I assume even if you don't start in the same area, it does not take real time days to meet up? Do you pay a rental for the house or is it a cash shop one off fee?
You can run to the other starter areas in 5-10 minutes in most cases. I still suggest you do the starter beach, get to level 8 or so, and then meet in the same town to really get rolling. (Using the method that Iselin mentioned above, by just turning in the quest that takes you to the town, and not taking the next one.) A few extra HP never seems to hurt when running to the other towns, especially since I tend to make bad decisions, and take straight lines, rather than staying on the road....
You'll pay for the house up front, but you will pay "Taxes" on it. The default rate I believe was 10%, but that's subject to change based on the the company who "owns" the town.
Intriguing, you will see real world rental economics in action, is their benefits one town can offer over another or is it guild based so you are stuck with living in the guild town?
The right answers are out there....and that's one I read about, but there has been an awful lot out there...maybe someone can add some definition, or correct me where I'm wrong.
In a town that is owned by your company/faction there are some benefits that you receive. Although in theory, another company/faction could lower taxes, but you'll lose the other benefits. I thought I saw some "cost" savings in ones that your faction/company owned, and definitely fast travel is cheaper going someplace that is owned by your faction.
I can't remember which video I watched that talked about it, or which article I read...lol, but think I have the general idea..
Pre-load on Steam is up. You may need to restart Steam to start the DL.
