This game has around 13k subscribers.
Four years ago it sold 45,000 boxed copies. Two years ago, it sold more on a re-released edition, number unknown. Then it's had FOUR years plus on the market to try and bolter it's subscibership, which is the third lowest of ALL MMO's.
The net result is that it still has only 13K subscribers after legions of customers trying it, then dropping it, and the upcoming re-release has STILL FAILED to garner 1000 preorders, even after endles fanboy hyping on every game realted messageboard they can find.
The publishers don't even bother to advertise it, and won't spend a nickle unless 1000 preorders is reached, becasue they have NO confidence that this game will sell.
About a year ago, CRS shut out the non-fanboy subscribers of this game altogether, banning them, and modding them right out of their own forums, so they flee to others only to be set upon by fanboy trolls looking to make a lame attempt to cover up or somehow justify CRS's lies, deciets, and shoddy marketing practices.

Most of the people I've seen trolling forums to convince people to not play the game either haven't played it at all or haven't played in years by their own admission. People wanted MMOBF1942 and for some reason when mental when it turned out to be a sim instead.
I don't feel ripped off. It's pretty much the game I want. If that makes me a fanboi (and it must make everyone who has ever liked something a fanboi) then so be it. I like the game, I like the new UI, I like it that a HC makes decisions, etc, etc, etc. The game is 100X better today than it was a year ago and I think it will continue to get better.
Any game is going to have people who don't like it. If you don't like what WW2OL has to offer go and play something else.

I know i'm gonna get flamed now, but don't say the only people who play the game are rabid fanboys. I've played the game for a little over 2 years now, and still play it, and is my favorite game. I've bought 2 other games in the past few years, BF2 (which isn't as good IMO) and Silent Hunter III, which is fun.

There is no question in my mind however, that CRS attempts to maintain and gain subscribership with bogus promises, and false and misleading statements.
There is also no question that the game runs like hell on mainstream equipment, the lag and stutter being intolerable for many, and CTD bugsare introduced just about as fast as they are squashed.
The is no question that the high commands are arrogant tools of an equally arrogant developer, CRS, and quite a few members of the HC's have an agenda that hardly includes making the game fun for anyone else. But control YOUR gameplay they will, and many of them are extreemly poor stewards of YOUR gaming dollar.
Does the game have merit? At times, yes. But substantially less than promised by CRS, who has still failed to implement goals as stated in the 2004 roadmap. There is not a single deadline they are capable of making; it's now sept 5 and they still have not gone gold with version of a game that has been in development since 1999.
I encourage anyone who wants to try it to do so, with the caveat that CRS is full of BS, and will say ANYTHING to keep you paying. ALWAYS consider the game you have right now to be all you will get, and NEVER pay attention to CRS's grandiose hallucinations of future development. Be prepared to be harrassed, modded down, and banned in the official forums for ANY negative commentary.
My advice is to NOT buy long term subscriptions, and for god's sake, dont pay up to one thousand dollars for "builders" subscriptions to a company that has already gone bankrupt once.
