At least a company letting everyone test and play several weeks per year to decide whether or not they want to join now or wait for further development (current status Alpha 3.11) or specific gameplay implementation.
As reminder, should someone decide to pledge for a starter package, all others ships are available with in game credits (UEC)

Why farm credits like a low tier citizen when you can buy an Idris from the store?

Regardless of my other opinions about CIG, the Freefly Event has always been a good move. It will turn some folks off, but bring some new folks in.
If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

Just more marketing strategy to keep bringing in the money for a never ending, i guess you call it game design?
The scary part? Even if they eventually put out a decent game, the amount of money they took to do it is just completely ridiculous.
A never ending supply of fools and their money....

Yet they ARE in fact opening it up and letting people go in and take a peek at what actually exists.
So, while I will relentlessly call out my disappointment that SQ42 is 6 years late and no where to be seen, they ABSOLUTELY deserve credit for letting new potential players see what exists before ponying up.

Also removes the excuse for the negative bias of the haters who blindly attack the game with no first hand experience.
All while showing that the game, even in a alpha stage for so long keeps bringing new players every year while making millions in the process.
Seems like all the hype & hate just keep the interest going and going!
You're right, it does remove the negative bias of the haters. It often confirms their bias by being a shitshow.
Yeah that's why twitch streamers and viewers spike along with funding. Ofc real data holds no value compared with hater's unicorns
Wait, what? What do their small number of twitch viewers (6.7k right now) have to do with being able to try out the game to see for themselves that it is a laggy, bug-ridden mess?

Talk about a non-sequitur.
Well I'm sure you're not aware of the niche that is the space sim genre but Elite:Dangerous also became Free2Play at the same time and is getting different numbers despite being a "released" game.

What shitshow? PU is totally stable and show is going well.
But better not mention multi-billionaires companies that struggle to launch a game without few days connections issues despite knowing the date quarters ahead... CIG is Evil we all know it

Err, until the day SC actually "launches" it's probably better to not discuss it's stability on that future date.
No telling what sort of hilarity might ensue consideing atm the PU has but a smidgen of traffic vs what can be expected upon release.
If and when said release date ever occurs of course...

Kyleran on yours sincerely
'But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.'
Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...
'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'

This is the Prowler assault ship based precisely on an Alien race which have some similarities with Bird
Note: helmet with bird face looking are for human, not the Tevarin
