So stunning. So brave. Much wow.

They also removed all of these. Can't have jokes and women are now bowls of fruit.

Still have yet to fix warcraft 3: refunded.

    Oh and the lawsuits.

But yes keep them promises. Really making a difference.

If dude was PROVED to be sexually assaulting women take his name off. If a guy whos name is on a school was slaver, take it down.

Idk if you call that woke. I'll call it stopping stupid.

The thing is they are never satisfied, the cause must always live on. When women were paid less than men for doing the same job that was the gender pay gap. Laws were rightly brought in to sort that out and it has all but stopped. But a cause must never die, it must go on, so now instead of looking at jobs they look at companies. If the average wage of a women is less than a man in that company that's the new gender pay gap.

The companies themselves can't stop more women applying for cleaning jobs and so on but this framed as the companies and societies fault, described in terms that is is something that these companies and indeed our societies actively support. Which is of course daft, no one is supporting this or encouraging it. If the statistics no longer supports you, move the goal posts, the cause must live on.

How dumb does anyone have to be to think that this is about woke culture?
Corporations have FOREVER been trying to portray themselves as nice an caring guys with their PR about donations to, or token gestures about whatever they think will make them more profit.

It's not a conspiracy man. Corporations are doing what they have always done since long before social media came up with the term "woke culture."

They are totally amoral institutions that don't give a shit about causes. They leave that to the rubes and just follow what's trending at their expense.

I'm surprised that otherwise intelligent seeming individuals put this down to "woke culture" as if the money men gave half a shit about the causes and issues the common folk care about.

More non-whites in leading roles in movies or games? More females in strong leading roles? They are doing that simply because their market research tells them that sells well now, not out of any sense of decency or moral justice or worse, the liberal conspiracy some of you think it is. As soon as the wind blows in a different direction they'll do that new thing instead.

It's just idiotic to see it as anything other than the profit motivated trendiness it is. There are no black lesbian women trying to cut your balls of. Honestly there aren't.

I have yet to see someone talking about "conspiracy" when it comes down to this woke culture and cancel culture. There is a protest for something everyday. And people would either get ruined or just comply. Where is the conspiracy? It is all very load and clear.

Money men are also complying, true. But what about the decisions that were made and have actually hurt companies? I can write a very long list for that. Those weren't to make more money.

Let's think about the time when Christian Church had lots of power and canceled a lot of stuff too, and companies also complied otherwise they would've been ruined on the very some holier-than-though level. You might believe that was fine, too. To call this fear-mongering a conspiracy theory is just ridiculous, even the radicals don't call it that. They call it justice: Social Justice.

You are straw-manning statements that no has said to make your point.

I agree on that part, but I think you're missing the big picture. They are removing MASSIVE amounts of pop culture and fun references in their games now. Just because of that shit.
But they are doing it because they think that gains them more than it loses them. No idea whether it does or doesn't but that's what they think. Their hand is not being forced by anyone. They are calculating what to do and what to say very carefully as advised by expensive PR firms and acting accordingly.

It's not because some vocal twitter mob is forcing their hand. Everything on twitter gets amplified. It's like a frigging collective and live version of the National Enquirer but of even lower quality, and if you spend too much time there it'll rot your brain.

    :)

I said they call it social justice, by no means I think the woke culture is any form of justice.

But it's because more and more people give in to that kind of ideology, for any reason, that the ideology progresses.

And I'd expect a company running a game in a virtual high fantasy setting to tell them to fuck off and get lost, but no, instead of that they kiss their asses. Not for me, sorry.
Yeah well things change. New generations come along and have their own ideas. Old farts just overstay their welcome.

It's been a long, long time since any movie studio or game developer thought of me as their target demographic. They're selling to Gen Z now, not you or me.

It's virtue signaling for the sake of getting money.  And again, it's so transparently obvious that even "woke" proponents see it for what it is.

No one threatened to cancel Blizzatd over McCree's name.  Blizzard is virtue signaling for monetary reasons, specifically by trying to distract people from canceling them over something ELSE significantly more serious (whether that something else is a justified reason for cancelation is a separate matter)

To be fair though, having one of your good guys named after a scummy person is not something I as a hypothetical author would want to have in my creation either.  Such a name would fit a despised scummy villain more.  That and Cole Cassidy was a porn star.

Because it is all about the money.

It is a woke thing. Because right now not being woke hurts companies and people. And companies are appealing to this idiocy.

I know this isn't the place for it. BUT WOKE PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO CANCEL DAVE CHAPPELLE. I MEAN FUCK OFF. Just look into history and see what sort of people canceled comedians. Fucking tyrants!

I am sure future generations will laugh at us for renaming a game character as well.  And when they do they won't be saying ah there was money involved, no problem! No. They will judge us for this mess that we have become. It won't last forever though. I believe in humanity.

Well... Is it really woke if it is not about wokeness... I´d say it is closer to virtue signaling...

But either way it is about money and nothing else.

As for Dave Chapelle... If one is going to be a ass-hat (a very valid standpoint for a comedian) one has to be a consistent ass-hat. Only a fucking idiot would try to make a point out of exclusion by excluding a large part of his own viewer base...

Also not to be picky but... Canceling comedians has been a staple since.. well.. comedy was invented.

How Dave Chappelle has been inconsistent, and how has he excluded a large part of his own viewer base? He has hit the all-timing approval rating based on audience votes. What's your source on this?

So, that would make it OK? We should keep canceling them because it is a tradition?

If you are doing comedy and nobody wants to cancel you... You are doing it wrong.
Well said. But you can also a judge a society or a group of people based on what they'd want to cancel.
I swear, future historians are going to look back on this era, and be like "Well it was really for the best that most of them got wiped out by _______

Did they name him after Butch Cassidy the rapist, or did they name him after Cole Cassidy the porn actress?

I'm genuinely starting to wonder if the "people" developing Blizzard games are even Human.

If someone brings this up to Blizzard they will say it is another coincidence, like the Cosby carpet.

Well, I think there's a clear difference between some legit concerns (the climate, pollution, etc...) and dangerous liberty killing ideologies. I'm a child of the 80s (born in 1968, so I lived my best years during the 80s) and freedom was way better back then. Nobody was offended by some joke about a minority, actually, a black friend of mine knew the best jokes about blacks. It's over now, you can't laugh about anything even remotely offensive to some minority or another. I find that VERY scary.
Wow. Let me get this straight,  Not being able to tell racist jokes is scary to you?

    Maybe you wrote that wrong.

The thing is, people have ceased to allow themselves to laugh at themselves.

Case in point, If someone tells a Christian Joke, that mocks Christians,  people laugh at it, even Christians, because they have the self security to laugh off these jokes.

The problem arises, not that people cannot tell a racist joke, but when we as people longer possess the self security to laugh off any humor directed at any character of our person, be it race, religion, gender, sex, disability, etc.

I believe something was lost, and it was our ability to take a joke as a joke.

Personally, I blame internet trolls for that one, mainly, because they would fire off barrages of racist/sexist/hurtful insults and personal attacks, and then when called out, they would try to hide behind the like "What, can't take a joke" and slowly, it became a resounding and abrupt "No" in a solid move to silence them, and I feel that is where the whole snowball started, and it's been rather effective.

Egotism is the anesthetic that dullens the pain of stupidity, this is why when I try to beat my head against the stupidity of other people, I only hurt myself.

People can hide behind the idea that we should all be robust enough to take a joke. I think we should, but I am sure there are those who would use this to put over racist stereotypes for example, so it is a tricky area. Yet I want our societies to have people who are stoic, who can take anything thrown at them and crack on, not wearing their heart on social media and complaining about everything.

I think we are losing our ability to face adversity, in the name of "kindness" or whatever the next buzz word will be. Those behind such ideas think they are building a better society, I don't think people's behaviour during the pandemic showed that we have become a better society. The institutions did well, but the people did not, which shows to me how from a sociological perspective you can rely far more on institutions rather than some nebulous idea of nudging peoples minds.

People are getting offended by proxy. That's not about being stoic but fucking bananas.
