Crafting is a mechanic I can completely do without as I totally don't get the appeal but apparently some folks enjoy which is fine as long as I'm not feeling pressured to do it myself as was the case in many early games like L2 or DAOC.
I never crafted in Lineage 2. I just bought from crafters or finished items. I have to say that with the exception of Elder Scrolls Online, I never crafted for anything useful.
I tried crafting in Lord of the Rings Online but quickly outgrew the entry-level gear I could craft and "grinding out" crafting so I could make usable gear was not going to happen.

So I have done some commenting in the other threads on this. One thing that was not mentioned in those: The game is still in Beta.
It's an optional sub... but still.. a sub for an unreleased game is kind of icky. I have no issue with the content or pricing because it's roughly what they stated in the Kickstarter but the timing... not a fan.
The way you flip flop on subjects makes me wonder if you're just an alt account of @Kyleran... saying whatever will get you the most forum points.
You in the other thread...
"Now they are adding an OPTIONAL sub... for $12? And that sub was
actually stated in the Original Kickstarter 6 years ago... I do not see
an issue. Sure it is $12 vs the $10 that was stated in the Kickstarter
but people also got to play for 6 years for free.

one-time purchases."

If you actually played the game you'd know that the game is in early access and has been for YEARS and one of those years almost no work was done on the game. This is a side project for them NOT a beta and the lack of concern about moderation/choosing tyrant mods(I have one in my guild)proves the only thing they are about was/is the $ coming in from sales.. Once in a while they get motivated again and do stuff but the line about "VIP money going to further development" is complete BS to anyone who has played the game for an extended period of time. EVERYTHING added to the game is done whenever they get around to it AND all those "temporary placeholders" like the character models are still there like they were 2+ years ago. Oh, some tooltip images get changes sometimes that cost $25 on the Unity asset store, sorry I forgot about that..
Did you happen to notice they made a "limited" number of founders packs available for purchase on their site again? You know those packs one of which is $500 that has features listed that are no where near being added to the game like housing... They're "limited" though for some unknown reason so you better hurry and buy them before they're all gone!!!
It really seems like with the wipe of vendor reputation coming at release and the p2w-lite aspects of VIP + selling of "limited" number of founder packs again they chose to completely discard current/veteran players and attract a more modern whaley customer base. A group of fresh faces with open wallets that don't know the game is just Unity assets and think it's the same exact kind of game as ESO or WoW. Call that crazy but some comments in the other thread prove that some people don't know the difference so why not try to cash in on their lack of knowing? right? If they're tired of working on their game and hate their players cause their aren't more of them then going full greed mode is an acceptable path to take in 2021?

I'm not sure why following that was so difficult for you. Maybe you should go back and read the WHOLE quote. "So I have done some commenting in the other threads on this. One thing that was not mentioned in those: The game is still in Beta."
Would usually be enough to give people all the context they would need to understand. There is no flip-flop at all.
Here I will summarize in a way you can follow: 1. They said they would have a VIP sub all the way back to their Kickstarter 6 years ago. 2. They listed ideas for what that sub would include and a price. 3. That was 6 years ago 4. The VIP sub they just announced is largely in line with what they said in the Kickstarter
So anyone that is shocked by that really should not be. A company should always do what they say they will do. But then there is #5...
5. It turns out that the game is not coming out of Beta at the same time. So they are charging a sub for a Beta.
That is a different topic. One of timing, not cost or content or monetization type. I have always stated that I have a problem with any game that charges a sub for a beta. This goes back to Pathfinder Online (maybe longer).
As for it being a Beta. The source is the actual announcement of the VIP which perhaps you should re-read. Here is the quote:
"Once you've redeemed the VIP time, it will start ticking down daily. (So if you want to save your VIP time until the game is out of beta, just don't redeem the VIP time until then!)"
So I hope that clears it up for you.

It's not going to be a full wipe. The current indication is that you'll probably lose all your money and rep, but skill progress will be maintained. Yet another odd choice for an all-around quirky game.

This is the reason I stopped playing it as they would never say when wipe would be and losing rep and money plus inventory would be a pain
Crafting is a mechanic I can completely do without as I totally don't get the appeal but apparently some folks enjoy which is fine as long as I'm not feeling pressured to do it myself as was the case in many early games like L2 or DAOC.

its like you said you bought from someone who crafted, though in L2 mostly was the guild working with a artisan to lvl him up since they was good for sieges and crafting was all recipes not really skill lvl, but it was the char lvl, but anything grade A and S you would need 2 recipes, one for the artisan to learn and another to spend on the crafting.
but in general a good game who amke crafting a good thing is rare, and when they make one they tend to F*** it up by pushing cash shop or another "feature" to amke it useless if not max lvl.
check archeage duing alpha, crafting was a good thing and you would use to get better gear, and since it paid off to get low lvl gear, since you need the previous lvl gear to make the next one, not only your effort paid off but if you wanted real high grade you would need to get several crits in several tiers, that would make the gear valuable, but then enter cash shop and stupid nerf on crafting mats drops plus hasla, simple put, when you hit lvl 20 during alpha you could craft gear without problem, after launch you couldn't for lack of mats, and tehy "fix" it by selling the crating mats in cash shop
that is the issue most here don't "get it" they spin around to protect the game when the said game don't serve it.
its like the stockholm sindrome, with I belive most players have
It's an optional subscription for a game with less players than this thread has views.
The only reason this would even be news and have multiple threads about it is if the MMORPG genre were so stale and starved for anything to happen that people are getting upset about something so insignificant.
Project Gorgon added an optional subscription. Big Whoop.
I'm sure the 200 people actually playing this are happy they will be able to give the devs money beyond the box sale which had to be slow as of late. Speaking of devs it's a husband wife team of two people.

Yeah I was going to comment something similar to this. It's an optional sub that doesn't add all that much, just quality of life things / character slots, to help pay for the development of a game made by a very tiny team, played by a very small community.
So is this before or after the additional races, hairstyles, ect are updated for the first time since the Obama administration?
I liked what they were getting at with the game and could even see them justifying a box cost and subscription for some type of completed product. This, though, is kinda squeezing blood from a stone and I've never seen a game recover from the death spiral that usually follows a move like this. Just ask the folks over at Citadel how that extra sub cash is working out for them...
From reading this thread I have gleaned that most people are downright stingy about supporting the things they play. Irregardless of the fact that they might be spending upwards of 2 hours daily on a game they have no wish to pay or support the developers of the game.
If the game developer made the ill advised decision to stick with a B2P or made a shortsighted promise that they may not be seeking other more regular monetary payments it is without doubt that the players playing the game are not seeing how these things can change with time. If they wish the game to be there for them to play it is prudent wouldn't you say to support the two developers making it.
Keeping a game up is not only a passion project and if they ask for more money you can just walk away. What is the point of carrying on about here like it was a big offense. Just don't pay and stop playing. It's a choice so make one.
This was a mean thread created to scold them for trying to make money after working on a game for so long. The OP has clearly put a lot of time into the game from his description of the game and yet does not consider it worthy enough to invest more money in it. Honestly this parsimonious attitude towards the things you enjoy is a miserable and regrettable one.
Then there are the players who only consider a game worth playing when it is free. Really it is sickening when you listen to them in a game like Everquest 2 complaining about not having access to certain things because they are F2P. Well you can go stuff yourself into another game because a lot of us actually pay and support the game so that freeloaders like you can play.
I'm not sure why following that was so difficult for you. Maybe you should go back and read the WHOLE quote. "So I have done some commenting in the other threads on this. One thing that was not mentioned in those: The game is still in Beta."

Honestly think that whatever questions you raise about suspicious behavior when it comes to crowdfund games you do to pad your point count and bank account cause whenever any real discussion starts to happen you suddenly reverse course and/or actively try to change the entire discussion attacking those asking questions so no one will figure out that you're just faking all of it. The thing about the Legends of Aria sub though is it gives you cosmetics(mounts etc) + rent fully paid + extra housing plot = extra storage and some other things. LoA is also released and FTP but PG is still BTP in early access. LoA sub is the same price but also IMO too expensive for what it provides.

Remember, not everyone is against cash shops, especially younger people (it seems)
Older people (35+) are driving cash shop sales, not younger people.
I think it's both. Younger seem to not want to pay anything, especially a sub. Older tend to have more disposable income and less time and spend more in stores.
That's my take at least. There are certainly exceptions to each.

Older people (35+) are driving cash shop sales, not younger people.
That's my take at least. There are certainly exceptions to each.
