Serious chance that all SC will be able to offer when it comes out is better graphics. It will be very noticeable that ED will have so many more polished gameplay systems in place when SC launches. Also I question how much game we will get when SC launches, it still looks like a simulator.

SC is designed with multiplayer, PvP/org play, the space sim MMO in a primary mind, that will always be the core aspect that will fundamentally change how both titles play and the players that so play them.
Beyond visuals, for those who long something more MMO-like, it is what a lot of peeps want from SC and ED is superficial at, that otherwise, even X4 Foundations would have cut that deal, wouldn't it.
Elite Dangerous is a staple for avid VR users. It's nothing short of amazing to sit in and pilot your ship rather than looking at it on a monitor. It will be interesting to see how ED makes this aspect VR capable, if they can.
ED starts with a "real" Galaxy, space flight simulation, and a host of other activities. Now with the human element added, it will offer many of the things we look for in a space adventure.

ED has PVP and org play as well. What it doesn't have is SC's forced PvP because it's not looking to be abandoned after all the "wolves" annoy the "sheep" enough for the "sheep" to leave, taking their cosmetic buying wallets with them.
Face it Pig, this just finished hammering the nail into Scam Citizen. Why, I wonder how many "loyal" SC players have just been biding time waiting for Odyssey so they can finally put SC in their rear views?
The only ones left playing SC will be the noobs who know they can't just plunk out some cash for the best firepower in ED.
Oh it's nowhere on the same level, it's optional at the very core allowing solo mode, it's not an organic part of the game and it's designed as such, it's not a problem it just appeals to people who look for something like that.
What nail? The same one X4 supposedly hammered because of similar feature sets? You don't get the point, SC is going for an MMO-like experience and player interaction, co-op & pvp level made core to how it plays added to a generally similar feature-set that is something ED is nowhere on the same level at neither does it have the player density by its own design to make it so, sorry to burst your bubble but this mentality of "one trumps the other" acting like it's the same game & experience both titles are going for is simply incorrect.

Nice Unicorn but it's just showcasing how clueless you guys are about both games while exposing your obsession with Star Citizen lol
Your darling shows you their new lingerie but you can only think about your true love.
But seriously, In case you guys haven't been paying attention (confess, you really haven't played or know much about both games) Elite uses a hybrid network solution but it's a Offline game at heart with some multiplayer capability by using Peer-2-Peer to connect players with each other by having one player hosting a instance for another or "invading" the bubble of another player, but only if they so desire as people can choose to play alone or in a private group if they desire.
Star Citizen uses the traditional MMORPG approach with a server who creates the universe to which players connect so everyone shares the same gameplay area, npc's, quests without instancing. Also don't forget that Elite was designed as a Space Ship game first which is just now shoehorning avatar gameplay that has been available in Star Citizen for years.
For those technical reasons alone Elite: Dangerous will never be able provide the gameplay freedom and seamlessness of Star Citizen. Simple things like seamlessly leaving your ship's cockpit and walk around inside your ship while it flies. Leaving your Ship and EVA into a space station, board other players ship's, steal that other players ships, have a friend drive a vehicle into your ship cargo area and join you in the co-pilot seat and so on.

VR is not supported in this expansion.
It seems it will be supported after all:
Can I play Odyssey in VR?
Odyssey will be compatible with VR and you’ll be able to enjoy the same
fully-featured cockpit experience players have enjoyed in Elite
Dangerous so far. When leaving the cockpit of your ship or SRV, VR
players will see a projected screen on which they can continue their
journey without removing their helmets. They may also remove their
helmet if they choose. VR is only compatible with Elite Dangerous on PC.

There's no rule that says you have to play only one game so that tribalism is kinda idiotic, but I'm sorry to inform you but it's been the way around for a couple of years now, more and more Elite Dangerous vets spending more and more time playing Star Citizen.
OK everyone this is an Elite Dangerous article for people playing the game or may want to buy it and play it, whatever you do, don't mention Star C... awww fuck... nm they're already here.

Not sure why people always want to make it a SC vs ED thing.. fangirling aside most sci fi space game enthusiast won't give bugger about that and will likely have a foot in both like I do.
Looking forward to the new ED Odyssey even if there is some things I do not like...like how they dropped VR support as once you go VR in ED there no going back really.....
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

Star Citizen is going for a MMO-like experience, and ED is nowhere near the level where Star Citizen is planning to be.
But on the other hand after 8 years of development Star Citizen still has not managed to implement their multi-server tech. After Odyssey is launched Elite will be roughly at the same level with Star Citizen.

If I am wrong when SC launches I will be happy to say so, this is a genre (Space "MMO") I love, which has few new entries each decade! SC just needs to launch in this one and then we shall see.
I love ED, I just dont play it exactly for the reasons people are mentioning. MMO gameplay is very shallow. I love fiddling with my ship, the look, the feel but then l I and up endlesly jumping, jumping, doing chores, etc. Something doesnt quiet work with ED. Not sure if FPS mode is the solution. Not for me as I dont play FPS games, maybe for kids, who knows. But it is lacking the social space gameplay elements.
Havent tried SC yet, X4 is also great but solo gets boring after a while.

SC doesn't need to "launch" for you to be wrong. It's about hard technical server and engine limitations and game design choices. Both games are set in space but focus on different things, just like Elite will never have the seamless player to player interaction of Star Citizen due to it's p2p nature Star Citizen will never have a whole galaxy with billions of planets to land on. And that's perfectly fine, because people can play multiple games and change between different experiences all the time. More options is always better than less.

Until a game launches you don't know what you will get, do I even have to mention New World? True, SC does not have a history of changing course during development but until launch there is no certainty.

That does not matter much, it already is a far more focused MP experience with the player density and player interaction (without the multi-server or the server pop caps wanted) than ED is as fully released, that alone should be more than self-evident about the core difference between both titles as far gameplay goes.

Yeah it's exactly how I feel about ED, I don't stress at it either because it's also not the game experience it was designed for, for someone who looks for the MMO-like vibe attm it's really SC who is delivering there, the player density the design at the core being on player interaction both co-op/pvp is exactly what makes the game fun for me and as far I talk with other peeps who play it's the same thing for them; the incomplete and unstable nature of the game is what holds it back.
True VR is a heck of a lot more than simply where you place a camera and the FOV view. This game will be long dead before any true VR form takes place.
The video also showed me VERY little, definitely nothing to write home about or to intrigue me.Did it show me more than SC's laughable fly over videos, yes but that is like being better than utter crap which doesn't make your slightly better fly over look good ,just better.
I know what Elite is trying to do and i am perfectly ok with the design ideas but it is simply not good enough.I already mentioned in the past,we are not ready for this type of game yet and neither is this developer. A space sci fi game is like making 2-3 games in one,far more difficult than any mmorpg yet these small studios are TRYING to pull it off, well you can't pull it off,at least not without looking like an Indie game.
Can i say "decent" effort?Sure i can but are we not striving for AAA games and not Indie games?
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

We know when it's a game in open development that's publicly available.
We're talking about basic technology and it's capabilities and limitations, not game design choices.
You can't drastically change the backbone of your game engine network infrastructure to do something it was never meant to do in the first place unless you start from scratch.
Just like Star Citizen gameplay features are designed with a Server/Client in mind Elite gameplay features were designed with Peer-2-Peer in mind.
This fundamental difference in the backbone of each game completely changes not only HOW things are done but WHAT can be done radically enough that they will never be able to offer the same experience. And I'm not talking about graphics but the actual gameplay impact of how players interact and what they can actually do ingame.
What % of ships that were sold as packages are completed?
Around 70%. Up to 100+ flyable ships and about 10+ ground vehicles. All fully modelled from the inside & out with their own unique designed interiors, components, personalized damaged models, emergency states and so on.
In case you're wondering how it currently compares with ED since you don't play it. it has 40 ships and 1 ground vehicle available. From 40 ships one has the privilege of having a damage model. No interiors besides cockpit.
A Star Citizen basic package gives access to all the current and future content. With Elite paid expansions usually introduced the best PVP/PVE components so to stay competitive you have to buy them. (Engeniers)
Does SC work seamlessly with it's
intended persistent universe vision?
Yes, the only loading screen is the initial one when the players logs into the game. The rest of the interactions are seamlessly in a uninstanced universe.
Which game had $300+ invested and
is still in Alpha after 8-10 years of development?
A product investors feel confident about will generate funding for a longer time and as it's value increases more investors join and more funding it generates.
Anyway, in case you haven't realised by now, engaging in a pissing contest using 2 games you knows very little about it's not the brightest idea. But I'll indulge you with a tiny bit of information.
The features showed in the Elite trailer have been in Star Citizen for a while now in a more seamless and cohesive implementation because the game was designed as a first person avatar game from the ground up. And while they will add another layer of gameplay to ED but it won't change the fundamental aspects of it's core that were already discussed in previous posts, which means you'll probably keep your stance.
