Except if you bought either one of those and managed to keep it in good shape you could turn around and sell it pretty easily for as much as you paid for it. Maybe more depending on how exclusive it was. The watch in particular. Star Citizen ships? Not so much. Especially once the game launches and these assets are available for sale in game the real life monetary value of them will plummet.

My question is. Why is it so expensive? Just exclusivity tax or does this ship give like more "power level" than any other?

Also. The game is not out yet? I thought it was released a few years ago. I feel like I will die of old age and still read news about Star Citizen development.

It's not one ship but a package or fleet of ships.  It's one of those packages designed for rich whales that want to help fund the game some more but get something in return for giving lots of cash.

It's not expensive at all.  It's actually a GREAT value.  Simply add up the costs of all the other ships, vehicles and extras that you get.  Look.  Its not for everyone.  If you can't afford this even when it's on such a discount then Crowdfunding is probably not for you.

Now I'm back to trying to figure out which ships to fly tonight because I have so many to choose from.  They should really give us less ships for this price so that it's easier to decide what to fly each day.

Rolex isn't even the most expensive luxury watch on the market either. In fact they are really like the Timex of luxury watches even at 5k to 50k.

Look at Jacob and Co or Audemars Piguet; those get into the 500k to millions+. It's like we live in a world to see what the most expensive of something one can make that people will buy.

I would say check Chris Roberts wrist as I'm sure he is wearing some of that backer money xD I mean a good luxury watch is a great investment long term so it's probably the best he's ever made with backer money, lmao.

Or Christian Lecroix. Nothing says conspicuous consumption like that designer.

That doesn't make it right or acceptable though. Conspicuous consumption doesn't have to make sense. In fact, it's irrational to the core, so trying to explain it rationally sort of fizzles because there isn't a sensible justification for it. Rich people love to flex their money and poor people love the capitalist fantasy that they too can become Elon or Bezos.

Exactly.  Someone just paid 10k for a single night while I have hundreds of ships and vehicles that I can enjoy for in all likelihood the rest of my life.  It's a fantastic investment.

How about one of you brainiacs explain the scam, please. I playtest this project, they are doing some amazing work, really...and I have spent $60 bux 4 years ago. When I signed on, I knew it was an alpha with no real target date, hell I could only participate in the last 2 years because my rig, and optimization didn't seem like a priority. I am personally thankful for the whales, lol....they are obviously a large chunk in the reasons why this project continues to move forward. No, you don't have to spend more then what would be a "released" game would cost you, and no you don't even have to invest at all......but explain the scam, because a lot of you have just arranged buzzwords and talking points focused around this projects controversy.

The 'scam' was painstakingly displayed over years and years of CIG videos and marketing releases.  Poor decisions were repeatedly trumpeted as cleverness.  Promises made, delayed, broken, forsaken.  The most expensive game development ever.  Twelve years in the making.  A self proclaimed genius game designer who didn't recognize the simplest elements of development.  The same genius who has never learned from his mistakes. 'Just wait til next year!'

Though I really think it's less of a scam and more of a boondoggle.  They want to make a great space game, they just have a narcissistic micromanager at the helm, who can't manage to produce a game, even with over 3/4 of a billion dollars invested.  They can't even manage one third of a promised single player game.

But damn, the marketing is sure exceptional.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

It's hilarious to see that they don't even realize that the game never launching is what is keeping it afloat right now.

If you have to ask you just aren't Star Citizen material.

I remember first hearing of it in my 20s, fresh out of college, entering the job market...

I hope I won't be too old to play it in my twilight years when it releases.

Sarcasm aside, wasn't there a guy who spent over 100k on black desert?

One could waggle their fingers at him (and others like him) but all they're going to think is "ok, duly noted."

Maybe in retrospect they might realize it was kind of foolish but I suspect they will just spend on something else equally as indulgent.

Wasn't there some guy that spent like 100k or so in diablo immortal to get more POWA and ended pushing himself into a class of his own so much that he couldn't fight anyone in the pvp modes cause the game couldn't find anyone in his power lvl?

I mean as much as anyone wants to hate on Star Citizen for how its being milked and drawn out and mismanaged etc etc (insert all complaints here) the fact is no one can say it is a scam as of now and be factual.

SC is still milking it yes but they are also still working on the game, they are still updating they game, they have largely made their progress available to be tried and the game to be played in its current pre release state so as such no one can truthfully claim...scam.

Whether anyone likes how SC is doing things no one can say what they are trying to do is easy or really has been done by anyone else on the scope they are trying to do it AND they ARE making progress.

This is a far cry from Jeremy Walsh and Chronicles of Elyria or that other game that failed that allowed you to buy mansions and other houses for large sums of cash...argh was Revival from Illfonic...lol

An argument could be made that the only difference is in the effectiveness of the Marketing. With $600,000,000 I am pretty sure that even Walsh could have made "progress" over the last decade similar to what Roberts has made.

Thing is, as much as players have expressed their concern about the size of this P2W package does anyone think there won't be a bigger one before launch? Of course there will be.
