Im not too concerned at all seeings that it was an official release of a ship date Dec 9th, instead of rumors or just someone posting on a board.

Why cant companies take a more pessimistic view?  They always come up with release dates then push them back over and over disappointing the people who are following the game.  I think it would be nicer if they came out with much more conservative release dates then surprised us with pleasant announcements of early releases.  image

They would be even wiser to push it back further, even dec 9th doesn't give them enough time.

Let's say I gave you a 1 million piece puzzle. And said "How long do you think it will take to solve this puzzle?" You want to be conservative, you know you have 8 hours a day to work on it, it took you 1 month to complete a 100,000 piece puzzle. So you think a year is good. It'll give you 2 extra months.

You dog eats a few peices, the power goes out, and a earthquake hits. It's so hard to predict the things that will happen during that time.

10 months rolls around and your no where near complete. So you can push the product live with allot holes left in it, sell it as a likely piece puzzle, or push the deadline back.

Software takes as long as it takes. Little you can do to speed that up. It's extremely complicated and hard to predict.

All the while your working on your game, your competition is also making a game. Six months in and you may have to redo a large piece of the game because your competition just did the same thing you where doing. If you want to stand out your now going to have to it better.

Blizzard does it best with never really saying anything you can hold them to. "We have not yet announced a release date for World of Warcraft" They won't until very close to being released.

The fact the Hz is only pushing back a few weeks, says it's probably something to do with distribution than development.

I agree with most of what your saying Clever_Glove, making a mmorpg is a very complicated thing, but I also think companies pick optimistic release dates to begin building hype and such.

I still think they could come up with much more conservative views (add 6 to 10 months to when they think its going to be done) and people would just be delighted if it came out 3 or 4 months early.

As true as what your saying is, I think they are picking pessimistic release dates. No matter how much time you think it takes you double/triple/quadruple it and it still won't be enough.

It would be funny to see what the internal release dates where.  Probably most are now over a year of what was originally expected.

Blizzard plays it the only way you can. "It's done when we say it is" releasing any date is a mistake. It can't be met. There is no use trying.

I don't think they SHOULD give a release date untill beta stage is well under way. To PROJECT a game comming out in a year is pretty silly...

    Halo 2 - 4/1/2004

Ooooooh wowwww. I'll have to make sure to plan my budget to buy that game in... errm...6... months....?

Building up hype is ok, but so damned early... the hype burns out and people get frustrated rather than hopeful about a game... especially when there's a 6 mo. release date, a few months go by and it's bumped back further.

And yeah 6 months isn't terribly long of a wait... but I'm not really thinking about EASTER right now...

The funny thing is there was never an official Nov. 11 date. That was just what places like EBGames had up...and even then there were other dates out there. Even when the developers shared that they were on target of a november launch they never said a date...AND further, Atari always said fall and to my knowledge Dec. 9th is still fall...

DOesn't bother me...make the game even better!! I willl still be there having fun!!
