Fact is they milked the suckers for ten years of dev salaries and when they realized the well had run dry they rushed this crap to alpha release to bleed just a few more dollars out. Exactly how do they plan on paying future development with no month sub? Only three ways it goes implement a monthly sub, they go to a dlc model, or the game just dies. I am leaning toward the last as this thing has had no direction since Brad died.
First, welcome to the forums!
Secondly… is this true that now they are hiding the plan for monetization by making people think it’s B2P?
Didn’t some of their pledge tiers include x months subscription time?
The video on Steam says that the product is single purchase, backing it gave you the first month free in the beginning but the tier rewards have shifted so much I can't even state for certain if or when they changed that. When the question was brought up in the Steam forums, the thread was deleted and the OP was banned. People bringing the video up have also been banned. They should be de-platformed but it'll only happen if enough people report them most likely.
I suspect it’s not bringing it up but how they bring it up that gets them banned.
nothing ever changes.
I can tell you for a fact that it's not, blaming people for this company's practices sure isn't a good look after seeing how they've schemed throughout the years.

I just looked and the old packages did come with subscriptions. Like 3 months, 6 month, 1 year or even lifetime.
So I bought this over the weekend, installed it on Linux Mint, everything worked when logging in but even at character select I started noticing things like you can’t rotate the character, dialog menus and UI elements are simple wire frames, etc.
I had previously very casually read some articles about the game but did not realize it was in development for such a long time.
I understand it is very tough for small developers but the UI and usability of the program were atrocious - even if the game is thematically styled after EQ, this does not excuse the fact that we have had twenty years of experience building better and more user-friendly applications.
It would be possible to somehow ignore the graphics quality as a stylistic choice, but combined with janky movement, bad animations, and bad UI, it indicates to me that the reason these elements are so bad is due to incompetence, not artistic vision.
There are many small developers that have been able to manage this, but at the end of the day I realized even Darkfall looked better and that was one massive dumpster fire. Refunded the game - I’m too old now to waste time on half-baked products.

The Steam version probably is B2P. If they'd add mandatory subscription later on, in EU that would open the game's seller (Steam) to lawsuits, and Steam is usually customer friendly enough/lawsuit averse enough that they're unlikely to risk themselves by allowing the developers to pull tricks like that.
Pantheon can still add cash shop, optional subscription, DLC, etc.
If this game gets a high review rating that confirms that this site is biased and acts on paid favorable reviews.
LOL. Pantheon is great, and the EQ 2 Everyone wanted to play back when, but there are plenty of "M" key pacifiers out there for your like.
Play Pantheon; it's not perfect, but it's getting there.
You, however, go play the game you Want to exist, but constantly criticize that it doesn't, it exists; but you're already bored of it because of the 'M' key Pacifier.
But whine for the M key.
Pantheon is getting there folks, and I'm not backing down because it's the EQ2 us old hats wanted. Period.

Repeat "It's the EQ2 we were looking for the whole time!" until it dies just like the real EQ2.
what a polarizing game, I know we live in time when facts are ignored and fantasy becomes fact, but damn this thread almost takes it all to another level havnt seen this much uneducated opinion and lies being posted as fact since the last SWG thread
the game is what it is...from what I read on steam or in any article these guys are not trying to portray the game as near finished and are pretty clear on what you are paying for, thats not a cash grab, like it or dont like it but the posting of opinions that have no basis in reality everwehere over anything is getting old and not likely to change anytime soon but I would love to find a subject where reality is real and not some twilight zone fantasy twisted to fit an agenda

I think that’s about right. I played around with it and enjoyed the time I put in.
The graphics/animations are on par with an indy project. There were a few people looking for groups and the server I chose was crowded so I wonder if they found that group or not.
Suppose I’m wondering how much content there is to support those two years?
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
How much is this an MMORPG?
I mean in terms of gameworld.
Is it huge and immersive, with lots of riddles and mysteries?
Does it feel like an oldschool mmorpg where you can do a lot (also non combat related) and where the world feels huge and dangerous.
Or is it like newer games where you just port and run to the quest location within 2 minutes and ignore all mobs because they are not real threat? (E.g.I ran with a level 1 character from one end diagonally to the other end of the map without dying in 12 minutes in T&L)
Also the whole Systems?
More oldschool or packed with 5 bazillion currencies and Systems like all asia games or e.g. New World (hate this gypsum shit)
It is my firm opinion that it's never a good idea to show an alpha build to the public.
I somewhat understand why they did it in this case, to quell any thoughts that they might finally give up on it, but I still think it was a bad idea to let people see a product in this state.
That's one of the problems with crowdfunding games. Your publisher is also your player base. Instead of having to manage expectations with one or maybe a small group of executives that understand the industry, you have however many thousands of armchair experts telling you what you need to do. If you don't produce some sort of product they do annoying things like file class action lawsuits. Good times. No way would I ever be a part of some crowdfunded MMO effort. The chance of it being anything but a black spot on your resume is small.

Oh, only 10 years? Barely a blink in gaming history. The public's finally realizing this game is a steaming pile of trash and actually speaking up? How dare they! Such impatience! Honestly, they should give it another solid decade—maybe even two—before forming any opinions. Who needs standards anyway?

Secondly… is this true that now they are hiding the plan for monetization by making people think it’s B2P?
Didn’t some of their pledge tiers include x months subscription time?
The Steam version probably is B2P. If they'd add mandatory subscription later on, in EU that would open the game's seller (Steam) to lawsuits, and Steam is usually customer friendly enough/lawsuit averse enough that they're unlikely to risk themselves by allowing the developers to pull tricks like that.
Pantheon can still add cash shop, optional subscription, DLC, etc.
The game is buy to play, for now, according to their Steam page. This is from their Early Access statement on the Steam Store page.
Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access? “Pantheon is a newcomer to the genre, but possesses old-school roots, originally, we contemplated on following a sub model, but are still evaluating our options and will be using the Early Access phase to open that dialogue with players. For now, Early Access will have a fixed box price, the same for the 1.0 release, with no additional costs. We will update the community in case this changes.”
If they claim it could change in the future, do you think that would change whether they would be in violation? They certainly have to be aware of EU regulations concerning this.
We have a real clash between classic and modern with posters here, I don't think either is the best way to make a MMORPG. There are many ways you can take a hybrid approach, from having no corpse runs to having no loot boxes.
Interesting take. I see it as people with standards debating people who seemingly lack them.
Well can you tell us what standards you are talking about? Presumably not difficulty or the importance of grouping? Perhaps graphics and the housing? I played EQ2 for years (but not EQ) myself and it was a good game.
This is a different take, made with less money and that shows. Personally the graphics alone might mean it is not for me, undecided as yet, but we can't expect CF MMOs to live up to AAA values if that's the standards you are talking about. When it comes to housing etc, all that stuff could be added in later I really don't see an issue there.
I'm talking about the kinds of standards I expect whenever purchasing a game, and especially for Early Access titles.
Standards are subjective. Some people consider any sort of online game an MMORPG with gacha, cash shops, and loot crates to buy one's way through the game acceptable. Some people think auto-play combat and quest completion in MMORPGs is great.
I don't care if people play those, or this game for that matter. Their time and money. But when they start making wild claims and taking shots at classic games with proven accomplishments, then people will clap back at that. I can't be the only one thinking this cobbled together game has a long way to go before it can claim to be better than Vanguard or EQ2.
I'm just glad to see them actually showing what they've done after all these years, whether it's good or not. Chronicles of Elyria never even got that far.

"Is this the same as pre-purchasing a game?
No. Early Access is a full purchase of a playable game. By purchasing, you gain immediate access to download and play the game in its current form and as it evolves. You keep access to the game, even if the game later moves from Early Access into fully released."
They may change monetization some way in the future, but they must keep the base game accessible for free to those who've purchased through Steam's early access program or they risk lawsuits.

So, it's in alpha. See if it launches and then you can see for yourself.
Having said that, I went out to kill mobs and was fighting some sort of "thing" when all of a sudden a scorpion looking thing came at me. I ran but it followed for a bit and I was dead.
"Ok" Scorpions are aggro. Great.
So I then start kiling mobs keeping this in mind. Until I see two other mobs. Now, up until this point they were pretty easy. But "note to self" if I attack one of the same mob, at least those mobs, they come at me because they are social.
So yeah, the world is dangerous at low levels. Can't tell you anything about higher levels yet.

They'll probably just add some sort of voluntary patron sub which provides access to something like unlimited crafting bag and perhaps some cash shop currency as other games have done in recent years.
