That's just me waiting for reacts to my posts, sorry.
Funny, humor is great... keep it up.
Alas, I had no warnings or such. However, I'm going on a permanent hiatus from this forum...
Great personalities here... see you elsewhere... if not, happy life to you all
PS - I don't know how to transfer my "stuff"
PPS - my avatar is REH (Robert E Howard)... he wrote a ton of content before he died in his early 30s (suicide per police reports)
He created Conan and so many other great works. He died (1936) 1 year before Tolkien published his first book... The Hobbit (independent, just in context - not claiming Tolkien drew on him.. im also a Tolkien fan).
I can't stand Wikipedia for some things, but here's the link (it's decent):
There was a time when this site used to be moderated too. Remember when posts like these would be moved to general discussion? Remember when non-mmo games were moved to general discussion? Then Bill came along and argued there was a reason to call League of Legends an MMO. Suddently we had Diablo 3 on the games list and it was classified as an MMO.
MassivelyOP is ran by an old lady who doesn't even game. She calls anything and everything an MMO. Its pathetic.
This site isn't quite there yet, but it sure does need some tender love and care. Its crazy to think in that just over a year I will have been on this site for 20 years.
I remember when people argued for F2P early on, and they didnt realize the damage it would cause despite being warned. Now look at what we have. Then you had the fools who lied and stated that definitions of Massively and Multiplayer had changed and thus simple 16 player games were now MMO's.
I don't feel there is any going back. It took years but I am finally comfortable with this MMO forum here being a free for all too. It is what it is. VR is the next landscape for MMO's. Hopefully it doesn't get corrupted to fast. Hopefully this site will improve as well, but I won't hold my breath.

I stumbled on this thread yesterday after months of not visiting the site and even longer not logging in. I was never an active poster, but lurked here often. The forums were a great way to kill time on long bus commutes or when I needed something else to think about. But that changed at some point and now I barely visit. After reading through much of this thread yesterday, I've been considering the many causes suggested here to see which of them apply to me. Is it a dearth of interesting MMOs with new, innovative features? Is it a shift in my life and gaming habits? Is it this site's moderation?
My earliest introduction to MMOs (a random bday gift of some game called Asheron's Call) had me imagining virtual worlds I could explore full of other, real people to interact with. PvE or PvP, small impromptu parties or larger, persistent communities, I could only imagine the possibilities. Sadly, despite the promise this gift held, our home's lousy internet setup meant I did most of my MMOing through daydreams then.
Early on in college, I saw a few friends beta testing Blizzard's upcoming MMO. Then I had some family start playing WoW after launch and I decided to join in. Grouping up to explore this world with local friends and family overseas was a hype, even if it fell short of my imagined MMO experience. So I decided to look for other games and at some point ended up here. I discovered so many interesting games through this site, and started thinking of the underlying design principles from the many discussions here. Theme park, sandbox, instanced or open world, crafting, questing, story telling, in-game economies, RP, you name it. I played some SWG and Eve because of this site. Played some GW1 and wondered whether it was in any way an MMO because of this site.
I didn't have much time or the biggest budget, so I read here about the different ideas and innovative approaches developers were taking. Secret World sounded interesting. GW2 was going to change questing and allow players to affect the world. What I couldn't play for lack of time or money I read about here and got hyped on the future. So what happened?
Looking back, I think I'm in the camp of people for whom the MMO landscape stagnated / went in a wildly different direction. Games in general are developed and monetized in ways that I find detrimental (see unfinished projects released as Early Access). I'm not saying it doesn't work out every now and then, but this type of development rubs me the wrong way (does mentioning unfinished/delayed/underwhelming kickstarter projects get me banned?).
I admit that much of that is me. It's not so much a lack of games as a lack of games that interest me the way they used to. Rehashed or simplified systems, virtual corridors instead of worlds, and drawing on new systems I don't particularly care for (blockchain) doesn't do much to draw me in. Oh, and a dose of cynicism that has me seeing most of these games as products of business analytics than the passionate work of designers and artists. Again, so much of that is just me. Games were often simply a business product even back then, though I was too young to see it.
I do still enjoy gaming. I love talking about game design and implementing a few of those simple ideas as side projects with some friends (yay Unity). That is where I do most of my daydreaming and wondering about the future of games these days. There it all still feels possible and exciting. This site is a bittersweet dose of reality instead. That's why I rarely come here. But I do miss these forums.
They have new tricks now. If I try to reply to staff written articles, I get "comment waiting for moderator approval" ( there is never any approval ). But I can post here in the slums of user made threads freely. lol
Maybe just a hangover effect from your main @Zorvan account being banned lol.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. - FARGIN_WAR

First that video was hilarious, lol had never seen that before. Reminded me of Muppet's voicing which made it even funnier.
Not to go
completely off the rails but since you are discussing Cake, it reminded me just
the other night my wife put on maybe the dumbest Netflix show I had ever seen
about guessing whether an item was cake or not.
It was like
an infomercial to promote other Netflix shows wrapped in a crappy game show
style presentation. The judges / contestants whatever they were had been
introduced as so and so who you can see on *insert this Netflix special / show*. They keep raising the subscription cost to make their own high quality in-house
content and they came up with this.

Oh, I know, like the song says, "for porn!"
Had not seen this or seen it referenced since around the time it came out, nice throwback Kyleran!
It is one of WOWs classic fan made videos, more clever than Leroy Jenkins, but I read this one was an adaptation of a previous work which used WOW characters this time around.(never saw the original)

The original was part of an off-Broadway puppet play, if I recall.
In the interest of the theme of this thread I have reported you all for various infractions such as Topic Hijacking and Off Topic posting. I then reported myself for abusing the report function.

We should come up with some sort of refuge where all the old banned forum users could get together and keep in touch. Maybe a Discord channel. Something like Ricks Cafe in the film Casablanca. .... What? I'm old damn it!

Dots more dots was always my fav WoW video, that raid leader LOL.
This thread is all over the place. Glad I made it to the end.
“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

Kyleran on yours sincerely
'But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.'
Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...
'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'
