Let's Talk Arcane!

Netflix has a new(ish) show based on League of Legends (LoL) called Arcane. I am intrigued with the show!

I've never played LoL, or DOTA either. This story about 2 sisters from the LoL lore is awesome! I didn't even know LoL HAD lore.

Should I pick up League of Legends? Is there a "story mode", or something similar?

I'll leave with a video from Imagine Dragons called "Enemy", from the shows opening :)
(Hopefully this is not blocked in some countries...)

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

I have only watched one episode but I really liked it, I too raised a smile about the idea LoL has lore, but maybe it does? My guess is this series will have created more lore than the rest of what has come out so far. This is one of the very rare cartoons on Netflix I think is worth watching, most are a bit naff or maybe I am just too old for them now? :)

No. LOL gameplay is just LOL.

You're just going to have to wait for the LOL MMORPG that has already been in the works for several years like the rest of us :)

And yes. Arcane is the very best movie or series based on a game IP... ever.

Thanks for those! I've been searching for Arcane content while I wait for season 2

I even found a video where a therapist looks closely at Powder/Jinx :)

I've even searched for "reaction videos" with the opening song. It's fun to see so many smiling faces :)

Thanks for that insight. An LoL MMORPG? Interesting...

I think I agree with you about Game IPs that suck, thus far. I certainly haven't seen them all, but this seems to be a great adaptation about some characters said game IP :)

I have to ask, though, "Better than Dungeon Siege's movie with Jason Statham?" LOL

Don't feel bad. Not "everyone" has to like something :)

Episode 3 it really kicks off as the girls are more grown then. It's end of their childhood, bad as it was, and episode 4 is where the story gets interesting.

If you make that far, see if get into it. It's not for everyone, so don't feel like you "have to like it." :)

Most league of legends stuff is pvp focused.  There's a new rpg that just came out.  Single player.  Seems pretty cool.  The card game is good,  I play it and they have a pve challenge mode.  Just in case you want to get into the world and learn about some of the characters.

Kinda makes me wonder how some of the monsters and animals would fit in to a narrative,  but oh well.

First two episodes were just buildup. The hammer drops in the third, and the train doesn't stop after that.

LoL has had rich lore before the series:
    https://universe.leagueoflegends.com/en_GB/
That's actually very impressive, we have mainstream MMORPGs out for years with less lore. This has spiked my interest in the possibility of a LoL MMO, which I will admit I had dismissed because I just did not see LoL as a good IP for a MMO.

League of Legends got a very rich lore. They even have alternate realities with their own lore for different skin sets.

Characters got an interesting background story. Although at their early years they used to adopt ideas from other popular IPs but their own original stuff are much better.

They are expanding way beyond their current MOBA. RPGs and card games, and there will be an MMORPG but we that might take a lot of years to release.

PvP MOBA games are a breeding ground for toxicity. But you can also find a lot of funny people. You just have to find golden hours when small children are in bed then you can actually enjoy the community. It is sort of like Twitter, so you'll need to instantly mute the annoying ones. In my opinion, the community has improved over the years but that is just my personal experience.

If you ever wanted to try League of Legends then stick to Normal games and other fun modes. If you avoid ranked games then you'd rarely run into bad behaviour.

Anecdotal, but I found normals to be better than ranked (obviously, the stakes are lower), but not by a huge margin. I play ranked a lot. I actually found the biggest difference to be between ranks. Silver are a nightmare of toxicity, bronze are a crazy train, if you manage to get to gold people are way more mature and pragmatic.

Other modes outside of the rift are indeed very laid back.
You are correct, I'm on the same train. But it takes a lot of will and decent amount of training to grind out of silver. I thought most people would want to give it a try because of Arcane and I doubt it if anyone wants to invest that much.

By the series and other games Riot is expanding its IP. Logical move from going for an MMO.

Yeah. I've seen "predictions" going over 2+ years. I believe "someone" said this first season took almost 6 years, from Riot's original announcement to air. Fact checks welcome :)

Great TV show.  Everyone I know who's watched it has been very impressed.

It actually made me look at the game again, but wisdom prevailed.

I must confess that the art is just amazing. It is so refreshing to see an anime that is not borrowing the Japanese anime style.

Currently, out of curiosity and because it is popular, I am trying to watch jujutsu kaisen. I am only at the second episode and it makes me snore big time. It has so much a feeling of déjà vu...

In contrast Arcane feels vibrant and alive even if right now (1st episode only) I don't see anything really standing out in the story.

Yes, Arcane starts with a slow burn. They take the time to let us get to know some of the characters.

Arcane is set up with 3 "chapters" with 3 episodes each. I found it very well paced :)

I'm cautiously optimistic for the second season. But, it will be hard for it to live up to the expectations that are now placed on it. I don't know if the story was written to have multiple seasons or if they are just scrambling to get another one out because of the success of the first. We all may end up wishing they just hadn't.

It also hasn't given me any hype for the upcoming MMO. Different teams and different mediums. I don't think the quality of the show is any indication of the quality we can expect from the MMO.

Same here. I am "cautiously optimistic" for season two as many things can "change" between now and then :)

The MMO just doesn't "hype me" much as well. I do have some interest, but not much excitement.

Arcane surprised the snot out of me because instead of yet another "the message" type show, movie, or comic it is based on good writing. Characters have so much more depth than just their skin color, sexuality, or gender. What a breath of fresh air :)
