I'm getting desperate, tell me the real cost of ESO.

I'm on steam sale and cant find anything that tickles my fancy. ESO is only $5.99 for the base game, watched many reviews and everyone talks about an exciding game, but crazy easy that's is a MAJOR TURN OFF for me......I'm ready and desperate enough to take a chance.

Most important, I'm not willing to sink a pile of money into a game I may not like.  Another MAJOR TURN OFF is being P2P.

So their you have it:
-How is the easy
-And how bad is the Pay-to-Play after the Main game purchase.

I would say that "how easy" is subjective as well as depending on what you are doing. ALL mmorpg's are "easy" in the leveling process.

    Depending the game type.

You are a big proponent of World of Warcraft. Well it's no less easy than World of Warcraft.

Various group activities, just like any other mmorpg, can be more difficult.

The game is quest based. There is exploration and I would say that's how the game is designed, "explore!"

But in the end you will be following quest threads here and there. None of the quests are hard.

But again, all mmorpg's have easy leveling give or take a mistake here and there.

It's not pay to play. I would say that having a sub makes things easier, especially with inventory.

You can pretty much pick how hard you want the game to be. If you simply solo overland mobs a few at  time, it can be really easy.

Then you could take on a delve, or a public dungeon. Those can be hard to do solo. Easier to do with other people around.

Or try out Dolmens. These can be really hard to do solo. There are usually groups doing those, but you can try them solo.

Of course, the private dungeons range from pretty easy to really hard. Soloing these is not easy, and the hard ones would be impossible. Expert dungeons can be hard even for a group that knows the mechanics of that dungeon.

There are also several ways to PvP.

As for the cost, I'd suggest the monthly sub to get the perks. Otherwise, you shouldn't have to spend any money at all. The DLC's and chapters can cost extra, but there are a lot of areas to play in without any of those.

It seems like $6 is good for giving the game a try :)

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

I long ago decide to play the best we have rather than the best MMO I could hope for, ESO is among the best. It has flaws, the ease of combat being one of them though the combat itself (animations and so on) never bothered me as much as it does some. Get yourself a guild, you will enjoy the game more but only if you do your research. You won't find it too hard to find one that harkens to the old days of MMOs like so many of us do.

Decent game..... soloing and combat are easy, doing delves and dungeoning is challenging.  I suggest buying expansions when they are on sale.  I really like Morrowwind and their is even an expansion that allows you to have a companion to fight with.

Base Game + Subscription = 95% of the game + High Isle DLC = 5% (latest chapter). Now do the math :)

Parts of the game do get very easy once you know how the game works and how to build your character (i.e. which skills are the best ones to use,) have good gear and enough champion points to boost your power.

But even when you get to the stage where you find trivial overland mobs very easy, you'll often run into things that are not and you can always challenge yourself with many things that are not nearly as easy as simple overland content in the base zones (Craglorn is a zone that is part of the base game - if you find things too easy just go there and try that overland content or its quests.)

A lot of players looking from the outside think that because there is level scaling, there is no progression nor power gaps. That would be totally wrong. If you try to do some of the things that a good player with good gear, all relevant skills unlocked and cherry picked to match the situation and a boatload of CP can do, you'll soon find out that there is indeed a lot of progression and big differences between new, low level players, and high level vets.

I think the base game with Morrowind included is quite enough to work out if you like ESO. There is enough content just there to mean you can put of decisions about expansions (yes expansions not some fiddly dlc!) of for months yet.

You don't have to spend a lot of money to enjoy most of the content and yet...

I probably spent the most money in 9 months on it than any other game besides EVE, where I had 6 annual subs vs one sub in ESO.

Let's just say they are very good at luring players in with optional convenience purchases, and I am mostly a creature of comfort these days.

I'm sure you'll be able to stay strong delete...

Interesting. I find it not too bad.
Had up to Elsweyr already from a collection I bought when it came out and bought High Isle on release and carry a sub.
Crafting bag and DLCs make the sub worth it.
Overall I just don't see it any more expensive than any other MMO. I dont consider playing without a sub though. With it is everything I need.

Just get the base game and play it for a few weeks, in that time you will have a better idea of whether the game is worth further investment, the game scales to whatever level you are, so you can wander around freely, no idea about the PVP though as i never bothered with it, unless you are interested in crafting, you don't need to ever get a sub from what i have seen so far.

The real cost varies, from buying the base game only to buying every expansion as it comes out and maintaining an ongoing subscription for access to DLCs.

When first starting out, it is best to purchase the base game only. It provides plenty of content such that one can easily determine if the game would be enjoyable.

If one wishes to go beyond the base game, there is a package designed for just starting out that includes every expansion up to the current one. Once that package is purchased, if one sticks with the game there is another package available going forward with each expansion that just includes the upcoming one.

DLCs are included at no extra costs to subscribers so long as they have an active subscription. Alternatively, access to them for the life of the game regardless of subscription status can be purchased directly.

However, only those actively subscribed can put found crafting materials into an additional unlimited storage, making that option better for those that wish to craft a great deal. Otherwise the materials clutter main inventory.

The cash shop is entirely optional. One can play the game totally fine without ever purchasing anything from it.

So far I only reached level 9, playing extremely casual with work around the house. Finding it very boring because of the EXTREAMILY EASY COMBAT.

It's like this, I was in an area with many nagging wolfs constantly relentless. I decided to simply let them beat on me while I decide my next move. I let five minuets go by and still took no damage....... Is everything is like this !!!

How can anyone enjoy this ?

Anyway, only level 9 so I'll give it some time......Also will soon start searching for events to take part in and dungeons.

Any recommendations for future content other than open world content ?

My advice, use minimal armour/weapons, forget special powers. When I played it was not as easy as it is today, but then what more is as hard as it was in yesteryear? This is part of the problem with the zone matching your level, it is Ok if they have reasonable difficulty otherwise not. You are missing out on the only good thing about that system, it lets anyone group with you but then you don't need anyone, which nerfs the biggest value of such a system.

If you want harder combat then try harder content. Do some of the multiplayer stuff, not sure what they call them now but essentially the "dungeons." Not the open delves, they're' called something else.

    Agreed.
There is plenty of challenging content in the game but ESO does a good job of creating for many kinds of people.
Some people just want to go easy and enjoy the ride.
    Some want to be pushed.
Some people want to be punished.
ESO provides all those things for all those people.
I was doing a quest last night in High Isle and was completely hammered by a group on the beach.
I had to call on the guild and we still had two people drop before completion.
    Great fun!

I've been told that, so that's what I'm counting on.

The world scales to you (or vice versa, whatever) so once you are out of any tutorial areas you can find overland bosses, these very hard dungeons. There's Elden Hollow in Grahtwood. For my character there seems to be a I and a II by it so that could be dependent on level. However, I recall that it's more for groups and you could get some challenge there.

I spent 2 days with my group going through steam, epic, xbox gamepass, and our own PC disc drives... we couldn't find anything to play.  Loaded up Black Desert and deleted it faster than it took to load....

Might actually go back to ESO again... for the 3rd or 4th time.

But yeah,  I'd dive into a Vanguard/Pantheon game in a heartbeat.
