Game is prolly good (had fun on the OB ) but gonna wait for discount , that will come down the road (blizz dropped the price of Dragonflight 2-3 months into the expansion?) so i guess DIV will drop price after summer maybe.
D3 was over 2 years before it saw a discount , I don't expect anything else from D4 . Just saying.
Would it not be fair to say there was more competition for this type of game these days though? So I would expect something sooner than two years certainly.
Especially D3 release around the time that they did the Diablo mobile april fools release.....and we know how that eventually went. Different times and a different Blizzard, so expect a discount by December imo. Plus people are hyping things up before season 1 has even started, so I'd temper my expectations in thinking this is the 'best diablo ever' until they have established things a bit, like post content rollout and its longevity. Its good people are enjoying it now though. I'm guilty of going back to game's I dont care much for whenever a new expansion launches just because of all the people and discovering stuff that first month or so.

It's not something I'm guessing at , D4 will NOT go on sale inside 2 years , you will see Cosmetic/Store sales over the summer and a Xmas event with Store sale again in December.
Didn't D2 remaster go on sale rather quickly? We're not really in the same game market we were about 10 years ago when D3 launched.
It's market-driven but game-by-game. There's no reason to discount if sales are good at the regular price. Competition with other similar games wouldn't influence that especially since Diablo's biggest competitor by popularity is POE and that's a F2P game.
The only things IMO that could produce discounts in the next 12 months are poor sales or better than expected premium battle pass and cash shop revenue.
The first case is for obvious reasons and the second one is just to lower the entry barrier to get more players spending on the live service part.
We'll see.

D4 is heavily monetized post purchase with a battle pass and MTX, and so I expect a sale by XMAS. Just as they did with Dragonflight to get people in and subbing.

Remember that DIV has a "mmo-esque" system , world bosses alone are impossible to beat and there are events around the world for multiplayer and there are prolly more things for endgame that "need" more bodies , maybe once u are at lvl 100 max paragon...but only HC fans will play that much. Ppl will beat the game , try some endgame farm some gear and quit for another games , or summer.
DIV is way different than any other diablo before because u need other players for some content, so once the playerbase goes down i can see a discount , for the players that were on the fence at the release.

The only thing you need other players for is World Bosses and that is only because they have a reset timer. They have already been soloed but you need some high DPS to beat that timer.
Everything else is designed for solo.
Can people do things grouped much easier? Of course and it's exactly like Diablo 3's 4-man GRs that way. Nightmare dungeons here are also easier in a group and easier still if the group plays together regularly with good builds that synergize.
If you group, you're going to get more and better drops and you can also be carried by a friend very easily.
Carries and power leveling are still very much a thing in D3 every season and I expect more of the same here eventually.
I'm level 52, did the Capstone dungeon to unlock Nightmare (Tier 3) solo, and the only "grouping" I've done is dropped into a few world boss events if I happened to be near them since the countdown timer for the start of those are shown on the world map.
Once you're there the game groups you by just creating as many instances as they need to keep it under 12 players. You can then join groups of 4 if you want but not many bother unless they already happen to be grouped with a friend or 2.

Any of you going for the first 1000 thing to get your name on a statue in game?
Nope. Life and sleep is important.
I have a friend working on it, but frankly, i'm starting to wonder how long it'll actually take just to gather and authorize 50 level 100 HC characters; let alone 1,000.
I honestly feel like there was a much better event idea they could have gone with; like... i don't know, something else.
Because i've heard tales already of hardcore Diablo players opting out of the race because of stupid shit outside of their own control; server disconnections, and even power outages in their area; because ANY type of disconnect means a automatic-death for some reason.
Which makes this race less about skill and perseverance, and more about rng and just dumbass luck, all to have a character name on a statue that'll like get carted off to a storage room for noone to see.
I personally love Diablo 4 and i'm having a lot of fun, but Blizzard upper-management are fucking morons sometimes.

It is the nature of that change which makes me think it is tricky to come to solid conclusions about price drops. But anyway, I would never recommend or not recommend players hold back for a price drop, that's down to the individual's wallet.
The last I heard they still plan on having full paid expansions in addition to the battle pass and random MTX outside of the battle pass. If that's still the case then the seasons will add systems like POE does and expansions would expand the story and world(which POE does for free).
Game is prolly good (had fun on the OB ) but gonna wait for discount , that will come down the road (blizz dropped the price of Dragonflight 2-3 months into the expansion?) so i guess DIV will drop price after summer maybe.

Blizzard has also changed their pricing strategy it seems. They are starting to embrace the Ubisoft method of lowering prices to get that second big wave of sales. And as I said, they know most of their income for D4 will come after the box sales in the form of MTX and Battle Passes.
If it doesn't go on sale I don't think the people waiting for one will cave. As you say, there is lots of competition and D4 really isn't a title that evolves the genre in any way. Maybe after a couple of years of seasonal content, but that's unlikely. They have clearly taken a very safe approach, kind of like what JJ Abrams did with the Force Awakens.
So far as a Bliz Sorceress, the progression is getting more fun the more i play, but it is very challenging, even on WT1, which is 'supposed' to be the casual mode; but honestly it doesn't feel that way as the gear doesn't scale well with the leveling.
From my perspective, two things really need more work:
1. Gear scaling; it sucks currently, like it reaaaaaallly sucks.
2. Rebalance the characters; some are really broken at the moment, while others flatout have to lean on certain skill builds to make up for the hard nerfs.
The nerfs were absolutely premature and i bet they were done to keep a competitive foot(more like a cinder-block) on the level-to-100 race.
If they do not walkback the nerfs after the race is over, i'd be really surprised; because they were unnecessary considering certain characters were nerfed already from the Beta build to Live (aka the server slam build)
EDIT:
Also i will say Hardcore is... not fun at all right now; granted i lost my HC character to my own failings (thought i could fight the Butcher undergeared), but the server issues make hardcore really miserable.

One small feature I like a lot is the "Priority" quest category. Quests can generally be done in whatever order suits your fancy. There is a lot of "open world" freedom in this while still providing a guided direction. The priority quests let you know this will unlock some key aspect to your character which will let you play more effectively.
There are some interesting, non-obvious, build synergies that opens up in the leveling chain for the Sorcerer in the 20s and 30s. I like some ideas I've read on Maxroll. A lot of the popular site build guides don't seem to exploit the passive synergies as well as I'd expect. They're very simple one-dimensional builds with very little ARPG min-max thought put into them and I didn't find them helpful. Maxroll has some thought put into them.
Game is prolly good (had fun on the OB ) but gonna wait for discount , that will come down the road (blizz dropped the price of Dragonflight 2-3 months into the expansion?) so i guess DIV will drop price after summer maybe.

As someone who follows, and plays, the ARPG genre religiously I can safely say D4 has no equivalent that released in the last five years, let alone a AAA one.
/Cheers, Lahnmir
This is true. There isn't another MMOARPG like this, especially AAA quality. My beloved WH40K Inquisitor has no fear of being bumped as my favorite single player ARPG as D4 is a completely different kind of experience.
The priority quests let you know this will unlock some key aspect to your character which will let you play more effectively.
I also like that the priority quest for upgrading your health potion effectiveness has an animated up-arrow right next to the potion count icon as an extra reminder to do it.
Very appropriate since that particular upgrade is a huge survival priority that bumps up the amount of the instant component of the heal by very chunky amounts each time it's upgraded.

The game is good, much better than Diablo III. But it's WAY too expensive, even the basic version.
That's my review for now.
I wish everything was cheaper except for the things I'm selling

The fact I'm playing and intend to play more is probably testament enough that I enjoy the core of the game at least.
Definitely a lot of things I find questionable or dislike about the design from features taken away, elements that seem to exist for the sake of having progression even if they make minimal sense for progression, the odd blend of automated elements and non-automated elements, and even plot points that still bother me when stumbling into a rehash or retcon.
But still playing, and there are fun elements to the gameplay that is there.

I'm in a similar situation. Overall, I like it a lot, but do have a laundry list of criticisms and wtfs. Like, why do I have to store gems in my locker and then have to pull them out to craft again. Why in mother effing hell do they take up inventory slots. It's maddening coming off of a much better management system in D3. It feels like one of those forced designs that make the developers feel clever, but most people end up hating with a passion.
Chat is another. Late last night I noticed I got a whisper from a friend. I think it must have been sent a day or two before, but I didn't notice (I'm on console) and figuring out how to open chat was non-intuitive.
I feel like with a lot of things they wanted to "go back to their roots" and get that experience, but in many cases it feels forced.

That whisper was from me when I got a system message that you had unlocked some achievement just as I unlocked Stronghold Hero from having completed a pile of strongholds. I messaged you to brag that mine was better
But yeah the chat sucks as currently implemented.
Gems actually work just like in D3 though. When you go to the gem merchant to improve the quality of gems you don't need to have them in your inventory. The merchant has access to your stash and will pull them from there to combine them. The resulting improved gem does go into your inventory and you have to walk those back to your stash to store them, This is exactly the way it works in D3 except there everything is 2 steps away.
Pro-tip though: don't bother improving too many gems as the process is rather gold-expensive and you will get higher-level gems as drops as you level up. This is also just like D3.

When I went to the gem merchant that didn't happen. I'll go test check it out again to make sure I wasn't seeing it wrong. This was to complete the quest to combine a gem. I did a generic useful gem and slotted it in my helmet.
The cost for combining gems is even steeper than D3, especially given how hard it is to collect gold at lower levels.
The cost for combining gems is even steeper than D3, especially given how hard it is to collect gold at lower levels.
It does get better. At level 53 I have all 4 (not nearly enough for a pack rat like me who plays all classes) stash tabs bought and have 4.5 mil gold.
In D3, when I got to level 70 and started getting the end-game gems I would automatically just vendor all of my lower-level gems to make room in the inventory. Not worth upgrading there and like you say, even worse here.
My drops are almost all diamond-shaped gems now. I'll just clutter my stash with them for now for possible use but I'm sure I'll just vendor most of them eventually when I get end-game gems.
