Well yes, I'd admit that is a fact; however, I'm somewhat critical of its usefulness since something that can be said about every game isn't terribly informative.

But again, that appears to be a fact.

BTW, stop playing board lawyer and join me way out on a limb and give me a freakin' prediction for the game that Babs can wave around like a dirty diaper when we're proven wrong.
I just think it’s dangerous (edit... I shouldn't say dangerous.. misleading would be a better word) when you say things like:

Fact:  Backers are happy playing the Alpha (not a direct quote but on phone and that’s last page).

You can literally also say that about every game. Every single one always has the diehards that love everything.  Even delays.  As I said… I play with a guy that swears Anthem was the best  game we ever played. Saying “Players liked Anthem” would be true… but misleading.

I have questions that a transparent company could answer:

    1) What specific progress has been made on SQ42 since Citizencon and what are the biggest obstacles holding it back from release

    2) What specific progress has been made on server meshing since Citizencon.

Well there's  a mountain of Chris quotes that have turned out to be wrong or unfulfilled.  So, counting his proclamations as facts leads to lots of counter examples.

I don't believe anything that CIG says that's not required by law, and even those are susceptible to garden variety business fudgery.

What I wrote was: "FACT: SC has a playable 'alpha' and people are enjoying it."

It isn't meant to be an inclusive (all backers) term but I think it is important to acknowledge that there are about 200,000 players enjoying themselves right now and that isn't a small accomplishment.  The fact doesn't take away from the fact that there are many backers who are upset right now.  We can add that to the fact list.

I see no evidence that there are 200,000 players enjoying themselves playing the alpha, although I know there is at least one person who says they are enjoying it.

You don't get it.  Star Citizen is like all those things.  Except less finished, more buggy, more expensive, and apparently less likely to have persistence any time soon.

Ohh look at you, projecting your hero dev Warren Spector's game System Shock 3 in here. So Cute. :D
    ....
Oh, you mean the Warren Spector who was brought in to handle the management and logistics of Wing Commander, when your hero dev Chris Roberts couldn't.  (They also had to bring in a coder to fix his nonfunctional ship combat.)  For a first time producer, that'd be somewhat acceptible, if only he'd learned from the experience....

You mean the Spector who produced Ultima 6 and 7, Ultima Underworld, Wing Command Privateer-RF, System Shock, Deus Ex, etc and has actually helmed games that released this century?

Pretty sure that if Spector had had a half a billion dollars in funding, he would have gotten Squadron 42 out by now.  ;)

Fact is I actually know two people who play Star Citizen with some regularity (Discord betrays them) who enjoy what it currently delivers.

Both however advised that "I" don't follow their lead as they are well aware of my personal preferences (peculiarities?)  such as playing only finished or at least released (no more wipes) games.

I'm really only interested in SQ42 for now as my personal piloting skills are definitely not going to improve as time relentlessly marches on.

This forum is kind of like r/gamingcirclejerk. Most people here are just meming for the lulz cuz they're bored. Don't let it bother you. When SC releases everyone will be trying it out no matter what they've said before. We don't get enough MMO releases anymore to pass that up.

I dont know Torval...We will be 20 years behind the backers by the time it releases....Even if it is a complete wipe at release, the backers will have so much more knowledge of the game there is no way noobs will be able to compete.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and make a prediction.

This is a prediction that SC lovers can bookmark and punish me with later should it be wrong.

I'm going to predict that SC is currently, or very nearly, near peak numbers. (+/- 20%).

    My reasoning is as follows:

1: The game is an open world PvP title.
2: The game is languishing in alpha for too long. (1)
3: Space games aren't the most popular genre. (2)
    4: Subscription based
    5: Pay-To-Win
6: Babs hasn't disputed my sub-numbers math which means they're likely either spot on or way high.  If they were low he'd pitch a fit. (3)

    NOTES
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1: Players can join, play the game to exhaustion, and quit before it even launches.
2: Open world PvP + space game is a double whammy in the ole niche department.
3: Using Bab's milestone numbers to combat the hype is a pro-trolling ninja move that only experienced board warriors should attempt.

The subscription thing isn't really a thing. It just gets you behind the scenes stuff and subscriber cosmetics/flair. Its mostly just to support the behind the scenes videos they make.

It is most definitely not pay to win. Some of the best dogfighting ships are like 70 bucks.

This isnt just a space game either.

I don’t  have a problem with an SC fan loving their chosen game.  I have a problem with some small subset of those who attack and dismiss legitimate complaints about the ridiculousness that is the development of this project.  No matter how much you might “believe “ you should respect the rights of OTHER backers who feel lied to, mislead, and generally discouraged by the treadmill this project has been on. Ok

All these years and still not a single second of Squadron 42 has been played.  Yup… I’m gonna complain about that.

You know this reminds me of my son's obsession with Nightmare Before Christmas when he was about 2 and he would watch it like 9-10 times a day. Over and over and I worried that he would do what Sally did as we lived on the 40th floor of some tall apartment block in Singapore. I had of course locked every window and kept away the key but my Japanese  neighbour who loved to take him over to her place had the windows open and he often was playing with her older kids. I was worried sick but I dare not say anything as I didn't want to hurt her feelings by questioning her watchfulness. She loved him so much and offer to babysit all the time. I loved her family they were wonderful neighbours.

I still can see Sally stitching her arm up.

Yes that's when I must of seen the film, about 2 years old. :)

I noticed that Wikipedia calls her a toxicologist, I just thought she was a opportunist poisoner (she only knocked out her dad) which fitted the Halloween theme so well. I guess with similar thinking to the way she escaped they decided girls who might see Sally as a role model should not think of her as a poisoner. :)

You assume any significant amount of people here would have the rig needed to run it at comfortable framerates.

I haven't seen much evidence that's the case.  Nobody can run it at comfortable framerates yet, and we're not even talking about multiplayer battles happening on screen...  Just standing around in a station lol.

But hey, at least you'll get to see that toilet really flush at 34 FPS.

edit: on a more serious note, I still think you're mistaken.  There's very little interest in SC here.  Just check out the thread Hatefull posted about the 3.17 experience.  What, four users even cared enough to post?

No, SC will have to pull a NMS style splash to generate huge amounts of interest at this point.  It's a decade old game in most gamers' minds at this point.  One of the dangers of crowdfunding- no hype left by release.
