9 days to go!

Here are a couple of videos from Baggins TV about healing and life staff + hatchet leveling and one with a clever musket + rapier skill combo.

All about healing:

Life Staff + Hatchet leveling build:

Rapier Riposte + Musket Trap PvP:

Visual graphics setting comparison. Looks like the difference between high and very high is mostly imaginary :)

This reddit post has an interesting list of tips. Some are a bit sketchy but there is also some good info in there. The discussion comments bring up some good points as well.

Great link. I started watching the video version of this but didn't get far.

A couple of things about recalling to your house I didn't see in there:

    1. The recall to house is just like the recall to the Inn - it can be done from anywhere in the wild unlike the fast travel using Azoth that needs to be started at a shrine or town.
    2. The cheapest house (2K with first house discount) has a 4-hour recall cooldown but that CD can be reset at an Azoth cost. It typically costs less Azoth to reset that CD than to travel to the town your house is in. In beta I didn't see a limit on how often you could reset that cooldown. This makes it an always-there fast travel option for around  60-70 Azoth.

    Good info about the ports.

Do you plan on getting a house asap or waiting and getting a better house with a discount?

I'm probably going to wait because I want to see where it makes most sense to have a higher tier house. I'll probably then get cheaper houses in other towns, if that is economically viable.

For factions I'm probably going to Syndicate. The Covenant seems to attract people who enjoy RP'ing the zealot a little too much for my taste. Marauder's similar with pirate type edgelords but much more tolerable. So that leaves me with the paranoid occultists lol. I liked that thread by the Harbingers. I'm inclined to check them out.
I'll probably get that cheap house - that unlimited porting ability is just too good to pass up IMO. But I'll get it in the town where I plan to do most of my crafting.

Yeah I liked the Harbinger's post. Definitely leaning toward joining them too.

Even knowing that you get 50% off your first house?

Makes me want to save to the point where I can afford the T4 house, because saving 10k there is likely better than saving 2,500. Then again, I suppose it all depends on how much I'm earning, and odds are I'll get antsy and buy sooner. While it might be more convenient for fast travel, my early inclination is that I'll deal with it if I can.

Yeah I know. Financially it makes more sense to wait but once you hit 20-25 there is A LOT of running around to many different places. It's worth it to me to have the port instead.

I decided I am NOT going to take a day off from work for launch day! You guys convinced me and I know better! I'm getting off the hype train.  In fact, I'm not going to play at all until Oct. 2nd.... to let the launch and server issues work themselves out.

More than likely going to be NAeast server syndicate faction...just need to find/see if there is a way my son and I can start in the same area.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

There are 2, maybe 3, ways to do it:

    1. Right after the tutorial, turn in that first quest at the watchtower but DON'T ACCEPT THE FOLLOW-UP QUEST. You're then free to travel to any of the other 3 watchtowers and continue the beach quest chain there. (Tested - it works.)
    2. Go ahead and do all the beach quests at whichever beach it starts you at. When you get the final quest there you'll be sent to the nearby town to talk to the Mayor. Go ahead and do that but DON'T ACCEPT THE FOLLOW-UP QUEST. You're now free to go to any of the other 3 starter zone towns and start questing there. (Tested - it works.)
    3. The third one I haven't tested myself but I have read on reddit that it works. One of you completes (or skips - but talk to the Captain before skipping to get your shield) the tutorial while the other player stays in the tutorial waiting. When you're at the starter beach, send a group invite to the other player still in the tutorial. They won't be able to accept (or even see) the group invite but that's apparently good enough to get them to spawn at your beach. Let them know they're good to do or skip the tutorial. Even if it doesn't work there's no harm in trying. You'll just need to do 1 or 2 above instead.

Option 2 works really well, and easier than 1...at least for me. The little bit of extra health and level's made it very easy to make the run, and that was really a 30-40 minute investment of time?

Yeah that's also an option but it could suck if/when there are queues.

If the open beta is any indication, the queue times will be atrocious. So, I say good thinking.

I hope they have more options in character creation as it was severely lacking. Also, I hope they add some settings to resize and/or move certain parts of the UI. There is an option to make chat "smaller" by reducing how long text remains on screen. It is a workaround, but the original chatbox is way too big.

I assume even if you don't start in the same area, it does not take real time days to meet up? Do you pay a rental for the house or is it a cash shop one off fee?

I'm surprised, the longest queue I got during open beta was 30 minutes, the first time I connected. Later there were no queues at all.
I did almost an hour. It was just as it launched to open beta, but I expect the same level of time (or worse) before you're able to get in.

You can run to the other starter areas in 5-10 minutes in most cases. I still suggest you do the starter beach, get to level 8 or so, and then meet in the same town to really get rolling. (Using the method that Iselin mentioned above, by just turning in the quest that takes you to the town, and not taking the next one.) A few extra HP never seems to hurt when running to the other towns, especially since I tend to make bad decisions, and take straight lines, rather than staying on the road....

You'll pay for the house up front, but you will pay "Taxes"  on it. The default rate I believe was 10%, but that's subject to change based on the the company who "owns" the town.

Same boat here, had a short queue when logging in the first time, but the rest of the weekend, never had more than a minute wait, and I had 2 characters on US East, and 2 on US West that I screwed around with. (Most of my time was on the US East...)

25% chance of getting the right spot, and you won't know until you do the little tutorial area. Honestly, be a lesser time investment to get to where you want to be with your first character. Lol, plus taking the time to re-create the look that you liked!

Intriguing, you will see real world rental economics in action, is their benefits one town can offer over another or is it guild based so you are stuck with living in the guild town?
