I doubt it will be a hit. It will be doing better than Crowfall, but it wont be another game that we will be seeing being relevant for time to come. The game is just too short and shallow. Sure the game is fun at the moment. Fallout 76 was fun first hours/days too. But in long run the game will be boring.
I played for a couple hours, my game crashed, so i quit for the day. Most people in chat were saying the game was better than they thought it would be. I enjoyed my time and finally found the hemp to make a fishing pole. Gathering resources is rather time consuming. I used my territory points to increase gathering speed which helped a bit, but some larger trees, iron ore, and rarer plants etc etc took like over 20 seconds to harvest. I don't think i will play much since there will be a wipe. I hate investing all that time only to lose it. I will try some pve stuff then wait for release
Played for 13h today (PvE) ...after 15 levels or so.
Also, there seems to be an overabundance of loading screens, especially while crafting.
Only 15 after 13 hours ? Weird, I'm 12 already, and I only played like 3 hours max...
And I absolutely don't understand what you mean with loading screens... once in the game, unless you go to a dungeon or recall to an inn, I haven't seen a single loading screen.
Yeah it gets substantially harder to level as you go up.

New World is actually not terrible. I'm having way more fun with it than I would have thought. Combat is really stiff, but aside from that, I don't have any other complaints.
Joined 2004 - I can't believe I've been a MMORPG.com member for 20 years! Get off my lawn!
But I think you guys are giving Wiz a hard time - he is right: Most of those people are impulsive players - it was the same thing with the beta. It was the same thing with many other games.
I hope the numbers get higher due influx of new players after reviews goes out if the game is good, but yeah, there are far too many "trend seeker gamerz" in those 200k which won't stick around in the long run.
There are many big streamers saying to wait to see Amazon response to MTX which makes me thing that number could be a bit bigger if they didn't had that mtx fiasco.
Wiz spends most of his posting time judging... no, assuming how other people think and behave. That's why many of us have him on ignore now.
Wiz has been on my ignore list for almost 2 years now because of the reasons Jean stated.
As for NW, I have only a short play time. I am thrilled how NW chucks you into crafting into the game. The interface is simple and easy to use. Combat is fine, whish the NPC attack tells were a little more pronounced. The char creator is a C- at best. Over all, I am happy and will most likely keep my copy of the game.
Seemed really fun, but I wound up refunding because it just didn't run well on my PC.
What's your system if you don't mind me asking? It is kinda one of my worries as well.
I5-6600K, R9 Fury and 16 GB. Getting old these days, unfortunately.
On medium settings the game ran at about 30-40 FPS when near town. Lots of stutter and lower drops when moving the camera a lot, like in combat.
Could have played more on low settings, but if I'm on low at release then my poor old rig wont hold up to future updates.
I'm not that far off.
I have a GTX1080, 16 GB ram but the thing bottlenecking me is the cpu i5 4670. I am browsing my options for potential upgrades in the winter but most probably I'll keep the GPU as they're way too overpriced for now.

This! Wiz never has a good thing to say about anything. He makes a post trashing one thing or another and then buggers off. He never responds to anyone who answers one of his posts, he just likes to "hear the sound of his own voice".

Well thought out game with lots of options for players in many different areas. World is alive and beautiful. Awesome fun with friends!
much more like real combat than typical mmo combat with programmed hotkey sequences.
Some criticisms:
4. Animal skinning is open loot, meaning anyone can skin the corpse you just killed and they sometimes do. I wish that there was a very short (1 to 2 minute) lock on skinning corpse kills.
Whoo whoo, finally a game which supports player "interaction."
Wonder if they left in any other opportunities like this after the switch from being more of a PVP oriented game?
Wouldn't be surprised to see them close that open door at some point down the road.

I played for couple of hours yesterday and did not have much fun. I kind of had a hard time getting immersed in the world. It sucks as I was hoping I would play this at least for some time.
I will not write it off just yet and will give it another shot later tonight.
I don't know about you, but if games don't grab me right off the bat they usually never will.

just up grade to ryzen 5 or better and 16 gigs of ddr 3200. Also check if your monitor refresh rate is higher then 60.
I doubt its your CPU. I have a much older i7 and my RAM is half your speed I get about the same performance. I couldn't put my finger on it yesterday but my fps seemed study at around 40, but the game didn't feel totally smooth at times. Im thinking it was server lag, but my ping seemed fine so I'm still not sure. I also saw the game may be bricking evga 3090s. Article i read seemed to think it was with uncapped FPS in menus

13 now, just one more hour... no way it takes 13 hours to get to 15 !
Really? That's the one thing you choose to focus on, my playing style? Not the fact that, while it looks pretty, this game is just like every other game in its class and does absolutely nothing different or unique...for PvE anyway. I like to slow burn games, immerse myself in the world, run around exploring, not bothering to gather every single little thing in sight. I'm in absolutely no hurry to get to end game.
So, yes, 13 hours to get to 15. Get over yourself.

I was fairly immersed, even with the 500 other people around me, until I headed on my way to town and saw the 500 campfires lining the road, the entire outside of the town and most of the surrounding area.
I think it would be better if you only saw Campfire you or that of your teams.
Its definately fun, I will probably play this over crowfall because the crafting system is much more user friendly. 3 skills on hotbar per weapon is my only con.

They have changed campfires this year to let anyone bind to any of them for rest/craft/re-spawn purposes so they need to be visible to anyone. Last year you could only use a campfire you built.
All those campfires just outside town in the noobie zones are due to one of the tutorial quests where you need to build a campfire and there are so many making it look silly because of that.
In higher level zones you won't see that because there are no "build a campfire" quests and players use them as intended - a re-spawn spot near where you're questing/grinding.

I will give it to Amazon. They performed a masterstroke with the marketing PVP/PVE debacle. They have successfully marketed their PVP game to PVE'ers. I haven't seen this done since DAOC.
This game will absolutely crush the "PVP" populations of PVP games out there now, like Albion, Eve, Crowfall, and Mortal Online 2 if it holds onto these PVE'ers. All these Whiney PVP'ers talking how this game was a PVE game now, because it doesn't have full loot or is flagged PVP. Watch how most of those people are going to be playing New World. One thing more important than all those hard core PVP mechanics is "Easy Targets" which New World has tons of.
If New World releases a bunch of PVE content maybe they will be able to hold onto some of them. With no new big PVE MMORPGs coming out I cant tell how long PVE'ers will stay.
Watch next year how PVP players will downplay Crowfall and Mortal Online 2 horrible releases, as they praise New World as the top PVP game of 2021. This will be the go to game to show PVP is still viable in MMO's.
You know I have posted a few "lets try to keep calm guys" over the past couple of weeks and I have just realised why. We have not had a new Western MMO out in years, CF and NW have stirred us up as it where.
I suppose then if I was to frequent Korean forums posters would be exploding all the time as they still have multiple releases each year?
Well thought out game with lots of options for players in many different areas. World is alive and beautiful. Awesome fun with friends!
Agreed. The world is lush and like you mentioned, feels organic and natural. The ability to jump over objects and climb some surfaces feels smooth.
The crafting has me excited. It's detailed but not overly complex. Materials pull from local storage which is a blessing. Both storage and auction trader are local to the town.
I really like how open weapon and skill choices are and not having that defined by a class. The same weapon on two different players can play very differently depending on skill choices. A sword and shield defender will feel and play different than a sword and shield damage dealer.
The action combat is challenging and I like how there isn't a hard tab-target lock. Swings can and do miss, sometimes wildly. Arrows and bullets have weight. There isn't an unlimited magic arrow/bullet supply. Real combat is messy and this feels much more like real combat than typical mmo combat with programmed hotkey sequences.
Some criticisms:
1. Party member icons should always show on the compass. They don't, or I couldn't find a way to make this always happen. It's a problem in town when there are many players nearby, less so out in the wilds.
2. Faction progression perks are a random "pick one of three". It feels haphazard and not very deterministic. Why? Why not just have some sort of skill tree like weapons?
3. Combat animations could be more fluid. That might come at a performance cost though and New World has a strong PvP element.
4. Animal skinning is open loot, meaning anyone can skin the corpse you just killed and they sometimes do. I wish that there was a very short (1 to 2 minute) lock on skinning corpse kills.
Overall, New World is an excellent game and clicks a lot of the things I've wanted to experience in an MMO.
I'll agree, it's not perfect but it's defo good. I love the night tme and the lushness of forest..

It will of course have a strong start. We'll see how much of that endures. Hopefully enough so that the game does as well and thrives over time.
