I am trying to keep my expectations low for end-game. I am a bit bummed that we basically have end-game guides for all classes already, just because some people received access to it. Completely breaks the exploration aspect, trying to figure out what works and not. Instead we have these extreme aRPG geeks dissect every class and possible build, which leaves us with one meta build and rest are seen as useless.
I dunno.  This isn't a real MMO so if exploration and/or experimentation are your thing you can absolutely still do all that and never watch one video or read one guide.

Unless you're gunning for the top hardcore leveling records or some shit, there's really no reason to need to use a guide. Diablo-likes have never been hard games, and much of the fun is in the buildcraft. It's okay to not be optimal, and it may even be more entertaining.

It's ridiculously easy to respec.  I even did it in the middle of the Ashava batle in the playtest.  So I agree that the guides are not really a big deal.

I watch a few videos to try and get inspiration to make my own builds.

I have not played, so very hard to judge, this is the sort of thing even watching a video will not really reveal. But this does look like certain classes have not been brought up to scratch.

Scot has a look of total surprise on his face when he says, "maybe the game will be launching too early, first time that's ever happened in gaming this decade!"

After many delays in choosing options, my new PC won't get here for weeks now, but depending on my final decision D4 maybe an included freebie (standard edition, the tightwads). :D
I really recommend watching Force Gamings review video (see below). It really is one of the better reviews out there and he explains everything really well and where the issues and concerns lie with the game currently.

The game has quite a few, in my opinion, serious issues that make me avoid buying it for the time being. Especially at the price tag they are asking + Battle pass next month + MTX cash shop.

It's not a game you missing out on right now anyway. The first season won't start until late July (wouldn't surprise me if it gets delayed to August. If D3's seasons are any indication :P ).

So that gives them plenty of time to show us if the devs manage to address these issues.
And if not, well I have plenty other games to play ( FFXVI releasing later this month), not to mention Summer holiday as well.

The problem is that the game currently has serious balance issues with inconsistent difficulty spikes all over the place. An indication they ran out of time to properly balance the game.

Then add into the mix that classes like the Druid and Barbarian are terribly balanced as well and very weak during leveling.

I like a challenge, as long as it's fair and rewarding.
During the Open Beta weekend, the Druid was a frustrating exercise to play. Even when I over leveled it a bit, it still came up short against some bosses. Getting nearly one-shotted to death, as it just couldn't output DPS fast enough.

Then I rerolled a Necromancer and steamrolled through the entire first Act with zero challenge, murdering everything with ease. It's an even easier steamroll with the Sorcerer.
Another indication they ran out of time and the game is far from ready to be released. /shrug

Sounds like they've got some growing pains to work out. I'm glad I decided to join the patient gamers club on this one. It'll be great once it goes on discount, and maybe even drops an expansion.

Guess who fancied playing a Sorcerer just on the basis of thinking it looked good in a video? No doubt nerfed by the time I get to play. :)

Be careful about making class balance judgements based on a level 20 max which you can easilly reach in a few hours. Even some of my own observations, such as minions dying super quick to white mobs, can simply be because there is a node further down the tree that mitigates that.

I think some of them have used something like that on here, but adbots tend to be positive, encouraging...basically not like most of our first time posters come across as. :)

I think most people do a first post about something they are really passionate about so that means a lot of annoyed first posts. Don't repeat that, the adbots might catch on!

Haha, I got an email from Xbox thanking me for the preorder and that I could begin downloading it now. Already had it queued for preload last night.
Neat option to be able to queue the pre-load ahead of time.

Even more so, be careful about basing any kind of judgement on comments by players whose entire experience with a game is based on streamers. They don't own the game and make ridiculous claims about the proper times to balance a game and then draw far-fetched conclusions.

This is why studios get away with crap like this. Always people that keep defending them and making excuses!

If you watched the video I posted above, he finished the entire game, unlocked the highest world tier, played significant amount of endgame and tested out all the classes!
It's a really good and well balanced video, where he explains all the positives and negatives in a clear way.

I myself played both Open Beta weekends!
Every issue and concern I had with the game, he still brings those up in his review as not being addressed/fixed! Next to mentioning other concerns/problems the game has at higher levels and endgame.

But hey! you know what. I am sure ActiVision put every effort in making sure that the MTX store will be in perfect working order and completely bug free at launch day.

PS. When it comes to streamers. It's a complete Sorcerer fest, with Rogue coming 2nd place. The other 3 classes are being barely touched. It's hilarious, as apparently the devs went completely overboard in nerfing the Necromancer, as it's now ranked 5th place. While the sorcerer is untouched, since it's the favorite class within the dev team. /facepalm

Internal Q/A across the board has taken a goodly hit over the last decade, a lot of companies really don't do as much of that as they should any more.

Consequently a lot of game balance is forced into what happens when players get their hands on the title(s). There's always been adjustments to make when that's happened, but this is also where you have more issues with other launch titles beyond just game balance.

Despite my personal laundry list of snags and annoyances, this is probably the smoothest game launch and experience I've seen in quite a while.

Level 39 sorc. Got my riding skill and trusty steed. Having tons of fun.

I focused on the main story not really rushing it, watching all cutscene and enjoying it but I did skip side quests since the riding is part of that main quest line and unlocks at the very beginning of Act 4. Got it at level 37 FYI.

I've stopped following the main quest for now and I'm back in the second zone getting enough renown to unlock the 2 skill points and the extra potion each zone gives you. I'm going to keep doing that until I catch up to the zone I need to be in for Act IV. Not bothering with the Altar of Lilith grind for now - I'll save that for much later.

The story really is top-notch (and gruesome :)) IMO, better than Blizard has ever done in any of their games.

Legendary drops are not nearly as rare as I thought they would be. I'm fully decked out in legendaries currently except for my weapon at level 39 and only two of those are aspects from dungeons.

I was even using a legendary staff for a while because it was an awesome drop for my build with a 60% chance to have my chain lightning chain 2 additional times. But I got a much higher damage weapon drop so now it's sitting in my stash waiting for a level 45+ 2HD weapon worthy of imprinting.

    Did I mention I'm having a blast?

Better than WC3? That would be seriously high praise.

It's been decades since I played WC3 but yes. There is a lot of ambiguity in this story and very little of it is black or white. That starts with Lilith and Innarius and right on through with Lorath. other Horadrin. etc.

Characters just have depth and are suitably conflicted given the mess that Sanctuary is in. Even the worst bad guys have their good moments and express doubt. One of the Prime Evils you meet fairly early has its own agenda tied to the main story but its own angle that can help you.

Game is prolly good (had fun on the OB ) but gonna wait for discount , that will come down the road (blizz dropped the price of Dragonflight 2-3 months into the expansion?) so i guess DIV will drop price after summer maybe.

I would never wait for a discount, that's like chasing a rainbow, how do you decide how much must the price go down? But your time scale of after Summer is certainly when I think they will have brushed up any polish issues. Overall posters say its a solid launch so it is hard to see how it could take long than three or four months to be gleaming.

Would it not be fair to say there was more competition for this type of game these days though? So I would expect something sooner than two years certainly.

As someone who follows, and plays, the ARPG genre religiously I can safely say D4 has no equivalent that released in the last five years, let alone a AAA one.
