In Greece there is a chain of internet cafes called Bits & Bytes. They use a hacked Lineage 2 server and thousands play in this server. There are much more greeks playing in this hacked server than the official servers. Of course the server provides something like x5 xp and money. Its really impressive because all the net cafes in greece are packed with ppl playing on this server. There are even ppl from abroad playing on these servers. These guys are playing still Chronicle 1!!!!!! I think they just found a way to setup a C3 server and many of them are moving there.
So in Greece the most popular MMORPGs are WoW and private Lineage 2.

Ragnarok Online definetly was the most popular game in the world at one point and probably holds the record but it isnt anymore; its popularity is decreasing alot every month, same with the Lineages. I would guess the game population numbers worldwide, not just in North American is something like this.
Worlds of Warcraft
Lineage 2
Ragnarok Online
Lineage
MU Online
If you are wondering cause some of these games are really unpopular in the US, These games boast millions of subscribers and almost a million concurrent users on at the same time each.

I guess, it's EVE Online 'cuz I've seen it's on the top list of this site..Haven't play it yet but I'll give this a try too.. And I think, Guild Wars and WOW have lots of people too..
Originally posted by TheWarc Actually the chinese mmorpg Yulgang has 9 million players.. beat that World of warcraft..
Actually, Yulgang is Korean. http://www.yulgang.com is the official site. It just has service in other countries, such as China. Some Korean MMO's are more popular in other countries than in Korea itself. Yulgang lost its popularity within Korea, itself, after it got launched. It was popular when it was in open-beta roughly around Gersang, RF, and Hero Online's time. The most popular ones within Korea right now are WoW ($$), KartRider (free), Lineage II ($$), Mabinogi (free), and the 2 or 3 latest games to enter into the open/closed beta phases (because they're free to play). Not too far behind are ones like Ragnarok and Lineage 1. (This is in Korea.)

WoW and Lineage are games that every noob, kid and generally clueless person can pick it up from a Sainsbury's and start playing. Thats definately one of the reasons these games suck...
lol?
Other than being completly away from the subject matter of this post, what is your motivation?
I am gathering that you enjoy playing games that are difficult? More than just being dificult you want them to be confusing?
You should be a marketing exec or maybe even a R&D director!
Moron1:"Lets make this so confusing and hard that we won't sell anything" Moron2:"Great idea! Let me grab my crack pipe real quick." huflux2004:"no worries, I have a spare crack pipe right here!"

Hmm let's see, about 2 million of those are PC Bang users as well, probably even more.
Why are there 4 pages for a topic that was answered on page 1! (not that I'm helping things along anyway by posting..)
Anyway, I would consider Eve's universe to be the most populated. However, if you're looking at number of subscriptions it's definately a korean game (Yulgang, L1/2?). If you're looking at number of unique, personally held account subscriptions then it's probably WoW.

Get your facts right before you post. nothing but bots, gold sellers? yeah right. those 1,5 million Lineage 2 players are all bots abd gold sellers. and no, korean MMO's don't suck. Also, I don't think yulgang online is important enough to necro a year old thread.
I dotn listen to what you say either, we all know who you are gameloading any negativity towards any korean mmorpg you always tell them they are wrong and talk about some BS made up things about the game to make it look like god, i played L2, it sucks, move on.

made up? what exactly did I make up, or are you talking out of your neck again? Oh you played L2, and your opinion = fact..oh no wait, it isn't. move on. and you did just listen (?) to what I just said, or else you couldn't reply to it. nice going.
Well as for Lin2 and the mmo chart, it has also taken into account all the sweat shops that buy multiple accounts to farm,be it botting or player controlled...and man that's a lot of accounts

And you think WoW, EQ2, DAOC, heck, even Auto assault are fully farmer free? those problems arise in any mmorpg. Also, there are actually MUCH less farmers on the asian servers (which is where most players are). because hardcore gameplay is considered normal there.

Nope dont think that at all,Someone was referring to Lin2 at the top of subscibers....so all in all you have to be realistic about it.And you said asian mmo's have much less farmers,I would like to see a link of where you got this information, otherwise your just blowing smoke.

I never said asian MMO's have much less farmers, I said that the asian servers of Lineage 2 have much less farmers.just like the Lineage 2 is on top of the farmer list, there is no link to back it up, and all I really have is my own experience on the korean Lineage 2 servers ( I played the korean version for a while, as updates came in much faster). and I noticed a lot less bots there then on the US/EU version of the game.

Lineage 2 may have been the top MMO a year ago, but not now. This thread was necroed from last year.

Is that official info? I dont think so...
um there is a reason the chart on MMOchart says excluding ragnarok
RO has far more subscribers then any MMO but then again most are bots or AFK merchants so

FFXI I believe has the next highest population. That or Lineage2. Not 100% sure.

You all realize that before today, the last post was October 4, 2005!
But if you are just celebrating this thread's one year anniversary, but all means, carry on
