ESO, really?!?! Has anyone actually played it beyond the generic casual pve-rp focus that's entirely centered around their cash shop. Several years old (some since launch) bugs everywhere, lag and performance issues that have only become more common and worse since launch, tiny content additions that would barely be passable if they were included in the sub yet alone a separate fee, broken features (the delve/bg que system), and the constant delaying/cancelling of their already boring generic events because they can't/won't fix their game yet add new cash shop items every week.

Jeez, I would never have thought pubg mobile would make money like that. I never even heard of honor of kings, though I dont game on mobile.

However you wish to look at it. Paying for a subscription that basically pays for the DLC and Expansions versus say WoW or FFXIV which paying for their subscription is only to play the game, you're still paying full price for the expansions, so I'm not seeing the logic in your argument.
All of WoW’s previous expansions are also available for free with sub. In fact, with the new level squish, and trial to level 20, most of them are totally free now. Before Shadowlands, the last Xpac I paid for was Wrath of the Lich King. That’s 4 free Xpacs.
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
Because more people voted for ESO? Just like AC: V, people voted for it because they like the game. Don't be surprised when a majority of others don't share your interests. Apex Legends won... again. Does that surprise you too?
Most of those games wouldn't be my choice either, but this is a popularity poll to find out what the majority of people like, not what a few posters think everyone else should like.
Half the comments in this thread make me think there are quite a few people who don't understand how voting works.
You seem to fail to grasp my point.
I am well aware these are just a popularity polls, which again, makes we wonder why WoW didn't win, when it has more active subs than the population of the other top 3 MMO's combined.
Wow did win ..
Go to right side of main page scroll down to Most Popular Games

Now we actually see which game is most Popular here and most discussed by actual members ..
The other poll is a rigged easily manipulated advertising tool
By your logic, Chronicles of Elyria probably would have won because it was talked about a lot. Thanks for clearing that up, lol.
I realize you are working with everything God gave but plz try harder,
As CoE does not even approach the top 5 in over a year .. Or ever for that matter..
Dont mind any of the results except best rpg.. The list wasn't that great honestly and AC being the best rpg of the year is a joke. The best AC game wouldn't be the best rpg this year. There's just so many better "rpg" games out there, not saying its a bad game but in a category just of rpg then no.

People can play WoW completely sub free with tokens from AH. Currently the cost of a token is 117k gold which is very easy to make.
Previous expansions are only free once a new expansion comes out. So sure, if you want to ALWAYS be one expansion behind everyone, you can surely do that for free.
It’s the same as ESO in that regard, no? Unlike ESO, you can play (almost) any of them for free without a sub in WoW.

Sort of but WoW's current method is simpler: no need to buy the game, just sub, and you get it all except the most recent Xpac.
In ESO you still need to buy the base game and if you sub, you don't get it all because they carve out pieces of previous Xpacs (Warden and Necro classes for example) and those are not included with the sub but need to be bought with crowns.
WoW's system is better and much less confusing with no hidden "gotchas."

For everyone who is unhappy about ESO winning.. what Game would you have voted for?
If I would have voted in this poll I would have voted for ESO too. I think it's the best MMO on the market right now. I don't like how WoW basically resets itself every season. I hate that most people rush to cap in less than a month and then it's all about raid grinding.
I did vote and I voted for Elder Scrolls Online. Not because I think it's better than World of Warcraft but because I like it better than World of Warcraft. World of Warcraft does a lot of things well, it's just not my type of game.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

ESO's wholesale level scaling kept every little bit of the game relevant as did their post level cap Diablo-3-like Champion Points system where you continue leveling for passives. So the relevant content you can play is immense. They were also very smart in adding item sets (and those sets are like 1/3 to 1/2 of your power progression) to all zones that drop at your level. Even those who have no interest in the story content of a zone still have reasons to go there for those sets.
WoW has even more content but their partial commitment to scaling and accelerated leveling makes most of their content irrelevant.
You can also rush to cap in ESO but the CP and gear systems make that rush pretty meaningless in the context of power progression.
My recency bias forced my hand and I voted for WoW but that's just because I'm enjoying Shadowlands after not having played WoW for years and I'm burnt out on ESO at the moment. I was going to vote or one or the other of those two though.

I guess either I am getting old or getting passed by...subscription model is still my choice for best way for a consumer to get the best bang for their buck.

That's something I noticed over time as well, and not been thrilled about either. The crown store has definitely become more and more present in the game. Not in the "we'll make the game super grindy so you'll feel compelled to buy items to remedy it" approach used in other MMOs. But more in the use of FOMO, by introducing a regular stream of time-limited pets, mounts, etc. to the crown store, to entice people to buy and spend more crowns.
Early on, I thought they had a good balance of Crown Store to in-game content. It's definitely moved further toward the Crown Store. All while still heavily incentivizing ESO+ to get people to sub.
After thinking about this, what I play, and why, I have to say that I don't always play what I consider the "best" game(s). I play what interests me, but when it comes to multiplayer games I play first with people I enjoy over "the best" in a category.
What I'm saying is that even though I probably find ESO "better" I would rather play with my friends in WoW over playing ESO with randos. I keep playing Fallout 76 because I enjoy the people not only because I like the game. Playing with friends matters more than a lot of other factors.
Ive always said that , its more about the people than the game itself , i have a group of friends the core group is 8 ,, Been playing MMOs together since Asherons Call ..
We just go into games together have a static group toon and any alts you want for levleing ..
Once in while we will all list 5 MMOs interested in jumping in ... We take the 3 that show up the most and vote on those .. We all jump into the winner ..
Ive considered joining this Fallout 76 group here .. But if rub any feathers wrong it may ruin relationships here as some of these people i really like as members here ..

"Hey dudes there are hand held consoles out there releasing rpg's"
"Yeah but let's not add those to the list so ubisoft throws us a bone at Q1 for some ad rev"
I mean it was either that or Atlus with persona royale and we all know how well their ads do here.
