones at that, from what I gathered playing the beta. Not really much grinding to do tbh, can take it at your own pace. Also this is an action looter shooter style game, so grinding kind of comes with the territory. The battle pass challenges are just something that happen naturally as you play.

The points earned towards the battle pass are gained through daily and weekly challenges. Pretty easy ones at that, from what I gathered from the beta. Not much grinding to do at all tbh. Can take it at your own pace, as they are not time limited. Also this is an action looter shooter style game, so grinding kind of comes with the territory. The battle pass challenges kind of complete themselves naturally as you play. At least they did for me... Just running around on Hulk for like 45 minutes I managed to complete both dailies and the weekly without even trying.
